The Lone Echo: A Deadwake Universe Source-Book

Rate this book
There is no crew. No Facilitator to answer your questions. No ally to steady your nerves when the Static grows loud. There is only you, the dice, and the voice whispering through the noise, telling you things that may or may not be true.

The Lone Echo is a complete solo play toolkit for the Deadwake universe, a hybrid system that is part journaling game, part tactical wargame, and part procedural storytelling engine. It is built for a single player guiding a lone operative through the psychically hostile landscape of the Wake, armed with nothing but their own fracturing judgment and a set of systems designed to produce a story no one can predict. In solo Deadwake, psychological pressure is as much a threat as any enemy on the table, and the line between signal and noise grows thinner with every mission.

The Static Oracle

The core engine of the book replaces the Facilitator's voice with the Cognitive Static itself. Roll 2d6, ask a yes/no question, and interpret what comes back. A clean answer is the exception. More often the Oracle delivers a "Yes, but..." loaded with cost, a "No, and..." that compounds the problem, or a Paradoxical Event that tears the scene apart entirely. The Oracle is unreliable by design. It gives signals. You decide what they mean, and you live with that interpretation.

Three Solo Origins

Each origin provides a unique narrative track and a mechanically distinct campaign arc.

The Fugitive is being hunted. Every failed check and every bad Oracle result advances the Pursuit Track toward a Hard a safe house burned, a contact turned, an assassin dispatched. Safety is temporary. Running is the default.

The Pilgrim is searching for something the Wake may not be willing to silence, transcendence, an answer the Static actively distorts. The Clarity Track rises with insight and retreats with every psychic wound, measuring the distance between revelation and dissolution.

The Last Witness has one a patient, methodical reckoning against a specific target. The Leverage Track fills with evidence, turned assets, and successful missions. When it is full, the Witness finally holds enough power to choose how the story ends.

The Automated Battlefield

Faction-specific AI protocols bring every major Deadwake faction to the solo tabletop. Kenshin's honor-driven duelist mentality, CAD's cold efficiency, the Choir's resonance-hunting aggression, and the Null Guard's methodical erasure each generate a distinct tactical challenge. Static Surge events, hidden deployment tokens, fog of war mechanics, and persistent battlefield scars ensure that no two skirmishes play the same way. The narrative tracks feed directly into the a Fugitive's filling Pursuit Track can spawn an elite assassin mid-mission; a Last Witness's accumulated Leverage can flip a non-essential enemy unit through blackmail mid-fight.

Mission Generator and Long-Term Campaign Tools

The d66 Mission Generator builds complete mission frameworks from five Faction, Objective, Location, Complication, and Reward. Faction Intrigue Clocks advance in the background whether or not the character is paying attention, and when a clock fills, the world changes around them. Downtime systems, journaling templates, Memory Echo tables, Scene Twist tables, and Environmental Evolution ensure the campaign accumulates weight and consequence across every mission.

The Lone Echo requires the Deadwake Roleplaying Game Rulebook and Miniatures Rules. It is a full expansion designed specifically for solo play in the Deadwake product line.
