Karate: The Ultimate Guide to Beginning Karate

Rate this book
Version 3 just launched extra content with no increase in price Karate is a martial art developed on the Ryukyu Islands in what is now Okinawa, Japan. It developed from the indigenous martial arts of Ryukyu Islands (called te, literally "hand"; tii in Okinawan) under the influence of Chinese martial arts, particularly Fujian White Crane. Karate is now predominantly a striking art using punching, kicking, knee strikes, elbow strikes and open hand techniques such as knife-hands, spear-hands, and palm-heel strikes. Historically and in some modern styles grappling, throws, joint locks, restraints, and vital point strikes are also taught. A karate practitioner is called a karateka. Deciding to embark on a new hobby can be extremely daunting, perhaps even more so with something as physically demanding as a Martial Art. Needs editing. Second half much better than the first

The book started badly with numerous problems of grammar and spelling that simple editing would fix. The chapter on defense of self, though, provided some nice insights and made up for some of the early faults. Quick read.
