A juicy, high-stakes thriller about a dysfunctional family vying for money and power aboard a luxury yacht in the Mediterranean—until a dead body is found.
The Amalfi Coast is a dazzling backdrop for the day Rebecca Turner marries Preston Wexley, a groom who isn’t just handsome but also the heir apparent to the Wexley billion-dollar empire. Though the wealth and glamour are seductive, Rebecca is bracing herself for the sharp edges of Preston’s relatives—especially when their honeymoon, meant to be a romantic respite, turns into a full-blown family affair aboard a mega yacht, where the Wexleys gather in all their dysfunctional glory.
• Savannah, the steely matriarch, rules the family with an iron will, orchestrating the corporate succession while keeping her ex-husband and his pregnant trophy wife at arm’s length.
• Preston, the golden child, is desperate to secure his birthright, while his emotionally stunted older brother Brad scrambles for attention alongside his influencer girlfriend, who’s busy documenting the drama.
• Jacqueline, Preston’s ex-fiancée and a top executive at the Wexley enterprise, stirs the pot further as she plots her own rise.
• And then there’s Rebecca, the poised outsider, whose enigmatic past threatens to unravel the moment an unexpected guest arrives.
When a deckhand discovers a dead body, all the passengers are trapped on board the yacht as the Italian police launch an investigation. With everyone harboring secrets and selfish motivations, ambition and betrayal strain the fragile binds holding the group together revealing that when power and privilege collide, even family isn’t safe.
All I kept thinking when reading…. THIS SHOULD BE A MOVIE!
The way the author describes each character in the scenery, even without maybe even truly trying to describe them, I could envision everything! I caught myself reading in different accents, I could visualize what each character looked like, I could literally smell the air from the yacht.
This was a very well written book and I battled with myself until the end on who did what! The entanglement between every single character was awesome! It had me guessing till the very end.
I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to read more of her magic in the future!
Finished this one in a single day, and I LOVED the Amalfi coast murdery yacht vibes! Ten out of ten, highly recommend.
I don’t actually read thrillers that often, but this one hooked me right from the start. For anyone who’s a White Lotus fan, MY HUSBAND’S FAMILY starts with a similar hook: a dead body surfacing while rich people vacation, and the slow unraveling of all of their dark secrets until you finally learn the truth of what happened.
This is Kamen’s debut novel, but it reads like a writer who’s had a long time to hone their craft. The story structure jumps from present (dead body and the ensuing investigation) to past (all the events in the days leading up to it), and switches between a handful of character POVs. It sounds like a lot to follow, but it never is–the story flows so smoothly, and each chapter leaves you on a mini cliffhanger as you uncover more about each character’s secrets. I kept trying to figure out who was killed (and by whom), but the author does a fabulous job of withholding a few final twists until the very end.
One aspect that remained constant through all the POVs, was the unflinching commentary from each character. I LOVED the brutal honesty of each character voice, like you’re hearing all the thoughts everyone is too polite or scared to say out loud. There’s the newlywed bride on her supposed honeymoon that’s been hijacked by her uber-rich in-laws, including a mother-in-law she can’t stand who is helicoptering over her husband and monopolizing their honeymoon. Then, there’s the ex-fiance of the groom who pushed her way onto the honeymoon yacht trip but is being forced to babysit a drunk playboy in order to secure an all-important boardroom vote and steal the groom’s future company away from him. I can’t even list out all the POVs, but just know that you will get invested in each character’s voice and story.
"My Husband’s Family" serves up drama, murder, money, and mayhem with a wink. This is rich-people-behaving-badly at its most delicious, and Kamen’s prose kept me happily hooked from the first page. The writing is so vivid that you can practically feel the sea breeze on the yacht with Rebecca and Preston. Sure, the poor-girl-marries-rich-boy setup is familiar, but set it against the dazzling Amalfi Coast, add one very intense family, and suddenly it feels fresh, glamorous, and dangerously fun. There’s Savannah, the groom’s doting mother; Roger, the intimidating patriarch; Brad, the heir apparent; and Tavi, his influencer girlfriend, who brings her own kind of sparkle and chaos. Who would want to honeymoon with this crew? Rebecca definitely didn’t get much of a choice, and it turns out to be the ultimate newlywed stress test. As the tension climbs, murder starts to feel less like a shock and more like a question of who will snap first. And that twist? Loved it. I did not see it coming at all. If Succession had packed sunscreen, secrets, and a murder mystery, it might look something like this. Add this one to your list!
My Husband’s Family is a very enjoyable and well-written novel from a promising new author! If you like the thriller subgenre of “rich people behaving badly in an exotic location”, I highly encourage you to read it. There are many books and entertainment vehicles in this genre today, but Kristina Kamen’s novel is a notch above most. She has a sharp eye for societal expectations and constructs, which gives the story a deeper feeling. The novel is also told from multiple perspectives, which is common in this genre, but Kristina does a great job making each character feel distinctive, with different personalities, values, and goals. There are also several surprises throughout the book, including the ending, which I truly did not see coming! For a debut novel, I was quite impressed.
Overall, My Husband’s Family is a fresh take on the genre that I think many will enjoy. I’m already looking forward to Kristina’s next book!

Congratulations, #KristinaKamen, on this amazing debut novel! I'm predicting this to be a huge summer vacation hit next year. The second I read the synopsis, I immediately knew I had to read it and moved it to the top of my TBR. Well, it did not disappoint! For having such a large cast of characters, it was well-written and easy to follow, and the short chapters had me on the edge of my seat. That ending...let me tell you...I never saw that coming, like holy cow! Kristina will be an auto-read author for me, and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.
Preston and Rebecca just tied the knot, and they are surprised with a big family affair aboard a mega yacht sailing the beautiful Mediterranean. Two separate families, many of them competing for the same CEO position. What could possibly go wrong? Then, somebody dies. Was it an accident, or is everybody on the yacht a suspect? 4.5 stars!
I have a soft spot for mysteries that trap a group of deeply unlikeable people together and then let the tension do the heavy lifting.
My Husband’s Family is exactly that kind of read. Glamorous, escapist and packed with simmering family dynamics, it’s the sort of book that has you constantly reassessing who you trust… which, as it turns out, is absolutely nobody.
Kristina Kamen does a great job of balancing the mystery with the complicated relationships at the heart of the story. The setting is deliciously luxurious, but it’s the family politics, shifting loyalties and carefully buried secrets that kept me turning the pages.
It’s pacy, entertaining and exactly the kind of thriller I’d recommend for a holiday read.
If you enjoy books where wealth, privilege and family dysfunction collide, this one deserves a spot on your TBR.

MY HUSBAND'S FAMILY by Kristina Kamen is destined to be one of 2027's standout mysteries. Set aboard a luxury mega-yacht off Italy's breathtaking Amalfi Coast, this locked-room murder mystery is impossible to put down. Told through multiple POVs, Kamen creates a cast of highly complex characters, each of whom carries enough emotional baggage to be a believable suspect. The story draws its suspense from the kinds of misunderstandings, betrayals, and secrets that can exist in any family, creating razor-sharp tension. Kamen also boldly withholds whose body was found, leaving you guessing until the very end. And just when you think you've figured it out, she pulls the rug out from under you! Masterfully written and brimming with atmosphere, intrigue, and deliciously dysfunctional family drama, Kristina Kamen delivers a dazzling debut that locked-room mystery fans won't want to miss. I can't wait to see what she writes next!
You are cordially invited to the honeymoon of the century...fam.
Rebecca and Preston have just tied the knot, and what better way to spend their honeymoon than with... the entire family. (Ew) Not only does Rebecca have to endure her in-laws for a whole week while being cooped up on a mega yacht. She also gets to spend quality time with Preston’s ex-fiancée. (Double Ew) When a dead body suddenly shows up, it seems like everyone has some skeletons in their closet.
My Husband's Family was less of a "whodunit" and more like watching a psychological train wreck skirting into the station, full-bore. Kamen nailed the multiple POV's while forcing us to keep guessing whom we could trust. Smart and unhinged in the best way possible!
Publication Date : 3.30.2027 Thank you so much to Kristina Kamen and William Morrow for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was the perfect spring/summer read! My Husband’s Family was so entertaining with just enough twisty plot turns to hook you and then have it nicely wrapped up at the end. After her wedding in Ravello, the bride and groom are whisked off to a surprise week on the Amalfi coast on a yacht - but her husband’s whole family will be with them. While a week on a yacht near Capri sounds like a dream, secrets abound and nothing is as it seems. There are workaholics, an influencer, playboys, shrewd corporate investors, and an overbearing mother. The backstories and character development are so good! I really enjoyed the multiple POVs, the alternating timelines, and the short, succinct chapters that keep you reading more and more. In chapter 1 someone on the yacht is murdered and you will keep guessing who it was until very near the end. 4⭐️ - a very good debut read!
My Husband’s Family kept my interest from the beginning! It’s a fun easy read with suspense from the start making it hard to put the book down. The author does a good job of exploring the complexity and nuances of family relationships within marriage. Specifically when the bride and groom don’t come from the same socioeconomical background. The emotional tension and family dynamics are compelling with a good dose of humor. There are juicy character arcs that you don’t see coming along with some good plot twist at the end. It made me think of White Lotus and Knives Out. I enjoyed the tease of not knowing who was murdered until the very end. I’m ready for the next book!
From the very first chapter, I was hooked. The pacing kept me turning pages, and every time I thought I'd figured it out, another twist proved me wrong. This was a gripping thriller with plenty of twists, compelling characters, and a mystery that keeps you invested from beginning to end. The suspense builds at just the right pace, making it difficult to put down. If you enjoy murder mysteries that keep you guessing, this is definitely worth the read.
I was lucky enough to be a Beta reader for this book, and WOW! You have no idea what's in store for you when this book launches. It's one of those rare novels you'll devour in one sitting. From the first page, this author grabs the reader. Yes, it's a fabulous concept. Yes, there is an entire slew of characters to love and hate. Yes, it will keep you guessing until the very end. As a thriller writer and avid reader, I can say without hesitation that Kristina Kamen delivers on her debut! This book is a fast-paced, propulsive ride, and I enjoyed every second. Well done!
Thank you to the author for sending this over! I’ve read a lot of thrillers, so I tend to be hard to please. I loved this. Not only did I read it in a day, I was captivated by the depth of the characters balanced with the lightning fast pacing and the evocative setting. Kamen also manages to write 5 different POVs, all with distinct voices. Perfect for fans of The White Lotus and thriller authors like Ruth Ware and Lucy Foley.
From the very first chapter, I was completely hooked. Kristina weaves a phenomenal murder mystery with a captivating storyline and deeply interesting characters that kept me guessing until the final pages. It is an absolute page-turner that will keep you on your toes the entire time. If you love a mystery that genuinely surprises you, I highly suggest this book!
As a debut from this author, I was really surprised how much I loved it! At first, the trope seemed a little familiar. Succession on a yacht, basically. But you soon see that it’s not just “another one” of those tropes. This book really delivered! I found myself with a book hangover for several days and thinking about the characters long after.
So obsessed with this book!!! Could not put it down and literally had to finish it in a day. The plot is actually insane if you liked White Lotus - this is even better. Can’t wait for it to hit the shelves and for everyone to read it!!
My favorite type of novel to enjoy…rich people behaving badly! The characters are engaging, the plot is twisty and the Italian backdrop couldn’t be better! Kristina weaves a wickedly fun and surprising high seas drama, one I can’t wait to share when it officially releases!!
This book is so fun and so well written. A stunning debut! I loved the multiple POV. The setting is divine and the plot is twisty and delicious. A definite must-read for anyone who loves a locked-room mystery and an exotic and beautiful setting!
This book was fantastic. I will submit a full review closer to the publication date, but this thriller had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I was flipping pages faster than my eyes could read. What a remarkable premise and the writing just blew me away.
This book was a page turner! I read it in less than a week! I couldn’t put it down. Kristina made it feel like you were there on yatch yourself in the Mediterranean with lots of suspense to keep you not wanting to put the book down. Highly recommend!
The megarich are at their most conniving, and the Amalfi coast has never sparkled more than it does in Kristina Kamen thriller MY HUSBAND’S FAMILY. This carefully crafted story is a tour de force.
