At twenty-three, Princess Isabella must settle down for the sake of her kingdom. Caught up in a secret affair with her lady-in-waiting, Hannah, the princess knows it can only last for so long.
When Prince Alexander arrives to court her, he confides that his father is on his death bed, and he will be crowned king soon. Isabella hastily agrees to the proposal, desiring to be queen, knowing little about her soon to be husband.
Murder, secrets, and lies combine with menage, spanking, and erotic encounters in this steamy medieval romance.

Although BURNING DESIRE is her debut romantic erotica novel, it is not her first published book. She has been published professionally since 2013.
I read a review for this book on a book blog and it sounded fun and original and decided to give it a try. I bought it with some amazon gift card money I had left and started reading it almost right afterwards. While I like the concept and did enjoy this book I also felt like it had potential for more. I didn't realize at first that it was a short story and in my opinion it could've easily been a full length novel as there were so much places that missed depth or the author could've elaborated more on.
The first 30% felt really rushed, things happened, but there was no explanation, no details, just rushing forward with the plot and it was hard to get my footing in the story and like the characters when it felt so rushed. After the first 30% or so it slowed down and I was grateful for that and could get a better feel for the book and enjoy it more.
Palace Secrets starts with princess Isabella, she is secretly in love with her lady-in-waiting. Then one day a prince comes to her castle and asks her to marry him. She doesn't hesitate and says yes and they marry the same evening, which all seemed a bit weird and rushed to me. Don't they need to prep for a wedding and announce it and invite guests? And it felt weird how Isabella accepted his proposal so fast and then later tells prince Alexander that she scared all the other people away who were potential husbands, but he didn't even try and convince her to marry him as she so easily agreed. And then they have the wedding on the same evening and she already feels herself falling in love? It just felt like too much, too soon. And especially with how she also claims to be in love with Hannah, it felt like she agreed to easily to everything Alexander wanted. I expected a bit more drama around this and a bit more conflict with how she was in love with Hannah, but had to be with Alexander for their kingdoms/ political reasons.
Then some conflict follows, Isabella witnesses something she shouldn't have, but only towards the end finds the courage to ask about it. On the one hand it was something horrible and I didn't get why she didn't run faster and on the other hand I felt like she didn't have all the pieces and should've asked for those. Then there is some conflict concerning the side characters and Hannah and another too quick love and it just all felt a bit off. Although it was fun seeing it all play out and see how it got resolved and one of the twists even surprised me.
While I did enjoy the story I didn't feel like I was completely in it, the story just seemed a bit off and I had a hard time connecting with the characters as I felt like there wasn't enough time to get to know them. I also wasn't really sure what to think about Isabella, there were a few scenes where she just annoyed me and where I wish she asked for me. She was complaining she didn't know her way around the castle or knew about the politics, but never outright asked Alexander. Then there is this female guard plot line that never got resolved and the rebel plot line. It get's set up and then we never learn more about it. And then book ends on a hopeful note, which I liked, but it leaves so many plot lines unresolved.
While this book is an erotic historical romance, it was pretty mild on both those fronts. There is quite some focus on the romance and relationships, but there are only a few sex scenes and they involve some mild spanking. There are F/F, M/F and M/F/F sex scenes, but the M/F/F only comes into play towards the very end of the book. I had expected this to come into play earlier. Then this book is supposed to be a historical book and takes place somewhere in the past, but I had no clue when or where and it just felt like the author picked the historical setting so she could make them a prince and princes. There was no world building and no information about the historical setting or politics and that disappointed me. I also had no clue whether this took place in the real world or a fantasy historical setting as there were so little details both seemed possible. There is talk about rebels, but with so little understanding of the countries and politics, it just felt like a plot line to put some suspense or fear into the plot.
To conclude: overall I did enjoy this book, but it had potential for so much more. There were some great concepts, like the historical setting and how the princess is in love with her lady and waiting and has to marry a prince. But it never get fully explored or put to use, it felt like the story could use some more meat, some more elaboration. Just more of everything. There are plot lines that are set up and never resolved, then some plot lines that feel rushed or develop too fast. It was hard to connect to the characters and there wasn't enough focus on the historical setting, the politics and the how or why. So while it had potential, it fel a bit flat. It was still an enjoyable read and if you are looking for a short fun read with an interesting concept I would recommend it. For me I was just hoping for more and felt like it didn't live up to it's potential beside being enjoyable.
Palace Secrets is a quick moving story that shows the kink even Queens can enjoy. As the synopsis says, Isabella marries Alexander, but is still in love with Hannah. In medieval times, a Queen could never have a lover, let alone a mistress. Openness about ones sexuality was not allowed and punishable by death specially in countries where religion played a huge part.
There are certain people in this story that know about Isabella and Hannahs affair, which stokes the fire. Some of the people try to protect the girls while others want to humiliate them and use their relationship to further themselves. Unfortunately for said jerks, Alexander isn't all that close minded, in fact he's pretty much okay with anything as long as is makes Isabella happy.
There are a few twists and turns in this story, along with some drama and mystery which adds a nice layer of story to it. Even though this book is categorized as erotica, there is a story that fills out the pages so it's not entirely just sex, sex, sex. I think there's actually about four sex scenes which isn't a whole lot. All scenes are tastefully done, there's nothing outrageous or flat out weird brought up. As for the BDMS element it's incredibly light and not a big deal to be honest.
In the beginning, it does feel like it was a bit of a stop-starter with the writing but it quickly starts to flow a lot easier after a few pages. The language also feels like for the most part it would fit into that time period, its pretty simple and not overly wordy which I enjoyed. I actually wish this would have been longer and had more added to it, I'd be interested in seeing how this type of relationship would have worked out over a length of time. Also, the whole waring kingdoms aspect is lightly discussed so that definitely could be expanded on. I feel like another story should be added to this one.
Overall, I enjoyed it. I'd recommend for lovers of this genre, if you're a prude this obviously isn't for you.
18+ this is a medieval erotica story~contains F/M/F
HAVING EVERYTHING ONE WOULD EVER WISH FOR IN THIS LIFE This story kept me captivated with its twist and turns and is very well written. This is an erotic fairy tale mystery and suspense story that entails lies, secrets, deceit, murder, espionage along with two kingdoms uniting. The characters are strong and resourceful, but not everyone can be trusted. What is the saying? "Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer." Isabella knows she must marry, and the unity between the kingdoms is vital and she feels drawn to Prince Alexander, and knows he will become King very soon since his father, King Charles in on his deathbed. He accepts and grants her wish to bring her maids and lady-in-waiting Hannah with her. More secrets will eventually come to light, but how will they affect the new King and Queen? Can they all find their HEA ending?
This was a delightful fun read. It had something for everyone. Murder, mayhem, danger, suspense, romance, spanking and hot erotic sex. Not quite family fare but it kept me reading to the finish.
Ms Rayne has a good idea here. There is a story here and it could have been good but it fell short for me. It was written with modern slang that brought me completely out of the story. This is also written in 1st person and with only one pov that made it worse for me. However, I was interested enough in the story to want to keep reading so if you don't mind 1st person you may enjoy this book.
I was given a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
At the age of twenty-three it is time for Princess Isabella to get married. She is not too thrilled about the idea of marriage to anyone much less someone she doesn't even know. But she is the princess and must do what a princess must do for her family and her kingdom. So if she must marry then Isabella has decided that she will marry Prince Alexander. His father is on his death bed so therefore Prince Alexander will become the King of his kingdom real soon. Princess Isabella figures if she is to be married then she must choose the Prince that will make her a Queen soon. She doesn't want to wait until she is an old woman and can’t enjoy being a Queen.
Isabella and Alexander are both use to getting what they want with both of them being a Princess and a Prince. So when they get married and move to Prince Alexander's castle Isabella sneaks off a lot from the prince and gets herself into lots of trouble with the prince. When he finally catches her he punishes her for disobeying him. He spanks her and promises that there will be more where that came from if she doesn't learn to do as she is told. Isabella lives in a time where the woman has to obey the man and hope she lucks up and gets a good man; one that doesn't hurt her.
When Isabella first moves to Prince Alexander's home she thinks that she has maybe made the right choice in picking her man. But after she has been there awhile things start to turn around on her. She witnesses a murder and she is being spanked herself. She is not sure that she can stay there and ever be happy. She begins to wonder if she might need to leave the prince. But leaving ones husband in her time period is not as easy as it sounds. One reason being is that most people don't marry for love they marry for convenience or arranged marriages.
Palace Secrets is one of those books that will keep you on your toes or the Princes herself will. You feel as if you are following her around and watching her and always trying to figure out what she is going to do next. Ravyn keeps you in suspense trying to figure out if the Prince is a good person or not. With Ravyn behind the wheel/story you never know what is going to pop up next. And she will make you love all of her characters no matter if they are bad or good. They will always be doing something that will keep you wanting to turn them pages so fast that you will end up your fingers smoking. Oh but that is no problem as the Prince is smoking hot too. If you love the historical novels and that time period then you are going to love Ravyn's Palace Secrets. Palace Secrets is so hot that I can't wait for the next book in the series. If you haven't read it then you need to get your hands on a copy ASAP!
Although the synopsis says that the story is full of sexual ingredients, I found the book light compared to other contemporary darker. Isabella was in love ... for another woman, but as a princess, for political reasons, would have to marry Prince Alexander. But this marriage, full of mysteries because the spouses did not know previously, could also bring much pleasure to both. It's a short story, if it were longer various aspects of the story could be better exploited. But it was interesting to read a medieval romance a bit more spicy.
I enjoyed this book. The plot offered danger, suspense, betrayal, struggling romances, and some steamy stuff to nicely round it out. It kept me happily turning pages until the end.
Palace Secrets by Ravyn Rayne Source: Netgalley My Rating: 5/5 stars My Review:
Book lover problem #593: you forget what a book in your TBR pile is about by the time you finally get around to reading it.
Every book lover has been a victim of problem #593. Here’s the difference between other book lovers and myself. Most of you are smart enough to reread the synopsis before diving into the read so you have some idea of what to expect. Did I do that with this read? Hell no, I just dove right on in. Wowsa, what a surprise I got Palace Secrets starts out naughty and ends naughty with some serious drama and action in between. In less than 85 pages, Rayne takes the reader on a wild ride of political intrigue, murder, ambition, power and, sexual desire all revolving around Princess Isabella.
The Princess is 23 and not yet married, a fate worse than death in some time periods. Isabella has spent the vast majority of her life avoiding the institution of marriage for a variety of reasons not the least of which is her love for Hannah, her lady-in-waiting. Isabella’s position in the world demands she marry and before Prince Alexander arrived, she had no interest in any of the suitors brought before her. Prince Alexander is instantly interesting, attractive and, quite proactive. It is widely known the Prince’s father is on his deathbed and waiting to marry is no longer an option for the Prince.
Isabella has only one condition for marrying Alexander, her ladies must be allowed to stay with her at court. Alexander instantly agrees to the condition and the two are duly married within 24 hours. Inside of that 24 hours, Isabella discovers two startling truths: she very much enjoys sex with her new husband and he killed his father. Needless to say, Isabella totally freaks out and turns to the one person she has always trusted, her lover, Hannah. From this point forward, all kinds of Hell breaks loose as Isabella and Hannah are outed, there is an attack on the castle and, Alexander surprises everyone with both his words and his actions.
The Bottom Line: I am all kinds of wanting more of this, NOW!!!! The length of the read is perfect for the amount of information covered/introduced, the plot is fast-paced, the naughty bits are excellent and, the characters are interesting, bold and, exciting. My only complaint is the sort of uncertainty about the time period this all takes place in as a result of the mixed language. For example, some speech among the characters feels older and some feels very modern. This complaint certainly didn’t keep me from enjoying this read and I have to say, I sincerely hope there will be more to this story. There are certainly elements and characters that can be further developed but as of now both Amazon and Goodreads show Palace Secrets as a stand-alone. More. Now. Please.

What happens behind palace doors, doesn't always stay a secret...
A fast moving romance,Palace Secrets follows a forbidden romance between Princess Isabella and her lady-in-waiting, Hannah. As two women in love can hold no future, let alone one with no royal blood, their only time to really be together is behind palace wall, hidden away in Isabella's chambers.
But with Isabella of age to take on a husband, she is courted by a prince looking for a wife to ensure the safety of his kingdom.
And with deadly dalliances in the picture looking to take out the crown, who can Isabella truly trust? And with hearts on the line, will one heart? Two hearts? OR three hearts be broken in the end?
Will Isabella's and Hannah's love prevail, despite growing affections for her own husband?-- who, awfully looks like a person of suspicious character himself?
Read and you will find out!
An over all, steamy medieval romance", as the author would describe it, but with a kick of heated eroticism.

My Thoughts:
1. The plot was very interesting yet nothing too complex. For such a short book, the story keeps you on your toes and the romance leaves you wanting more.
2. Sometimes the pacing did feel a bit rushed, it's understandable since the novel itself isn't very long. Because the novel was quite short I found there wasn't much in terms of character development.
3. There were moments where I found the plot to be very predictable and cliche. For that, I had to take off a star in my rating.
4. Overall, I found this book to be a very enjoyable read. Obviously if you're not into erotic romances then I would suggest skipping out on this book.
Palace Secrets, has something for everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed the story line and the characters. However, the scenes were a bit jumpy for me. Palace Secrets moved along entirely too fast for my tastes. More elaboration and back story could easily make this a 5 star review. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Palace Secrets, and finished it in one sitting. I was just looking for a bit more.
Lots and lots of secrets, some typical, some surprising. Nice little yarn without much substance. It all seems like a cheap set up meant only to titillate. No character development to win the reader, no emotional depth or constructed mystery. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
What a fab short story! This had me hooked from the very first page and I was intrigued the whole way through. I felt so many emotions which is pretty impressive due to the length of the book. I really liked the characters too.
I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
Just when Ella thinks that she cant be with her first love she drops her secret to her new hubby and his reaction was a surprise to her. This is a good little "quickie". I cant wait to see what happens next.
