Novella length (22,000) sexy contemporary, Also included in Summer Lovin' box set (Book Boyfriends Cafe). First in the Least Likely to Fall in Love
I would’ve given it a 3 if the narrator didn’t make Max sound like an old man, buffoon. I thought at first he was a minor character but to be the H, not so much. Very short story but at least it brought up one of the older couples from first book of the series.
The first 40% was a bit slow for me but I did enjoy the last 60%. There are a lot of questions left unanswered with the H as the ending was abrupt. There was some good heat between the MCs.
Sue Walker is the school administrator at Lincoln High School and has a rule that she does not date cops or military men. But she is definitely not above flirting with them.
Max Holt is a security officer at the school while he is recovering from a gunshot wound while working as a police officer. His only goal is to get back onto the force but he doesn't have any plans for Sue Walker.
Then one night changes everything and both may have to re-evaluate their goals!
This was a good novella about having one thing set in your mind and then meeting someone and having your life turn upside down! I really liked the characters of Sue and Max and the banter between them.
Most Likely to Turn up the Heat by Cheryl Harper This novel looks at life and why it is hard for some people to form relationships. Lively, vivacious characters connect the reader to the dialog in the novel making it more real. I really appreciated the topic of how disconnect from a sense of community limits the ability to trust in relationship. Loved the happiness in the ending!
This is my first book by Cheryl Harper and I enjoyed it. There was chemistry between the characters and the story was well-paced even though it is a novella. Sue may not want to date a military guy or cop but when Max turns on the heat, how could she resist him? A hot and steamy read indeed.
