In a world where gods wield power over mankind, testing their loyalties and their hearts, there are some men that will rise from the ashes. This story begins with the sea. A beautiful goddess whose misplaced affection unleashed a wave of torment upon those who had wronged her, creating the means to wipe her beloved daughters from her sea. A mother whose love defied the laws of life and death, protecting her daughter from the demons of her past. A young woman who could not escape her fate or the will of her heart, leading her to embrace a man created to destroy her. Three warriors forged from a curse that has plagued them for generations, one seeking vengeance, one struggling with his nature as revelations shake his beliefs, and one that embraced his need for battle. A queen whose thirst for power leaves a trail of destruction in her wake by her use of deceit and dark magic. And a disheartened king with two sons, one born of love, the other pure evil, with a nature so dark it threatens to destroy all in his path. The struggle for power has begun.

*Book provided in exchange for honest review* 6/5 stars! Oh, my goodness!!! Where do I start? This is one of the best debut novels I have had the pleasure of reading! The world-building was phenomenal and it succeeded in making me forget about reality. The alternating point of views of many characters might seem confusing but it isn't! Every POV was intriguing in it's own right and they kept me wondering who the story was going to lead me to next! The multiple point of views make the story so much more beautiful and captivating than it already is. There wasn't a dull moment! It's all action and betrayal plus love, pure and loyal. Every person is dealing with different problems but their lives are all deeply intertwined. Watching it all play out was a thrill like no other. I related to Lorelei at first sight! We both share an immense love and passion for water and I couldn't help but get lost in her shoes. Ajax is a badass hero, Oliver a loyal warrior, Lorelei a beautiful soul, and so many other characters are deserving of the highest praise. Except for Peronell. UGH! I can't remember the last time I hated a character so much! I saw red every time she was mentioned and I trembled with rage. Of course, this was only possible by Aimee's spectacular way of writing. She brought life to the rawest evil in the form of a person and it got to me. & THAT ENDING!!!!! Gah. I couldn't ask for a more perfect one. Oh, man. I wanted to crawl in that last page and live there forever. I wasn't ready to let the story go... still am not. I am so proud of Aimee and her talent for the written word! Everybody needs to read this fantastic gem like yesterday!
While reading Alluring Song the only word that came to mind through the entire book was that it was just Magical. I loved the plot and all the characters roles in the story. It all went together so well.
I absolutely adored Lorelei. Her character is so strong, vibrant, good hearted and fights for others who need someone to stand up for them. Her character has such a bright soul it just glows and radiates off the pages. You can’t help but feel everything she does and root for her happy ending.
Ajax is just amazing. I fell in love with his character instantly even though at first he was so cold. His heart is closed and dark in the beginning, but after meeting Lorelei he has to fight everything he has ever known not to see her for the beautiful person she is. His battle within himself on whether he should do what he has always been taught to do and what he is feeling for Lorelei will just hook you. You will enjoy his growth throughout the book.
All the characters in the story will grab your attention and you’ll find yourself reading just to figure out how they all fit together in this amazing story. What roll they all play and how their story will end. I was on the edge of my seat the more I read. There is so much drama, love, and vengeance going on in the story you will just be blown away by the end of the book.
I give Alluring Song by Aimee McNeil 4 out of 5 Magical Stars.
i really loved this book...i loved the characters, and the feel of the time period. The writer kept me interested in the characters and story, and i love how it was wrapped up nicely in the end...I hope Aimee writes a series on this ♡♡
Alluring Song, an addicting fantasy/romance written by a lovely new author, Aimee McNeil.
A couple weeks ago, I was contacted by Aimee McNeil for a request to review her book. It has been a while since I have taken review requests, but I have a hard time turning down a fantasy/romance -- and I am glad I didn't. Her writing is beautiful, the words are entrancing, and the story flows smooth. The change in POVs also helped understand each character more and I am glad she decided to take this route.
Lorelei has always felt a connection with water, the ocean. There is something alluring about how it makes her feel calm. But her mother always warns her not to spends so much time gazing at it, fearing something ...
In this story Lorelei does not yet know what or whom she is--in a way it's almost innocent. She ends up being forced from home and during this period meets Ajax, who sometimes seems like he cares, the next, like he wants her dead. Together they go on a journey to fingering out what Lorelei is and what makes her different from others.
This is a story of sirens whom seduce and feed on human souls and soldiers whom are born with the fate to destroy any siren that comes in their path, called Men of Savas. I do not believe I have ever read a book on sirens; to be honest, I've never even heard the myths surrounding sirens. Aimee manages to include a brief idea of sirens and the myths within the plot itself, so for those of you who have never heard of these creatures, you'll be able to enjoy the story even more.
I enjoyed Lorelei she was strong despite not understanding the situations she was put in. The other characters were interest as well. I adored Oliver!
Another thing I should mention, I'm going to rate this book 18+. There are a few graphic scenes.
Overall, I could have devoured this book in a day, if it weren't for my hectic schedule. It's been quite some time where I have read a book that is not predictable; did not know how it was going to end -- SPEAKING of endings, the epilogue makes readers anticipate what's going to happen next! Hoping for a sequel ... (fingers crossed)
For a first-time novelist, the author very skillfully handles intertwining narratives and a great host of characters and successfully ties up the myriad plot threads into a satisfying conclusion. There is some beautiful description in this book too --Aimee is a natural writer and storyteller and it shows in Alluring Song.
The only thing that kept me from completely loving this book was the frequent and often senseless violence towards women. I understand that this fantasy world (which feels a lot like medieval England) IS violent in nature but that still doesn't make me enjoy description of women being raped, beheaded, beaten, and belittled.
I couldn't get into the central romance either because Ajax's early treatment of Lorelei is abusive and cruel. I didn't understand why she fell in love with him, frankly. Anyone who let me fall off a horse to teach me a lesson wouldn't be kissing me later.
Despite this, I really did enjoy the world the author created, the mythology, and the intricate and satisfying storyline.
I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for sharing my honest opinion
Upon starting this book, I was immediately swept up in the story. It was beautifully written - almost poetically so - and it read like a bit of a fairy tale for older teens and adults.
Though there were multiple points of view, I never once got lost. I felt like all the characters, good and bad and those that toed that gray area in between, had their distinct personalities. I honestly don't think I've read anything like this before - in a good way. I felt like part of the story, the way that the author described things was done so well but gradually if that makes sense, so nothing ever seemed redundant.
There were plot points that arose that I honestly never saw coming, and there was so much suspense throughout that I never felt like I knew what was coming next.
If you are looking for something new and different and well, pretty darn amazing, Alluring Song is for you!
Attention fantasy lovers, I have found the perfect book for you!
Alluring Song is a captivating novel full of romance, humour, action, and steamy scenes not suitable for children. It features loveable characters who, throughout different chapters written from different points of view, we come to know and love (or hate). The plot is full of twist and turns that keep your eyes glued to the pages as you frantically flip through to find out what happens next. I found that when I had to put the book down (ugh) I was constantly thinking of when I would be able to pick it up again. What I enjoyed most was that the book was so different from anything else I have read, it was unpredictable and the intricate plot was one of the most interesting plots I have gotten lost in in a while. This book is a bit of an emotional roller coaster that leaves you guessing what will happen next until the very end, I give it an A+!
Aimee McNeil is a wonderful writer, her descriptions of the settings are gorgeous - you feel like you're really there among the plot and the characters jump to life off of the page! Lorelei is a lovely, layered, complex person who is surprisingly relatable considering all the magic surrounding her life. Although there is violence and brutality within the pages, as the story line unfolds it becomes necessary to understanding the explosive ending. This is the debut novel of a writer who is going far!
This book was an amazing story! It was fast paced and kept me interested. However, due to some violent moments, I would NOT recommend it if you are against that sort of thing or would not recommend it for a younger audience. If you aren't either of those, then get it and enjoy the ride.
I found Alluring Song an amazing read! First I want to say that my beginning impression was that Aimee McNeil's writing style was poetic and inviting. As I went through the chapters the new characters that were introduced changed the feel of the story with very graphic and unexpected scenes which startled me. Both good and evil scenes. Her writing style kept hold of me, and she is very talented. The depth of the writing was well...alluring.
The characters were very real for me, and the fantasy world as well. The world building was a wonderful experience. I fell in love with Lorelei, and Oliver as individual characters. They were sweet and their friendship made my heart swell. I especially liked Oliver because he was simply hilarious at times. At first he appeared to be a small boy, and by the end of the book he had developed into a fine young man.
Lorelei and Ajax. They were intense, and incredibly romantic. I enjoyed their chemistry and passion for each other. Following their uncertain beginning relationship, and watching it take shape kept me turning the pages. I wanted to know more, see how they would finally be together. Both are strong willed, ruled by their emotions and let their hearts guide them as they fight the evil forces attacking at all sides. Always trying to save each other as well as others. Once their love and need for each other is realized they don't play games, but are refreshingly honest and sure.
The evil queen and her evil son. They were freakish and quite disturbing. I actually didn't want to read about them, they were so good at being evil it was alarming to read what horrific thing they did next.
There were grammatical common errors throughout the book which increased towards the end. I read a Kindle version so perhaps some were connected to formatting issues. Either way the small errors didn't take away from the story at all for me, they were just noticeable.
I'm pleased with the way this story was entangled with mythology. It was a fascinating story to weave with such legends, and I enjoyed it immensely. I love happy endings as well, and this one finished everything up wonderfully. It was an adventure, and I'm soooo glad the author wrote it! Looking forward to her future fantasy novels!
