Noelle’s two great passions are murder and horses (separately, never together).
She lives in Idaho with her husband, two sons, and two cats. When she's not plotting her next thriller, she's scaring herself with true-crime documentaries or going for a trail ride in the foothills (with her trusty pepper spray).
Wow, I loved this book so much! Hands down one of my favorite reads of the year! It was so different from the typical thrillers out there, and yet it had all the juicy elements that I love and was so satisfying at the end! I was grabbing my kindle to read this every chance I got... it was very hard to put down and I found myself thinking about it when I wasn't reading! I'm not ashamed to say it also made me shed a few tears! Highly recommend!
Another ghost story where I had to lay my skepticism to rest. I might even start to look for books with a supernatural angle.
This was a superb thriller. Three girls being killed by the same man, haunted by it and wanting revenge. What really impressed me, was how emotional the story was. I felt the pain of them seeing their loved ones, not able to do anything to stop the killer. They all had very distinct personalities and I liked them all.
This was such a cool concept for a book. In all of the time that I've been reading thrillers, I honestly don't think I've ever read anything like this before.
╰⪼ I think part of the extra enjoyment was that I didn't read the blurb going into this one- I just saw that a few of my friends loved it. That it was a thriller and I liked the cover. Oh, and it's a quick one - just under 300 pages.
I was immediately pulled into the story as we follow three victims of the match strike killer as they tell us their stories after their murders. This match strike killer is just going around plucking off random women he meets on a popular dating app and no one seems to be the wiser.
Imagine if your victims were haunting you from beyond and helping the police without you knowing it? Tick tock mf. LOL. Revenge is so sweet.
I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engaged for the most part. I had just a couple of issues with the alternating POVs - there was three of them and I had a hard time remembering who was who and who I was hearing from as the chapters changed.
I also felt that the timeline was a little confusing considering we are thrust right into the thick of it. Once I got my bearings though it was off to the races.
Meghan, Skye and Brecia are such fierce and strong female characters while still remaining compassionate and empathetic - loved them.
Fun thriller! My biggest complaint was the three girl's voices sounded identical, and it was difficult to tell them apart. Other than that, it was a very engaging and quick read.
Honda Civic Reliable 3.5 rounded up for the unique premise
One sentence review: An interesting social commentary take on haunting
SYNOPSIS
Three women. Three victims of a serial killer who finds his victim on a dating app. When they meet in the after life, they're determined to find a way to stop him from killing again.
MY OPINION
Thank you so much @rebby.reads for my gifted copy. Without her rec, I definitely wouldn't have picked this up. No shade, I'm just not into ghost stories.
It's always a good sign when I have limited notes as I'm reading LOL. The more notes = the saltier the review. This book is EXTREMELY bingeable. At 260ish pages, I devoured it in one sitting in my "reading sleigh". Unlike Hidden Pictures and Ghost Eaters, Ihli takes the time to – in a natural way – explain the abilities and limitations of the ghost powers. By doing so, I could focus on the plot instead of wondering why the ghostie didn't do xyz. Tbh Ihli did a fantastic job of addressing any potential plot holes and answering questions the reader might have. This was a HUGE plus as a reader who is always asking qs like the nosey hoe I am.
As I said in my one sentence review, this was a social commentary take on haunting. It explored the challenges and dangers of being a woman in the modern dating scene. Hindsight truly is 20/20. It's a good reminder to check yourself before victim blaming. Sometimes I think back on my college days and I thank my lucky stars I'm not dead in a ditch. Just something as simple as walking home from class with my headphones on could've ended me up in the back of a trunk. Scary tings. Anyways.
It was also a creative way to show how "normal" abusers can be. It's not the scary strangers in the bushes. It's the charming guy who opened the passenger side car door for you. It's the married man with the picture-perfect family and doting wife. And all of this makes sussing out the baddies even harder for a woman who just wants to enjoy her night without a cloak of paranoia.
I also liked the inclusion of the detectives. Again, another great display of how misogyny can be the difference between a family getting answers or forever wondering if their daughter really just dipped on them.
My main rich homie qualm was some parts dragged. The synopsis says the three girls link up, but this doesn't occur until the 60% mark. You spend a lot of time with each girl as they figure out their after life status and what they should do. This was interesting... to a point. The book is pretty short but I would've liked to spend more time with the girl gang.
All in all, an interesting and easy-to-devour read. The writing was straightforward. No turgid prose here. Another plus for me.
PROS AND CONS
Pros: interesting premise, straight forward no fluff writing, pander-free social commentary
Cons: dragged a bit in the second half - I would've liked more time with the girls together
Haunting-but in more of a heartbreaking way than in the spooky, supernatural way that I was expecting! And, a book with a message.
Who wouldn’t trust a guy who looked like Chris Hemsworth, drove a blue Kia Sorrento, and drank hot chocolate?
For the women who joined the dating APP, “Matchstrike” hoping to find THE ONE, finding him seemed as lucky, and as unlikely, as finding a “needle in a haystack”.
But, for Brecia, Meghan and Skye, getting fooled by him would lead to their deaths.
We hear firsthand from these anguished ghosts, who cannot rest, about their encounters with him, and about their wait for justice.
Luckily one had a Detective who refused to give up-instead of one who was burned out and indifferent.
And, luckily another woman had these three souls looking out for her.
The tension was palpable in the second half-and you will shed a tear-
BUT you will also cheer!
🆘 There is an actual movement becoming popular in bars “Ask for Angela” for women who feel threatened! I hope that more bars become aware of the phrase, and choose to help!
There is even an epilogue called “The River” which I was able to download for free when I subscribed to the author’s mailing list.
An EMOTIONAL STORY that made for a great buddy read with Ceecee, Susan, DeAnn, Mary Beth and MarilynW.
I think I’m in the minority but I did not like this one. The story of three young women that are killed by a serial killer. The story follows the ghosts of the women that are trying to make sure their killer is convicted. I found the storyline predictable and slow.
I really don’t know how this book has a 4+ rating. The story was so basic and not thrilling at all. The characters were all over the place resharing their stories and it was pretty repetitive at times.
This dark, unique, and chilling supernatural ride is guaranteed to give you nightmares—and it’ll linger in your mind long after you’ve turned the last page!
Picture this: three seemingly unconnected young women— Meghan, who recently matched with a Chris Hemsworth lookalike on a dating app, only for her exciting date to spiral into a nightmare she never saw coming. Brecia, who ghosted a guy after getting a bad feeling and receiving a torrent of abusive text messages—only to hear someone whisper her name from the shadows outside her house. And Skye, a hopeful college freshman and part-time barista crushing on a mysterious (and hot) older customer—unaware that her life is about to take a deadly turn.
The thread that ties these women together? They’re all dead. And worse? They were all murdered by the same despicable man.
His name is James Carson—a monster hiding in plain sight. He uses fake names and photos on a dating app called Matchstick to lure unsuspecting women. He’s a married man with two sweet daughters, living a double life as a charming predator. Meghan and Brecia met him through the app. Skye was just tragically unlucky. But he’s not done. He’s still hunting. Still matching. Still planning his next move.
As Brecia’s ghost lingers in the home where James is living with his family, Meghan haunts Domanska—the determined officer who discovered her remains in the woods. And Skye’s spirit watches from the shadows as her divorced parents unravel while trying to uncover the truth about their missing daughter.
Now, these three women must join forces from beyond the grave. Their killer is still out there—and worse, he may be turning his attention toward his own family. The clock is ticking, and their souls won’t rest until they’ve exposed the truth and brought him to justice.
Can they stop him before he claims more lives? Can the dead finally speak loud enough to be heard?
Overall: This is a gripping, wildly creative, disturbing, and utterly unforgettable blend of psychological suspense and paranormal horror. I highly recommend adding this twisted thriller to your radar—it’s one of those stories that grabs you and refuses to let go. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
Huge thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for providing me with a digital review copy of this brilliant thriller in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Ask for Andrea is a unique plot following the aftermath of three girls who are k!lled by a scumbag Serial K!ller. This one had my attention from the get go, because its not like anything i have read before. This is not your typical thriller and read more like a character driven read. Monsters don't always appear scary. They can be handsome, charming and very convincing. This book really highlighted how women can easily find themselves in danger to no fault of their own, and raises deep thoughts on what we can do to make ourselves more vigilant and aware in romantic settings.
⋆。°✩ WHAT I LIKED ⋆。°✩ ➽ The even pace of the book was great ➽ Short Chapters ➽ The Trio perspectives ➽ The tension and anxiety was executed well ➽ Had me all in my feels! ➽ No over exaggeration and implausible actions. ➽ Satisfied ending
⋆。°✩ WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ⋆。°✩ ➽ It took a long time for the girls to all meet. ➽ The naivety of the wife to all of a sudden having an epiphany, was half believable to me.
All in all i really enjoyed this book and will continue with reading this authors backlist.

Having read Run on Red and Gray after Dark by this author I loved both! I obviously now need to complete her backlist right!? The blurb on this one… 😮💨😮💨
✎𓂃“On a date that isn’t going well? Ask for Andrea at the bar. We’ll make sure you get home safe.”
☆What to Expect: Ask for Andrea is a fast-paced ghost thriller, but it’s not your average ghost story. Three young girls find themselves on a mission to catch the MatchStrike Killer (this story’s version of a dating app). The only problem is that they were all senselessly murdered by this man, and need to figure out the limits of their capabilities as ghosts. In a race against time and multiple states, Brecia, Meghan, and Skye must stop him before he takes any more lives, and anyone is fair game.
Trigger Warnings: Murder, rape, descriptions of bodily decomposition, possibility of the murder of children, date rape drugs, serial killer.
☆My Thoughts: I desperately was in need of a quick thriller after wasting weeks of my life on a terrible series reread (Note for all: don’t be like me. DNF any book that doesn’t seem worth it!!). I’ve been eyeing this book every time it pops up in my KU feed, and finally took the plunge after seeing its high rating. It did not disappoint.
Ask for Andrea cycles between the first-person POV of each of the ghosts: Brecia, Meghan, and Skye, from their initial deaths, to their discovery of their ghostly abilities, and to the very final outcome. Each chapter is short–no more than maybe 5 minutes–making this an extremely digestible novel (minus, obviously, the unsavory parts).
This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, needing to know how the killer would be caught. Overall, I enjoyed the 3 person POV approach, being in the minds of each of the ghosts, as it felt like a fresher take on the typical murder mystery. Seeing how each character went about their hauntings was interesting and heightened the need for revenge and justice. My biggest issue was that each character’s voice unfortunately read the exact same, which made it harder to separate one girl from the next. While each POV is labeled at the start of the chapter, I often found myself going back to see who was actually speaking.
I would, however, recommend this story for anyone in need of an exciting thriller–something to break up reading monotony or to eliminate a slump.
✎𓂃“There were foxes, and there were hounds. And then there were the animals who didn’t fit into the natural order of things at all. Who meant the hurt they caused every time.”
I am not a DNF person but this book almost turned me into one. Not sure how this is considered a thriller. Not a single plot twist was had. We are told from the very beginning what happened and who the killer is. The rest of the book is 3 ghosts who “haunt” the killer for years and try to save other girls but it doesn’t work. They can’t do anything or change outcomes. It’s incredibly BORING. The book switches between the 3 girls POV but since their stories are all so similar, it all runs together and feels like one long boring story.
Not even joking, this book pulled me out of my reading slump like it was nothing 😆🫡 The suspense?? The tension?? The plot??? Chef’s kiss.
It follows the POVs of three girls who were murdered by the same man (yeah, wild), and the way the story unfolds had me flipping pages like my life depended on it. By the time I hit 80% I was STRESSED. OUT. 😩 Like pls let them be okay omg—
And that ending?? Dayummmm 😭 that was TOO CLOSE.
This is my second book from this author and yep—she’s officially a fave. No notes. Just vibes. 👀🩵
If you’re into psychological thrillers that mess with your head in the best way possible, go read this 🙂↕️📚🫶

Here’s to hoping this book pulls me out of my slump 🩵🙇♀️
This book didn’t just pull me in… it practically grabbed me by the throat and refused to let go. ⚠️😳📚
Ask for Andrea was my first book by Noelle W. Ihli and now I completely understand the hype. This wasn’t just a thriller… it was an EXPERIENCE. The kind that makes your pulse race, your stomach knot up, and your brain scream “just one more chapter” at 1 a.m. 😵💫🔥
The audiobook narration? PHENOMENAL. 🎧👏 It made everything feel even more real and immersive. I was completely locked in from beginning to end.
This story is creepy because it feels like it could happen. The fear is real. The danger is real. The tension sits in your chest like a weight and never fully lets up. There were moments I actually caught myself holding my breath. 😮💨 The suspense isn’t about who the killer is… it’s about whether he’ll finally be stopped before more lives are destroyed. And THAT made this absolutely impossible to put down. 🔥
And underneath all the twists, anxiety, and heart-pounding moments is something even more powerful... a story about women, vulnerability, friendship, survival, and being heard when the world too often looks away. 💔🖤
This book made me angry, emotional, anxious, heartbroken, and hopeful all at once. It’s twisted, haunting, binge-worthy, and beautifully written. Some thrillers entertain you… this one gets under your skin. 😳

If you love: 🔪 Serial killer thrillers 🖤 Multiple POVs 😱 Edge-of-your-seat suspense 🎧 Addictive audiobooks 🔥 Books that make you feel stressed in the best way
…you NEED this book.
This is one of those thrillers that reminds you exactly why you love the genre in the first place. Dark, emotional, intense, and unforgettable. 🚨📖🔥
Chilling, haunting, dark, gripping, thrilling, shocking, and hard to put down, Noelle W. Ihli delivered with Ask for Andrea! I had a hard time putting this book down and felt for Meghan, Brecia, and Skye who were all murdered by a man they each met online. It all began with a dating website where the women were legitimately looking to meet someone, and he was hunting. He described himself as being a charming and charismatic bachelor. He lied; he is a cold-blooded killer!
This book is uniquely told from the viewpoints of the three murdered women, Meghan, Brecia, and Skye. They find each other after their horrific murders and ban together, waiting, watching, observing, and trying to warn the living of the deranged man who took their lives. I rooted for the living including family members who want answers and Detective Domanski. I had my fingers crossed the entire time that justice would be served.
This was such a compelling, fast paced page turner that had me reading deep into the night. I felt for the women and how their lives were tragically cut short by a vicious killer. Their POVs were harrowing and emotion evoking. I loved the tension, the dread, the mounting danger, and the emotions that this captivating book evoked.
I was glued to the pages of this well written, well thought out, and riveting book.
4.5 stars
Thank you to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
A unique twist on a haunting! This book was so fun! I flew through it! I loved the premise and the writing style. I like the alternating chapters with the different girls.
James Carson hunts for his victims online pretending to be the perfect guy. He would wine and dine them and then kill them on their first date. He murdered three women so far. What’s stopping him from continuing? The three women he murdered.
Brecia, Meghan, and Skye found each other and together they plan on stopping James from killing again.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Oh. My. God! A supernatural revenge thriller that was both poignant and chilling, Ask for Andrea filled me with just as much dread as it did tearful reflection. A moving new take on a serial killer premise, the three incisive POVs and eerie connecting plot lines delivered a blindingly brilliant novel. You see, not only did it entertain with unbridled suspense and deep-seated foreboding, but it made me actually cry as I thought back on who I’d want a visit from if they’re watching from the other side. Making me desperately hope that this insanely talent author’s imaginings are really true, I easily felt the deep wells of emotion and I’m sure that you will as well when you read this one too. Heartbreaking, thrilling, and beyond realistic, I’ve just become a brand-spanking-new fan of Ms. Noelle Ihli and her maestro-like, out-of-this-world story-crafting skills.
All said and done, from the cheer-worthy narrators to the evil-personified villain, I couldn’t put this short, addictive read down for even a minute. From the gripping first few scenes, which had my heart in my throat, to the taut, adrenaline-fueled climax, it was only the tear-jerker ending that managed to outshine the rest of the novel. Thought-provoking but also perfectly plotted, it wrapped everything up just as I would have wanted. So imagine my surprise when I discovered that Ms. Ihli had written a follow-up short story. Completing the storyline in the best possible way, I didn’t know I was missing April’s full life story as much as I was. So when you grab this one (because you absolutely must), don’t forget to read it as well. After all, this was one of the best books that I’ve ever read and it earned every one of its stars. Rating of 5+ stars.
SYNOPSIS:
He hunted them online, masquerading as an eligible bachelor. Then he played the perfect gentleman, a thick layer of charm and a thousand-watt smile hiding the fact that his first dates end in shallow graves.
He’s gotten away with murder three times now. The only thing that might keep him from killing again? The women he murdered.
Meghan, Brecia, and Skye might be dead, but they’re not gone. They’ve found each other. And they won’t rest until they find a way to stop him.

PUB DATE: October 28, 2025
Content warning: strangulation, sexual assault, domestic abuse
WARNING! Avoid dating site MatchStrike like the plague … you have been warned, ignore at your peril. Why I hear you cry? Well, you might just match up with James Carson. Yes, he has the looks of the Chris Hemsworth but those handsome features below a dark and wicked soul. Just ask Megan in Utah, Brecia in Colorado and Skye in Idaho, they’ll tell you the truth about this wolf in sheep’s clothing. This is their story.
The concept of this novel is really good, it’s different and a perfect late October read. It’s ghostly, terrifying, has tension by the truckload, it’s full of fear and trepidation. Towards the end a horrifying game of cat and mouse ensues which has me on the edge of my seat with accompanying tension that you could cut with a knife. You cheer on Detective Domanski, you need her on your investigative side but not Detective Kittleson who should be consigned to the cop scrapheap.
It’s very well written, I love the dark tone, some of the ideas that the author puts forward are thoughtful and it’s written with no necessary frills just good straightforward storytelling with the end result being a darned good dark thriller.
This is an author who is new to me, if this is typical of her work, count me in. I’ll try and read her back catalogue whenever I can. This was a buddy read with Jayme, Susan,Mary Beth, DeAnn and Marilyn. Great choice for a late October read.
I went into this book knowing absolutely nothing about what to expect and I honestly think that just aided in my love and investment in this book. I was not at al disappointed!! This story was so unique and genuinely one of the better thrillers I've ever read.
Right from the very beginning, this book throws you into the deep end and I was hooked before I knew it. I was about to read this in under 12 hours it was that fast and that good. I really enjoyed the easy to understand concept and the bingeable aspect that you just can't help but fall into! I will say, though, that this book is very shallow in terms of characters. We don't really get much on them as this book focuses more on the present plot. I didn't mind in all honesty because I don't think this book really needed it. It was investing enough as it was.
Overall, this delivered everything I hoped it would. It was gripping and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Pretty much everything I look for in a good thriller! I can't wait to read some more of the authors works. I think she will quickly become one of my favorite thriller authors. 🤭

One of my bookish New Year's resolution is to start using my kindle more and I've had this for ages!! The concept sounds really cool so I hope it delivers 🤞🏼
I still can not stop thinking about this book and my feelings feel the same way as I did right when I finished it.
This isn't your typical thriller because overall the book is in the perspectives of the women who were killed by a serial killer. But the catch is after they die, they haunt their killer. It is such a unique twist because you follow the women's efforts to try and stop James from killing the next girl, but all in ghost form. Once Brecia, Meghan, and Skye find each other, they make it their ultimate goal to have justice be served. As you see them watch multiple sides of what happens after death through the police, their families, and James lives you feel their sadness but also hope. Throughout the story, you feel as though you are a ghost there alongside them! I truly loved this book and my only complaint is I feel Skye's justice was a bit rushed and squeezed in at the end. Overall, it has become one of my favorites that I wish I could sell my soul to read it for the first time again!
Holy Shooty Balls!!! Chilling, haunting and absolutely unputdownable!
This book completely blew me away. Ask for Andrea by Noelle W. Ihli had me hooked from start to finish, and I could not tear myself away. Every chapter hit with intensity, emotion, and that heart-pounding urgency that kept me reading late into the night. There’s a quiet, justice-fuelled edge running through this story that made it all the more powerful.
💥 Key Thoughts 📖 Short, addictive chapters made it impossible to stop as one more quickly turned into finishing the whole thing in a day. 😳 The scenes from Meghan, Brecia, and Skye’s perspectives were gut-wrenching and haunting, their stories filled with fear, loss, and strength. 💭 I felt deeply for the women and for those searching for answers, and I was completely invested in every moment. 🎯 The tension built perfectly toward a chilling and satisfying ending that had me holding my breath, hoping justice would finally be served. 🧠 Told through the unique lens of the victims, the structure was powerful, emotional, and completely unforgettable.
This standout ghostly revenge thriller completely wowed me, left me glued to the pages, and reminded me why I love reading.
Thank you to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for the digital copy.
Ask for Andrea written by Noelle W. Ihli is a supernatural-type revenge thriller told through three POVs. Our narrators are from three women (already dead) who were killed by the same man. These three women may be dead … but their story is not!
This peculiarly written book has its own quaint charm and mildly suspenseful scenarios. In my opinion this was not a thrilling story, but a “must be told” story. Sort of like an adventure story where the underdogs win!
👉The three narrators are our three dead women: Brecia (confident and guarded), Skye (anxious, observant) and Meghan (compassionate and empathetic). All three of them are seemingly trapped where they were murdered and as they discover each other, they begin to work together to try and stop their murderer before he kills again. A sort of “haunting”, if you will. 😳
The story is not short of tension and frustrating situations, but it does a good job of presenting a one of a kind supernatural take on a murder story. ☠️
⭐️My take aways⭐️ 1. I love that “Ask For Andrea” at the bar is an actual REAL thing. This is such an amazing concept and should be instituted everywhere (thanks to gf @Liana for this update!) 2. The way the “spirit life or afterlife” was portrayed was a bit sticky for me. I like to believe my people who are in heaven can visit me at all times. This brings me peace. ❤️ 3. I love the way the girls were strong and found ways to work together and unite their strength even after death! 4. “Anything is possible!” Something that is evident in the novel and a motto I use in my every day life! Love this!
okay, can we talk about how different this one was?! because i went into ask for andrea knowing i was getting a thriller, but i wasn’t quite prepared for the direction noelle w. ihli decided to take it in. three women, one killer, and a story that begins after their lives have already been taken from them? immediately, i’m listening. there was something so unsettling about knowing these women had already experienced the worst thing imaginable, yet their stories weren’t finished. and honestly, i think that was my favourite thing about the entire concept. we spend so much time reading about victims in thrillers as though their stories end when the killer gets what he wants, but here, the girls get to have a say. they may have lost their lives, but they haven’t lost their voices. and i really, really liked that. ♡
❁ the girls who deserved better
meghan, skye and brecia were the heart of this book for me, and i found myself rooting for them in a way that made some of the darker moments hit that little bit harder. they’re different women with different personalities, experiences and reasons for being unable to move on, but they’re all connected by something absolutely horrific. i loved that they weren’t reduced to simply being victims of the same man. they had their own lives, their own fears, their own people and their own unfinished business. there was something heartbreaking about getting to know them when you already knew how their stories had ended, because every little glimpse of the women they were before their deaths came with that awful reminder of what had been taken from them. they deserved so much more than the endings they were given. and perhaps that’s why i wanted their stories to have a little more room to breathe. 🥹
ꕤ a concept that deserves its flowers
one thing i can absolutely give this book is that the premise genuinely stood out to me. i’ve read plenty of thrillers involving serial killers, dangerous men and women finding themselves in terrifying situations, but having the story told through the eyes of the women he has already murdered gave it a completely different feel. instead of simply watching a killer evade justice, we’re following the people he thought he had silenced. there’s something incredibly satisfying about that idea, especially when you consider how easily he manages to present himself as someone completely different to the person he really is. it also made the dating app aspect particularly uncomfortable to read about, because the danger isn’t presented as some far-fetched, larger-than-life evil. it’s wrapped up in the kind of ordinary interactions that can make somebody seem trustworthy. and that was what made the whole thing feel so much more disturbing to me. 🕯️
❁ the mystery had me curious
i was definitely invested in finding out how everything was going to come together, and there were moments when i found myself wanting to keep reading just to see what would happen next. i love that feeling when a book has you hovering over the next page because you need to know whether your suspicions are right, and this one gave me little glimpses of that excitement. i was curious about the girls, their connections and how their individual stories would eventually fit into the bigger picture. there was always the knowledge that something terrible had happened, but also the hope that their deaths wouldn’t be the final word on what happened to them. that combination kept me interested, even when the pacing wasn’t always doing what i wanted it to do. i wouldn’t say this had me completely on the edge of my seat from beginning to end, but the curiosity was definitely there, and i wanted to see these women get the chance to fight back in whatever way they could. ♡
ꕤ a little pacing problem, i’m afraid
now, this is where my feelings get a little complicated. for a book with such an intriguing premise, i did find that certain sections dragged more than i expected them to. i wanted that constant feeling of danger, that creeping sense that something was about to happen, and while there were definitely moments that delivered, the tension wasn’t consistent enough for me to be completely swept away. there were stretches where i felt like the story was taking its time getting somewhere, and i caught myself waiting for things to pick up again. which is a shame, because the concept had so much potential to keep me completely hooked. i didn’t dislike the slower sections, exactly, but i think i needed them to give me a little more in return for the time they took. sometimes i was fully invested, and other times i was very much reading along and waiting for that next moment to pull me back in. a very mixed little reading experience, honestly. 🫣
❁ three girls, three stories, one slightly confused reader
i also had a bit of trouble keeping track of the different perspectives. having three narrators can be such a brilliant way to tell a story, particularly when each character brings something different to the table, but i didn’t always find it easy to keep everybody straight in my head. i wanted to feel completely connected to each girl’s individual journey, and occasionally the switching between them made that harder than it needed to be. i think this is one of those situations where the structure is a great idea in theory, but it didn’t always work as smoothly for me as i’d hoped. i could appreciate what the author was trying to achieve without necessarily feeling that every part of the execution landed. and with a story where the characters are such an important part of the emotional impact, i did wish i’d felt a stronger connection to their individual voices throughout. i cared about them collectively, but i wanted that extra something that would make each of them unforgettable in her own right. ♡
ꕤ the emotional side of it all
something i appreciated was that beneath the murder mystery and supernatural elements, there’s a much more serious story about the women who are left behind, the lives that are interrupted and the people who never get the chance to understand what really happened. it’s easy to get caught up in the question of who did it, how they’ll be caught and whether the ending will deliver, but this book also made me think about how much of a person’s story can be lost when they’re no longer around to tell it themselves. i liked that the girls weren’t simply there to make the mystery more interesting. their perspectives gave the story a different emotional weight, and i found the idea of them trying to make a difference after death genuinely compelling. i just wish the book had spent a little more time allowing those emotional moments to settle before moving on to the next thing. there was so much here that could have made me feel even more connected to the characters, and i think that was one of the biggest things missing for me. 🥀
❁ not quite the thrill ride i expected
i think i was hoping for something that would leave me feeling a little more breathless by the end. the ingredients were absolutely there: a dangerous killer, three women with unfinished business, an unsettling supernatural twist and the possibility of stopping him before another woman suffers the same fate. that’s the kind of setup that makes me want to devour a book in one sitting, desperately piecing everything together as i go. but my experience was a little more stop-start than that. there were parts that pulled me in and reminded me why i’d been excited to read it, followed by stretches that didn’t quite have the same grip on me. i never felt as though the whole thing completely fell apart, and i definitely appreciated the originality, but i also couldn’t ignore the feeling that i wanted more. more tension, more connection with the girls and more of that urgency that makes a thriller impossible to put down. i enjoyed the journey; i just didn’t love every step of it. 🕯️
ꕤ when everything starts coming together
the ending was one of the stronger parts of the experience for me, and i appreciated the way the story finally brought its different threads together. after spending so much time following the girls individually, i wanted to see what all of it had been building towards, and the final stretch gave me more of the tension i’d been craving earlier on. it felt like the story was finally leaning into the possibilities of its premise, and i found myself much more engaged as things moved towards their conclusion. i won’t get into the specifics because i want anyone picking this up to experience those moments for themselves, but i did finish feeling that there was something worthwhile at the centre of this story. i can appreciate a book that takes a familiar genre and gives it a slightly unexpected twist, even if not every element works perfectly for me. and honestly, seeing the girls’ stories move towards that final stage made me appreciate the concept all over again. ♡
❁ the things i’ll remember
i think what will stay with me most about ask for andrea is the idea behind it rather than every individual twist or moment. the thought of three women finding a way to work together after being murdered, trying to make sure their killer can’t continue hurting people, is such a powerful starting point. i liked the focus on their determination, their individual personalities and the fact that their stories still mattered even after their lives had ended. it gave the book a different kind of purpose beyond simply delivering a shocking reveal. i also appreciated that the supernatural aspect didn’t feel like it completely overshadowed the thriller side of the story. it was an unusual combination, but one that gave the book its own identity. i may have wanted a little more from the pacing and character development, but i can still recognise when a story brings something interesting to the table. and this one definitely did. ❦
ꕤ final thoughts ♡
overall, ask for andrea was a solid read for me, even if it didn’t quite become the completely addictive thriller i’d hoped it would be. i enjoyed the premise, cared about the women at the centre of the story and appreciated the way their individual experiences connected to something bigger. the pacing and shifting perspectives stopped me from becoming fully immersed at times, and i wanted a little more emotional depth and consistent tension, but there was enough here to keep me interested and make the reading experience worthwhile. i can absolutely see why the concept would appeal to other thriller readers, especially anyone who likes their mysteries with an unusual twist and a little something beyond the ordinary. it wasn’t a new favourite, and i don’t think i’ll be shouting about every aspect of it, but i am glad i picked it up. sometimes a book doesn’t need to be perfect to leave you appreciating what it tried to do.
and if there’s one thing i’m taking away from this, it’s that these girls deserved to have their stories heard. 🥹🕯️ 3.5 stars from me ♡
ꕤ 𓂃 ࣪˖ pre-read ❦ the ghosts aren’t done yet 🕯️🖤
three women. one monster. and a story that doesn’t end with death. ♡ going into ask for andrea knowing i’m about to get emotionally wrecked, question absolutely everything, and probably become a little too invested in getting justice for these women. stepping out of my romantasy era for a little dose of murder, mystery & revenge… let’s see if this one destroys me. ♡
Meghan, Brecia, and Skye have all been murdered by the same man, someone pretending to be an eligible bachelor interested in dating them. Together, they will stop at nothing to ensure they are the last of his victims.
I have noticed over the past couple of years a significant shift towards focusing more on the victim than the perpetrator, and this book does exactly that. Told entirely from the perspectives of the three women brutally murdered by a serial killer, the layers are peeled back slowly through the eyes of each victim as they share what led up to their deaths and the ways in which they are so desperately trying to stop their killer from hurting anyone else.
While the story itself is not super original, the narrators and the pacing make it seem so fresh and new. It was heartbreaking to read through each woman’s experiences and the emotions that followed not only for them but for those they left behind. Ask for Andrea gives powerful voice to the victims and their families, and I think that is one of the reasons I enjoyed this one as much as I did.
🎧 I chose to do an immersive read with the audiobook and the ebook to prevent any confusion between the characters or timeline. While this can be done solely on audio or ebook for that matter, I think the two together worked the best for me, particularly because there is only one narrator, and I can see how I would have easily confused which character was speaking without the ebook in front of me.
