Fifth re-read: 12.07.2021
I couldn't help it. I needed something fast forward and easy to read and this came to mind. I really like it and I wish we had gotten more in this series.

Forth re-read: 14.01.2021
I simply adore this book. Only thing I wish for is that it was longer. I desperately want more. It's hot, funny and straight forward. It doesn't have much depth, but that's why it's... “fluffy” :P I just can't seem to decide on the rating as it changes every time I read it...
New rating: 3.5/4 stars.

Third re-read: 28.01.2020
You see, I like this book. I truly do. It's interesting with interesting characters. What ruins it for me is actually the epilogue. In the epilogue we realize that we've missed a whole lot in between the last chapter and the epilogue. Things that could've made the book deeper and help show development in Beth and Daniil's relationship. I very much would've liked to see his kids reaction to him being in a relationship... That being said, I wish the book was longer and had more depth.
New rating: 3.5 stars.

Second re-read: 18.03.18
This book still interest me; it's still hot and sexy. I like that it's a fast read, without all that much depth. The series centers around press/reporter at the Brick Foundation’s event, Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Forter (28) and the head of the Russia mafia, Daniil Kozar (49). They meet, find themselves attracted to each other despite their age difference. The rest is history. Overall, I'm glad I still like it. Sure, the rating is going to be lowered as I still don't like the insta-love feel, but I enjoy the book and the characters.
“Any reporter, who’s worth their grain in salt, is a truth seeker. That’s where the good stories lead you, since the best stories come from the biggest lies,”

Eva Kozar, daughter of Daniil.
Roman Kozar, son of Daniil.
Artur Kozar, son of Daniil.

Stash Bailey, a co-owner of Lion Security.
Ember Lerrus, a co-owner of Lion Security.

I do love re-reading this author, that's for sure. She makes good and fast forward stories and I like her write and I love her men.

First read review:
Yet another great book from Scarlett Dawn!! She's just fantastic at writing good books! There's three/four things I didn't like about this book though,: 1. Daniil’s age.. He's waaaaaaaay too old for me. 2. The writing was a bit hard to read, and I was having a bit of trouble to understand and follow what I was reading. 3. the epilogue/the ending was too quick, too fast... I got the feeling that I was missing a few chapters. 4. The insta-love... I get the attraction, I just hate when things go too fast, but luckily there wasn't a "I love you" yet! :) Other than that.. I WANT MORE!

Well this is one book I never expected to like as much as I did :P

description

The beginning was a little rocky because beside the main female character there where so many other characters introduced throughout her that it was pretty hard to keep up. I actually thought that there was a previous series that I missed but no...this author's previous series where fantasy and paranormal so it wasn't that. After that I concentrated really hard and tried to remember everybody...but of course failed miserably :P

description

Well...after that rocky begging and a pretty awkward sex scene...

description

...that turns pretty hot in the end...or at least as hot it can get when both people are so drunk (on Obsidian...hence the name of the book) they can't even remember their names (or to put a condom on it) :P

description

...I started to really like the story and the characters and I found myself not being able to put it down :D

The thing I liked the most about this book was the fact that Daniil Kozar is almost 50 (but looks very good for an "old man" :P) and the author didn't shy away from giving him an age that you don't normally find in romance novels. The age gap between him and Elizabeth didn't bother me at all because they had a strange relationship that really worked :D

description

Can't wait to see what happens next because their story continues in Obsidian Mask and we hopefully get to unravel a few mysteries that where kept hidden in this one and meet the crazy gang again ;)

It's a hell lot of thrilling stuff...

"He was trouble, but he was the delicious darkness that you slipped into freely."

There is something in the books where there is a large age difference between the characters which for someone is exciting and for others not. I count myself to this first group. And I must say we have here forty-nine year old sexy alpha hero who has a thing for a little, itty-bitty and red-haired twenty-eight year old woman. At the same thought I have good chills!

Elizabeth Forter is a news reporter who goes to a charity event organized for security companies. Lion Security is one of the best in the states. Everyone - family, celebrities, companies and journalists - arrive there for two weeks, where they will compete with others and raise money for charity.

Daniil Kozar, is father of co-owners the Lion Security and the Russian mafia king. He will do anything to protect his children. So when he sees that crafty reporter revolves around them, he wants to prevent this. Daniil underestimated the feisty girl and they end up with too much alcohol and not planned sex.

The beginning of the book is horribly twisted, too many characters and hard to catch. But once you get to the scene with Obsidian Liquor you gets sucked completely and almost to the end can not put down. Here so much going on, crazy and strange things, that to the very end you do not know what's going on. And even when it ends you do not know, because obviously, there is another part that is strongly connected to the first.

On the one hand, that's what makes it addictive. On the other it is romance, which is really exciting. Daniil can be extremely affectionate and attentive, to literally one moment become frightening. While Elizabeth can be fearless and sassy, but at some points even she must show fear.

This created a great duo. I love their interactions. This how he can change his approach and turn her on. And how she can stand up to him and defuse him. It is adorable and funny. Very funny and a little silly were scenes when he was hiding his love affair in front of his children. What can I say... Bigkids!

The only reason I did not give five stars, it is because in certain moments is too much. She is a an excellent news-winner and has many enemies, but in scene on the golf course... it was fun but come on... seriously? Like I say too much.

Although I really got involved. I am very curious all the secrets that come out and I hope that I will be able to read the next part and that will not disappoint. There is no love yet, lust and great sex, lots of action, a wild action, a lot supporting characters, about which I could read - maybe I would more understand - that's why it's crazy stuff - good crazy stuff.

Reread November 2025 -<.b>

Uhh, honestly, I don't know how I rated this so highly at the time. I used to love it, but the writing was so poor on this reread. No contractions, all the characters are idiots, and this author's lead females are all the same. I'm sure if I reread more of her books, I'd likely dislike them now too.

Dangerous Alpha male, Mafia connections, age difference and a strong female lead - what's there not to like?! Add to that that this book was funny AND the sex was hot.

Though I do kind of wish I had waited til the series was finished to start reading this because now I'm really impatient for more.

This is the book that got me so interested in this author’s writing.
It’s hilarious. It’s hot as all hell. It’s dangerous.
It’s just pure fun. And to top it all off it’s really fast paced and a super smooth read.
I honestly love it.

I love this book so much.
The dynamic between these two is super fucking funny, and he’s got that classic romance Russian roughness that I’m a huge fan girl of.
It’s sexy as all hell.
Plus the interactions with the side characters are also pretty hilarious.
Every time I read it I can’t help but giggle and blush.

Still a hit.
I’m just also realizing that I don’t Love Elizabeth.🤷🏻‍♀️ She gets better as the trilogy goes on, but she’s a teensy bit annoying in this first one.

** 3.5 stars **

The book started slow then became more interesting and kind of funny. My biggest issue is that the author doesn't introduce the side characters hardly at all but we are supposed to know who they are without any background information. You keep wondering if you missed other books in a series but there aren't any.

Obsidian Liquor is the first book in a new series called Lion Security by Scarlett Dawn.

Elizabeth Forter, reporter and preachers daughter, is covering a tournament to reveal the best of the elite security companies. Beth's goal is to uncover the stories behind key players, specifically the Lion Security team. But she soon finds herself in the sights of the patriarch of the Lion's Security family, Danill Kozar...who is also a Russian mafia boss.

Yes, you heard me right, preachers daughter meets Russian mafia boss...that alone made for a wonderful story telling. Add in some obsidian liquor and you find yourself engulfed in laugh out loud situations, quirky, powerful characters and an unlikely connection that sets the pages on fire.

Leaving me wanting more, I devoured this story in a single sitting.

I received this ARC copy of Obsidian Liquor from Scarlett Dawn in exchange for a honest review.

Obsidian Liquor is the first installment in author Scarlett Dawn's Lion Security series. It features a variety of characters, but the leads are Elizabeth Forter and Daniil Kozar. Elizabeth is a reporter who will do anything to obtain and print the truth. Daniil is the head of the Russian mafia who protects those he loves with all that he is. Elizabeth and Daniil meet at a charity event where Elizabeth is attending with the press. She is also there in a personal attempt to find some dirt on one of Daniil's family members. Daniil is suspicious and he sets very firm boundaries with her regarding the type of "snooping" he won't allow. Elizabeth is not scared off easily but she slowly realizes who Daniil really is and what he is capable of. However, both of their roles significantly change after a major event in the book (or at least what I considered a major event!). I'll leave the rest for the reader to experience. But let me just say that the scene of the both of them drunk is my favorite scene in the whole story. I laughed out loud several times! Oh...and Daniil and Elizabeth are freakin' hot together! He's a scary guy but you can tell he becomes a whole different person with people he cares about. I enjoyed all the characters in this story and I was so excited to learn that this is the first in a series and not just a short-story like I thought. I originally read this as part of the short-story collection: The Obsidian Collection. I wasn't so sure about Obsidian Liquor in the beginning- I felt it was slow to start and a little bit like I was missing a backstory or something but I quickly became engaged and could not put it down.

There were a few issues that gave me pause while I was reading but they didn't distract from my overall enjoyment.

If you're a fan of Scarlett Dawn then you know there is no question whether or not you will be reading this! If you are new to Ms. Dawn's work then give it a try! I give Obsidian Liquor 4 stars. I really, really liked this book!

What happens when a preacher’s daughter and a Russian Mafia Don strike a deal? Has the lady made a deal with the devil or could it be that the Don has met his match in the petite and fiery strawberry blonde? Elizabeth is going for an expose on a crooked politician, as a member of the press, she has made a lot of enemies, but none scare her like the powerful force that is Russia’s mob boss. Daniil is handsome, hard and old enough to be her father, but there is something seductive in the very air of power, danger and mystery that surrounds him. Used to being feared, respected and treated with deference, Daniil finds the honest fire and the smart mouth of Elizabeth to be magnetic, as if she has bespelled him. She is nothing like the women he prefers. She is a woman on a mission and it has crossed paths with Daniil and his family. But the lure of animal passions, a few bottles of good vodka and the lust-o-meter hits the red zone! Talk about the odd couple, a woman raised in a world of forgiveness and the grace of God who is still a rebellious crusader and a man who is unafraid to pull a gun whenever needed, but has the gentle touch of a tender lover and protector, and we’ve only just begun…

I had tears in my eyes laughing at the antics of these two quirky characters, yes, both of them are endearing, human and a huge surprise! Scarlett Dawn writes and she scores big time in the reading bliss department! Talk about creative, fun reading and smoking hot steam! From the Uglies to the secret lovers, I loved them all. Scarlett Dawn is a strong author, filled with a zeal for her work that shines through with every word! I noticed something else, seems our Elizabeth bares a close physical resemblance to Ms. Dawn, which leads one to wonder about her quick wit, razor sharp tongue and knack for getting in trouble!

I did receive a copy from Scarlett Dawn in exchange for my honest review, but I had already purchased it, myself!

***ARC kindly provided for the exchange of an honest review***

This book really took me by surprise. It was a nice story that was moving quite fast. The writing was good and funny. The heroes were believable and really hot. The book is written from Beth's POV and it's really nicely done.

However I had some issues with this book and that's why it didn't take five stars. The story starts and Beth is talking about Ember and how she wants to get her but really I couldn't understand why. Also I couldn't understand the story of Ember. She had two boyfriends that were soldiers and now they were back but I couldn't understand the dynamic of her relationship with them and why Beth wanted so much to find out if she had a lover. Then the story becomes better and I start following and on the best part the book ends. The epilogue start that it takes place 2 weeks after the beginning of the book and I honestly couldn't understand how it got there. There is talk also about a secret but we don't find out what it is!

I definitely would like to read the next book from this series because I am really curious to see what happens next and how the story of Beth and Daniil goes on.

I was a little confused by the description but intrigued too.

This competition is the Olympics for security forces like Cristin Haber's Titans, Julie Ann Walker's Black Knights Inc and Maya Banks' KGI. The security forces compete in games, and the spectators make bets on who will win. These bets are donations to the Mayor of New York's wife's new charity.

Now Elizabeth is a reporter determined to bring down Mr & Mrs Mayor. Daniil is a Russian Mafia king whose son could be hurt in the middle of the take down. He is will not let that happen. They weren't prepared for the sparks that flew when they got together especially with the 21 year age difference. I love the nicknames she gives to his personal security.

This is a great start to a series, but you might need a score card to keep up with all the people introduced and how they are all related. I'm going to need the next one to be the rest of Beth and Daniil's story cause there's a big hole between going to breakfast and her trying to burn down the hotel room. You don't get five stars for holes. I really enjoyed this and can't wait to see what happens next.

Obsidian Liquor was the first book I've read from this author and once I saw the cover and read the description, I knew I had to try it. This was an unusual book and I'm going to try and figure out why as I tell you a bit about it.

Elizabeth was...pretty okay. For the life of me, I have no idea why authors want to make newspaper reporters the heroines of romance novels, which is what Elizabeth was. Reporters are stereotypically pretty unlikable, always trying to get up in other people's business. Elizabeth was no different. She was on some kind of a mission to destroy the Mayor and/or his family but it was never explained WHY she hated him/them so much. Then, her hatred of guns and violence in general was also never sufficiently explained. I mean, just because her father is a preacher doesn't mean that he would automatically be anti-gun, does it? I don't know. I guess there was just A LOT about Elizabeth that was never explained so I never really warmed up to her. But, I liked reading her and understood some of her reactions to things going on around her.

Daniil was another enigma. All I know for sure about him was that he was almost 50 years old, loved his family, and was a big Russian Mafia boss. I guess I liked Daniil but with only knowing three things about him, it's hard to say for sure. I mean, Russian Mafia bosses are bad guys, right? And we don't like bad guys, right? Worse than that, after they had Sexy Time, Daniil actually threatened to kill Elizabeth if she talked about something she overheard that she wasn't supposed to hear. To me, he sounded like a total dick at that point. But dammit, I found myself rooting for this dude to be with Elizabeth! What the hell? I'm telling you, this author is some kind of magician because there is absolutely no logical reason for me to like ANY of these people, but especially not Daniil! And I liked him! And wanted to know more about him!

Does it make me an a-hole if I had a hard time with the over 20 year age difference between Elizabeth and Daniil? I mean, I think it makes me mad that it's okay for a 50 year old man to have sex with a woman in her 20's but if a 50 year old woman had sex with a dude in his 20's it would be creepy or gross. Come on, you know you'd be at least a little bit skeeved, right? So yeah, the age difference bothered me a bit and Elizabeth's actual, real fear of Daniil bothered me. She goes from being afraid of him to banging him in record time. But you know, the Sexy Time between them was SUPER hot so I guess I really can't complain all that much, can I? LOL!

It makes no sense to me but I enjoyed this book. There were just SO MANY unanswered questions. If they had been explained, I think the book would have been much better. The setting baffled me - some kind of strongman competition between various security companies and military guys and special forces guys... Huh? Like obstacle courses and boxing/fighting matches. It made no sense and I've never heard about anything like that in real life. A bunch of the secondary characters acted very strangely and I had no idea why. I felt like the book ended really abruptly and made me wonder if Book 2 of this series will continue where this one left off and will be about Elizabeth and Daniil again? So I guess my problem was this: there was a lot about this book that I didn't like and there was so much in the book that was important but never explained. But I really liked reading this book and I didn't want to put it down! The setting might have been a bit ridiculous but I was sucked in and didn't want the book to end. I think I would have to recommend this one. I need to know if I'm losing my mind or if everyone likes it too! For sure, I'm intrigued and I'd like to see what comes next in this series!

A reporter and a the head of a Russian mafia? Totally curious.

This book was parts captivating, parts confusing, and parts not to my liking.

First of all, the parts not to my liking. The heroine can be flaky. She has the reporter gene that means 'truth at any cost'. Except this time, her 'truth' search is strictly to use a painful and heartbreaking moment in the personal life of a man to splash the story to hurt his folks all because they suppressed her racy tell-all stories about their family's private life. Gee, really? People don't want you putting their personal lives out in national print? The nerve of them.
Then she claims to be afraid of the Russian mafia group, but she opens up her mouth and spews stupid at them and makes threats about getting her story. Um-kay...not a bright gal, but fortunately the head of the mafia that she insults and picks on publicly happens to fall for her so she comes up aces on that one. Oh, and she doesn't believe in guns and gets skeevy over the mafia folks doing violence to save her life no less, but she decks a gal and breaks her nose feeling it's justified since the gal beat her up the year before.

Next, the parts confusing. Okay, usually I have no trouble working out what is going on, but seriously, I got dropped into the middle of a series arc and not just the middle of a story since there are established couples, frequent mentions of previous story threads, lots of characters who all know each other, and yeah this isn't the case. This was the start of a book that seems wholly unconnected to any other book so I spent a book feeling like it was the middle of something and seeing ongoing plot threads that were really just there like that. And a few of these threads never did make sense or stop dangling. It was annoying.

And the captivating part was indeed that odd pairing of a snoopy single-minded reporter and the head of a mafia family. This pair were fun. They detest each other at first or so it seems, but then end up liquored up and doing something about an attraction that neither want. He is much older with adult children and she's digging into his son's private life. They were a hot couple and I could see how they would work out together and liked it.

But unfortunately, the weird feeling of confusion from the way this one jumped into the middle of the story and the flaky reporter heroine overtook my enjoyment in the romance and the couple. So, it might be worth a try for others if they want a hot opposites attract story.

Obsidian Liquor was the first book by Scarlett Dawn that I have read and it interested me enough to read book 2. I found the story short and very sexy. I enjoyed Daniil and Beth together, although at times I did find Beth annoying. Daniil was older, sexy and I loved how he didn't want his children to know he was having sex. His children BTW are adults lol. I'm looking forward to more in this series.

The first half of the book, I felt I was constantly missing something, or the book was telling "inside" stories that I just didn't get. Almost like there should have been something before this book. It was hard, for me, at first to keep up and it was frustrating. I even stopped reading and went to see if I missed a prequel somewhere. Something that introduced what the hell was going on and why the h was even around and why the H hated her so much. Slowly but surely things started falling in place. But it was definitely one of those where alot of the answers don't come until later.
There were A LOT of characters. For something that was already confusing, this added to it. Everyone already knew everyone so it was really the reader as the one in the dark and it took a while to really tell the characters story, even though things were happening "now" that were a result of what had happened in the past.
Overall it was very sexy. Loved the older H and much younger h aspect. Thought the H was Alpha, but could have shown it a little more.

I loved this book!! The book had all the things I really love a jealous/possessive and protective super bad alpha; a strong, likeable h who is not a pushover (nor is she a bitch); sexual tension and hot sex but no instant love; and lol moments.

In all fairness I SHOULD give this book 4 stars because the story wasn't fully fleshed out. There are all these background characters with a history that was implied rather than fully explained and it felt to me like I was reading a book 2 in a series rather than book 1. However, I enjoyed the book so much I'm giving it 5 stars and immediately moving onto book 2.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I didn't like Daniil as much as I think I should like a MC. He started redeeming himself a little later on in the story but there was something about him that didn't inspire much confidence in this newfound relationship with Elizabeth. The loving was scorching hot but that's not going to be enough o carry the story. I was not much a fan of the secondary characters in the story, Daniil's family. It was enough of a story that I'm curious about the rest so I'm not quite ready to give up on this series. The next story will determine if I stay the course.

*I received a free copy from the author for an honest review*

I had previously read the author's Forever Evermore series so I was expecting this book to be good. But it was even better than I thought it would be. I am glad I took a chance on her adult series. Because this book totally rocks and I have put it on my favourite list. I can see myself rereading this book often inspite of the mature content.

The beginning of the book was a bit confusing since I was on information overload with the number of characters introduced and also because I felt as if I stepped right into the middle of the book rather than the start. After a while, it started making sense and I was able to follow the story.

The characters all meshed well with the story. They all gave a unique slant to the plot with their interactions and their history with each other. The plot has so many sub plots to keep track of that I was overwhelmed at times. But I was also so intrigued with the dynamics.

But the main plot is that of the heroine, Elizabeth and her attempt to find pay dirt on Cole and Brent. And also the accidental romance between her and the Mafia head, Daniil. The entire book can be summed up in the above two sentences. That's what the book is about.

It is a very short sexy read. The dialogues between the protagonists sizzle at times with heat and other times with danger. I was so sure Daniil would hurt Elizabeth in certain scenes. But he seems to control himself well while she is always provoking him without thought. The drinking scene is one of my favourites followed closely by the the one on the morning after the momentous event ( you will know it when you read the book *hint hint* ). The chemistry between the heroine and hero is so good that I can feel the sparks between them in their interactions while the humour in the tale had me laughing under my breath throughout the book.

The ending felt kind of abrupt to me and I thought that it might have had few more scenes to end it properly. But at the same time, this had whetted my appetite for the next book which I can't wait to start! So overall, I recommend this book to contemporary romance lovers who like spicy and humorous stories.

My one like review : A short spicy humorous romance tale which will keep you wanting more!

My rating : 5/5

My reread factor : 5/5

Hotness Rating 3.5 out of 5

This first book of the Lion Security series was so fast paced I literally read it in one sitting. Obsidian Liquor was packed with action, intrigue, lies, secrets and all kinds of sexy male hotness. The characters had their own agenda so it was so hard to know who to trust and what was really going on. This is especially hard for me who can't stand not knowing what's going on. I'm very interested to read what this series holds for us.

The beginning was a bit rocky. At first I thought I somehow only got the second half of the book or that this book was the second in the series and not the first like I thought. It started out in the thick of things almost assuming we knew the characters and the stories already. None of this was the case. It was definitely the first book and just started out with a bang and expected us to all catch up. Which I eventually did. Once I felt like I had the gist of everything figured out I really enjoyed the story and characters.

I liked Daniil a lot. Which disturbs me in so many ways considering he's Russian mafia. He's not a good guy in the traditional sense and he doesn't pretend to be. Yet, there is something oh so sexy and alluring about him. He was a mature character that would do anything to protect his adult children. At 49 he's young to have adult children and he knows how to work his it.

Elizabeth was a bit awkward for me at times. I'm not sure if it was her sheltered background or not, but at times she came across as a little girl playing grown up games. Don't get me wrong, I can't imagine trying to make the cut in this particular group.

When Elizabeth and Daniil come together it's explosive. One would think the copious amounts of alcohol they consumed could have had something to do with that, but one would be wrong. You could literally feel the steam coming from my Kindle (okay maybe not literally, but you get the idea).

I'm intrigued to read more of this series and try to figure out all of these characters and get just what their stories are.

This book was provided to me in exchange for my honest review.

Okay, this so wasn't my thing.
Firstly it felt like I was missing half of the story. We have an obscure two week charity event that really doesnt get explained. Attending this event are the Mayor of New York, different security companies, and the Russion Mafia Boss. WHY???????? How did they all get together? And then there is the press, who seems to be included in this event, but again, the explanations are skipped over. Elizabeth is one of those journalists. Her mission is to bring Mayor Donovan down....or just hurt him. Whatever. Again, no specifics given. Her task is to be accomplished by catching the Mayor's Son's girlfriend with another man. Here it got ridiculous. The mayor is hanging out with the Russian Mob Boss but apparently that's not newsworthy. Again, no explanation. So Beth stages a photo and then is worried that the Mafia will steal her SD card, which contains the only picture. We know she has access to a laptop and the internet, but apparently she can't send the picture to, let's say, an email address. The highlight of the book is when the Russian Mob Boss Daniil, decides to get drunk with Beth (Don't ask why, he just does) and they sleep together.
I am gonna stop there to not spoil the books for those of you who still want to read it, but for me there were just to may things left unexplained and that really bothered me. Since this story is free (right now) and a lot of people seem to think differently than me, everyone should form his own opinion of the series.

Elizabeth Forter, daughter of the president of the largest anti-gun coalition in the US and a preacher, is a reporter on a mission. This nosy journalist won't let a few adversaries get in the way of a good story, not even the children of Russia's biggest, baddest mafia boss. She may hate violence and guns, but that won't stand in her way when she senses a scoop. Not even a sexy, gun-toting mofo.

As the head of the Russian mafia, Daniil Kozar prefers to keep his secrets hidden. He is menacing, loves guns, power and his children. He is not about to let an itty bitty woman dig up more dirt on his children or Lion Security... Even if she is awfully cute...

It only takes one drunken night for the two to discover that opposites attract. At least in the sack. And Beth discovers that the badboys with bi guns that her father warned her about can be deliciously sexy... And can come in awfully handy for a reporter who habitually sticks her nose where it doesn't belong...

Daniil and Beth had great chemistry, as in scorching hot;-) I probably shouldn't describe Daanil's "ugly ducklings" as "sweet", but they were humorous and I really loved them too. I certainly hope we'll see more of this unlikely couple;-)

I was in the mood for an MC book. The hot beef cake on the cover of Obsidian Liquor said MC to me. I soon learned that it was a mafia book. *shrugs* Obsidian Liquor's been in my Kindle for year. It needed to be read.

For a short book I actually really enjoyed it. There were some scenes I found quite funny. Scarlett Dawn's writing made the reading flow easily. Had just the right amount of action, sex and humor.

If you're in the mood for a quicky with hot Russian mafia men, some humor and light action this might spark your interest.

The next book is full length and I think I'll have to stick that one on my TBR list. Her other books have gotten some good ratings from some of my friends too. I think I just found me a new author.

I had my fill when it came to mafia romances, so I approached Obsidian Liquor with a lot of cautiousness, but it was unnecessary. This story promptly pulled me in and I was shocked how quickly I got to the end.
Beth and Daniil's banter, Ember's complex nature and many other things made this story unforgettable.

I didn't like this book. The storyline was weird, borderline confusing & something felt off the throughout the whole book. It also felt rushed & unfinished. There was just way to much going on for such a short book.

So, I had a hard time getting into this one. I wasn't sure where it was going, and where it went wasn't bad. There was cute banter between Beth and Daniil, and it's a little funny that Daniil had the entire hotel "run out of alcohol" just because he and Beth had (accidental) unprotected sex. But it seemed like just when the story started getting going, it was over and I'm reading an epilogue. It was a cute story, but not sure I'm interested enough in the myriad secondary characters to continue. Maybe.

Also, not sure about future books in the series, but this one could have used a/another copy editor. Third page, she's talking about her "forth" pair of shoes. If the story hadn't gotten decent ratings, I might have given up at that point.

A very steamy way to bring in the cold New Year! I brassy reporter messes with the Russian mafia, and of course that means mind-blowing action! While I thought the beginning and ending were sort of jumbled, it had a good main plot, and I'm excited to see there's a #2 in this series to read more about these character!
