Wren has spent seven years of his life as a slave, only to have his world and all the rules he has ever learned turned upside down when he and his new master, Jere, begin a romantic relationship. For as many years, he has believed himself to be stupid and slow, unable to adapt to the demands of slavery, but a casual moment of reading over Jere’s shoulder challenges these ideas. (M/M)
Woo hoo a happy find that there is another instalment in the Inherent Gifts universe that had somehow escaped my notice. I LOVE this series andLessons Learned is yet another perfect piece in the puzzle that is Hojer where Jere and Wren live.
Jere is the town's doctor and is more or less trapped there if he wants to stay with his lover Wren. Wren's status as a slave means he is forbidden to leave the state. His brutal conditioning as a slave is juxtaposed with his burgeoning relationship with Jere and his growing confidence. This is a gentle short story of respect and love showing that a person's self image can be nurtured through seeing oneself the eyes of another. Beautifully enchanting.
