Ambush #1

Tiger Born

Damian Ledger is his brother’s keeper. He’s been tasked with keeping an out-of-control tiger shifter away from trouble, but when his brother’s tiger targets a human, Damian knows that life just got way more complicated. Now he’s stuck between protecting his brother from himself and protecting a human woman he’s never met. Misty is gorgeous and driven, and completely naïve to the existence of creatures like him. He must stay in the shadows to avoid humans finding out about him and his brothers, but there is something about Misty that is dragging him into the light. He has to be perfectly diligent, and never allow his brother to see her again, but it is getting harder and harder to protect her when all Damian wants is to be with her.

Misty Antone was attacked years ago by something she still can’t explain. She has tried to tell everyone that tiger-people exist, but no one believes her. Now, after rebuilding her life, she gets a glimpse of the man who has visited her nightmares. He is asking her for help, but he has problems she didn’t even realize existed. How can she help someone who is not even human, and does not abide by human laws? A wise woman would steer way clear of a monster like Damian, but the more she gets to know him, the more she realizes he has been protecting her from a danger she doesn’t understand. She is falling hard for the tiger shifter, and breaking all the rules to be with him, but Fate has plans for them, and they are on a direct path to complete destruction of the Ledger brother’s legacy.

Don’t miss this push-and-pull action-adventure paranormal romance, and the first installment of T. S. Joyce’s brand-new Ambush series, where Cats live in the shadows, humans are unaware, and love could either destroy them completely, or set them free.

This was different. Not the usual PNR story from TS Joyce. Its darker and more violent than most of her other books. The writing/dialog is also a change. If I didn't know better, I would hesitate to say someone else wrote or co-wrote this. Something just feels off.

I liked it, but if I'm honest, I didn't love it.

This one was just ok for me. I didn't get the whole Tiger/Ambush/Brothers having issues thing. It was odd to me. Even how the one brother was "healed" was weird. I felt like I was slogging through the book as I read it and only finished it because it was the only book I had downloaded when I was out and about running errands. Might check out the next one, might now, it will depend on my mood when I see it comes out.

ok but not my favorite

This was a darker story than usual for Joyce. I liked the characters and it ended well, but I missed the joy found in her other books.

Save your mate or save your brother?

It's always a good sign when you want to read more about the characters in a series. I was all ready for book 2 before I realised that this is the first one in the Ambush series and only just came out this week smh.

The Ledger triplet boys were forced into being tiger shifters at 21 by their stepfather and have been battling with their tigers and all the rules with being cat shifters ever since. This traumatic turning is not detailed nor even fully discussed at any time in the story which is confusing because it's very integral to their now shifter existence.

Unfortunately, while Damian and Marsden eventually found a way to exist in harmony with their tigers, Stellan's tiger was always feral whenever it came out and refused to coexist peacefully within Stellan's body. Because the laws of the cats council demanded death for any shifter who revealed their existence to the human world or who killed a human, Damian (and Marsden occasionally) took on the protector role for years to try keep their brother and others safe from the uncontrollable tiger within Stellan.

One of the curses their tigers seemingly have no control over dealing with is finding their "rabbit" - essentially the prime prey that they compulsively must stalk, hunt and kill. Enter Misty Antone, the nurse who Stellan's tiger decided was his rabbit and who unknowingly is clearly Damian's fated mate. This introduces the primary and an even more terrifying conflict among the brothers because how can Damian keep Misty safe without losing his brother?

Adding to the challenges they were facing, it seems cat shifters were told it was essentially forbidden for them to have a mate and a human one especially (something about genetic incompatibility and extremely high infant mortality rates). But then Marsden reacts disappointedly about Damian marking his mate claim on Misty and later mentions that should Stellan ends Misty's life, Damian would also die. So there's obviously some existing lore within their shifter culture about mating that is acceptable. This is the other confusing plot point.

The rhythm of this story was a lil weird to me and I had to agree with the MCs when they said they were doing this whole possible relationship thing backwards. Felt it took way too long for Damian to explain the importance of the whole rabbit hunt to Misty and what being his mate actually meant, the latter still wasn't clearly revealed by the end of the book. But even with these major background details incomplete, the concept of this series is intriguing enough to want to find out what happens to Marsden and Stellan when they find their mates and the consequences they all would face with the cat shifter laws.

Tiger Born begins the Ambush series with an intense introduction to the Ledger brothers’ lives and the most abusive thing that could have been done to these triplets… who are still paying the consequences for that action. This one is T. S. Joyce at her best, and yet another reason I will always pick up her next book.

Damian (Dame) has been in protective mode for far, far too long. He’s not only trying to protect his brother, but the woman his brother has in his sights. He’s tired, so tired. And the next time his brother goes on the hunt, Dame is injured enough to expose himself to the human he’s trying to keep safe.

Misty knows what attacked her years ago. No one except her uncle believed her, so she’s lived with her family and friends believing she was crazy as a bat. But tonight everything changed when she faced that same “thing” again, only this time there was someone else there who saw and was wounded and begging for her help. She had no idea that fate also awaited her that night, or that she was about to entwine her life with three brothers who had faced down evil… and were still fighting.

I loved everything about Tiger Born. Dame is fierce, yet tender with Misty. He has so much on his shoulders; he truly is his brother’s keeper. He’s done everything he can think of to keep Misty safe; perhaps she’s safest with him. Misty may be tiny, but she’s a ball of fire when protecting Dame. She’s strong and far braver than she gives herself credit for. Together, they will fight not only for their own future, but his brother’s as well. Their story is well-written (never a surprise with this author), emotional, intriguing, and passionate. The danger is very real, but so are the bonds being formed, both seen and unseen. If any of that sounds like your kind of Shifter/Paranormal Romance, then you’d love Misty and Dame’s story.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.

This is definitely on the darker side of her world building. The main story here is about three tiger brothers. They were turned against their will, and one of them, Stellan, has never been quite right since. Basically the animal inside him is a psychopath and has picked a human to stalk and hunt, and his brother Damian has spent the last five years being his keeper and preventing him from murdering anyone so he won’t have to be put down. Unfortunately, they all know it’s an inevitability. His animal is rotten.
Then we get chapters from the woman who is his prey. The woman who was attacked by tiger men years ago and always felt stalked and moved her entire life to feel safer. The PTSD doesn’t really play out on page, but we’re told she has it. You can pretty much tell from the rundown this is going to be more violent and thriller oriented than the usual fluffy romances.
It did give the story more depth, and you really felt for Damien in the situation because he’s up against so many forces and there’s literally no way to get a good outcome from the situation.
I did think some of the spicy scenes were very oddly placed and the character’s personalities do a complete shift as soon as they’re naked. I did enjoy the story and characters in here though.

It was an emotional story for the Ledger brothers

The book Tiger Born is different from TS Joyce’s other PNR shifter books. It took a minute for me to appreciate the story because the romance is second to the conflict between the brothers: Stellan, Mars, and Dame. There are other cats in existence that are referenced but in this world they have to stay hidden from humans. The epilogue sums up the goal for this new series.

This story is about three brothers, triplets, who were turned into tigers. They did not consent and from what I could glean from the partial history provided, one brother’s tiger and man were not okay. The other two brothers Mars and Dame have been trying to help. But the one brother Dame, he has made it his life to protect his brother Stellan from himself and the tiger. This book is the first in the series. Read On!

Tiger Born

It turns out tiger shifters are quite different than other shifters. They really can't stand to be around each other much so their community (“ambush”) doesn't even live by each other. I'm curious to see how this series unfolds since this is a definite variation in this author's usual work.

I loved the dust mote conversation - that whole scene was really well done. I also appreciated the scene when they get back together after three weeks.

“I have fifty messages in the notes of my phone that I wished I could send you,” he gritted out. “You can have them all…. You can read exactly how much I craved coming back to you.”

Among all the red flags, there is some evidence he is telling the truth. In the end, standing up for her is standing up for himself, and I liked that.

A Real Ambush

T.S. Joyce does not write a bad PNR. Tiger Born is Book 1 in the Ambush series and as only Joyce can do, readers are introduced to a new shifter world of brothers, hunts, pain, loyalty, and love. As cats tend to be solidary creatures, packs are stifling. But, when a scent brings out the best and worst in three tiger brothers, rules change. Brothers are tested beyond their endurance. Humans, especially one mate, unwittingly pits brother against brother. The only question is how will it end. This is a skin rip journey that threatens to destroy any involve. The rip is not skin deep. It is soul deep leaving behind scars and wounds caused by the unthinkable. Yet, the three brothers and one mate must find a way to heal or suffer the ultimate consequences.

Awesome New Series

Love this new series and in typical TS Joyce fashion the story grips you from the beginning. Misty is a nurse who suffered and lived through a tiger attack. Only no one really believed it was a tiger. And then she met Dame. He protected her and was seriously torn up. That's when she learned tiger shifters existed and Dame's brother's tiger was trying to kill her. Triplets were turned but Stellen was the only brother who couldn't control his tiger. From page one you get drawn into their story. It's an excellent book and well worth reading.

excellent

GAH GAH GAH…
Book started off with those words so closely together I was wondering what was happening.
WOW, it turned into an amazing book! It really was unlike any of her other books.
This was an action packed, suspenseful, fast paced book.
The love story was emotional, and so intense.
This was truly one of T S Joyce’s best books.
Looking forward to the series.

Let's go

Really an amazing book, the author she's one of my favorites and I have top 10 and I got more Arthur's than that that I really follow but the 10 she's one of them and you know I'm never disappointed. She is fantastic. I don't even all I have to do is see her name and if I don't have the book I get it because she's that good and she takes you to places and things you laugh. You cry you get hysterical. I mean it's just everything and I appreciate you. I really do. Thank you

I haven't enjoyed this series as much as the others like it. I am not sure why, there is plenty here to be involved with, a hunky bloke who is a triplet and has to look after his brother who went feral after being turned. Misty is the one his brother is after, (Stellan) but Damian prevents him and falls in love with her. They end up together and manage to bring Stellan back from the edge in to being able to deal with his tiger.

Oh boy are these Tigers intense! I love these boys already!

I can already tell when we get to Stellan‘a story tears are going to flow!

Damian and Misty work and boy is she funny! I love their dynamic and how they communicate (with some work) is super witty and then it’s just right!

The love is there and boy it’s soul deep!

Loved it!

New charactor, new problems, new feelings

The same author but different story. I like where this is going. I want more which is great but give me a longer details one. I know, i know we have more brothers to go. Tid bits of potential stories so i am excited.

Few twists and can see the next will be even better

Great beginning with Tiger Born

Dame carries the responsibility for keeping his brother from needless killing. The cost is having no personal life. When Misty becomes the target of his brother, he has no idea of the chain of events they will all face.
This is a good story and I'm already looking forward to the next book in this series.

Three tigers navigating the world and one chasing a rabbit. Will he or won’t he get her or will someone else get there first! Can’t wait to see what’s next for this crew.

WOW 🙀 just wow

What an excellent story, Joyce does it again by spending a tail (yes a pun) about tiger-born men and control and love and depression and despair and Hope highly recommend as always

I'm always sad when one series is over, but it's also always exciting when TS brings us into a new one with new characters and rules. This one is about Tiger shifters, and it was great. There are different rules for these shifters, and it's going to be fun to get to know these new characters.

All you need is love

Seems like all he needed was love and the rabbit was no more! Love in the form of not shooting him and healing him! She found family and her love. He got his brothers back and his mate.

Interesting start to this series, although I found it difficult to bring the two MCs together. I guess the slight disconnect ties in with the story of cats being loners. I love this author's books, this just doesn't hit quite as much as her book normally do for me.
