I could tell you that the author is a middle class, middle age white dude with a generic wife and a generic pet who lives somewhere vaguely rural...but aren't they all? F%$! that noise! There are Author Bios and then there's Mythos.
Welcome to the Mythos of Macronomicon.
Macronomicon is almost three years old now, hatched on the open-mic writing website Royal Road. The pen name burst from the cocoon of blissful ignorance and deposited his first humble contribution into the world of writing, tired and sticky, yet satisfied. Content in the knowledge his work would be warmly received by thousands of potential fans, and more importantly...friends.
The first comment was, "Can you, I don't know, make the main character less stupid?"
That was sobering.
Macronomicon has no actual weight, because he is a pen name, and while his existence is ephemeral, he does have a presence, often stalking the back-channels of Discord like a novelty vampire, waiting to suck nourishing creativity out of unfortunate* fans.
Macronomicon has a talent for brainstorming and stringing together disparate ideas into a cohesive story. That talent has been strengthened and built upon to form the foundation of his writing career. He once outlined the plot (quality notwithstanding) of an entire book from start to finish in a tiny room with nothing but Cheerios, beef jerky, Pepsi and B.O.**
If you wish to hunt for the elusive Macronomicon, you may find him at Royal Road, where he began, or Patreon, where he works*** at distilling new stories from a raw, chunky slurry of ideas.
*Or fortunate, depending on your point of view. The sucking is consensual. **Quality of B.O. also notwithstanding. *** Working is subjective.
Cannot speak (write?) highly enough of this series. Fantastic plot, with mystery, humour and growth. But most of all, the characters are macronomicon's strength, as usual. The challenge will be to keep the growing. I'd hate to see Will just all of a sudden be able to predict his enemies moves based on "logic" or just because he's "just that intelligent". Balancing his naivety with his quick comprehension will be the goal, which means he does need to fail the logic check every now and then. It also feels a touch out of place to find Will and Loth just cuddling all of a sudden? Still, brilliant novel. Cannot wait for the next.
Becoming OP in increasingly absurd ways. Fighting up levels because your build is focused where your enemy is less capable. And succeeding because you do something insane…that works.
Now I will practice patience until book is released. I will *not* go to a different website and read ahead…
This book was as enjoyable as the previous ones in the series, but I was completely taken off guard when it ended. There was no author's note or anything after the final page, and it seemed like a strange place in the story to stop. There was no resolution to the conflict with the big bad of the book.
Fsucken love this shit. Loved system apocalypse and under powered Howard before this. Numbers are easy to skip for retired autists. Every book deserves a HYPE man, man!!! And having one definitively could not cause issues, right?
This series is sharp, funny, curious, and violent. It is also fun and lighthearted in tone, despite how dark the subject matter gets. An impressive trick, and one that has made The Legend a personal favorite.
The first 15-20% was a discussion of abilities and stats. Way too much minutiae. Then the rest of the book is decent, but then it ends abruptly. All in not terrible, but way too short with a lot of wasted pages.
I admit I struggled a little with book 2, but book 3 was amazing and more than made up for it. I couldn't put it down and was very disappointed that it was over!
Finished the third book in the series and absolutely loved all three so far. I hope a fourth book is forthcoming because I’m dying to know what challenges William Oh and his party will face next!
The third entry sucks you into the legend and starts to hint at Macronomicon’s usual meta story on why the system and the world are there. It is high octane fun. If you like stories with a quippy protagonist who uses creativity to win over seemingly impossible odds, this is a series for you.
