London is burning under the Blitz, but MI6 agent Katrin Nissen knows the gravest danger isn't falling from the skies-it's coming from inside Britain's own intelligence ranks.

A covert Nazi faction has infiltrated British intelligence in a plot to overthrow the government and install a German-controlled puppet monarchy-toppling Britain from within without firing another shot.

Framed for a colleague's murder, Katrin is forced underground, hunted by the very service she swore to serve. Together with her husband, MI6 operative John Breckenridge, and a disgraced former agent with a past as dark as the city's blackout nights, she searches for the mastermind behind the deadly plot.

Then the unthinkable happens-Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret are kidnapped, and King George VI and Prime Minister Winston Churchill are marked for assassination. The conspiracy is no longer theory-it's minutes from success. When a trusted colleague hints the answers Katrin seeks may lie in occupied Denmark, she escapes London. Returning to her homeland and her family, she rejoins the Resistance, freedom's last hope. But will it be in time?

Westwind is a historical thriller about a British female MI6 agent working to stop Nazi spies from infiltrating the British government. With her husband missing and presumed dead, Katrin’s world takes a devastating turn when she is framed for murder and must go deep undercover. Determined to vindicate herself and take down the preparators, she sets off on a whirlwind and dangerous mission that will capture the reader’s attention and won’t let go until the last page.

Set in multiple points of view, Brees gives wide-ranging and authentic perspectives of wartime Europe without losing an ounce of pace. While technically book four of a series, this reads as a stand-alone for those that want to jump right in.

A fun romp into the spy world, perfect for fans of Kate Quinn and Pam Jenoff. Five thrilling stars!

With crackling dialogue, colorful characters, and a thrilling journey across different corners of the world, Westwind will keep you on the edge of your seat. This suspenseful, clever, and historically accurate WWII espionage novel especially shines with the wry, intelligent voice of MI6 agent Katrin. Gutsy and resourceful, she and her husband, a fellow MI6 agent, race to save Prime Minister Churchill the British Royal Family, and Britain itself from the Nazis' evil plot. This dynamic husband-wife duo reminded me of married sleuths Nick and Nora Charles in The Thin Man - on steroids! Perfect for fans of historical fiction, suspense, and a bit of humor thrown in for good measure.

This is historical fiction at its best, combining espionage, conspiracies, humor and romance in a historically accurate setting. Brees will keep you engaged as the story unfolds and the fate of Katrin, John, and the free world hangs in the balance. As Hitler’s Blitz campaign threatens the United Kingdom with bombings and air raids, secret agent Katrin is tasked with protecting Winston Churchill and Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, a deadly mission during extremely dangerous times. This espionage thriller took me into the world of agents Katrin and her husband John as they calculated the moves of a mad dictator’s schemes to take over, of war rooms held in tunnels, and sirens constantly going off. The mysteries combined with the WWII history made for an unputdownable read.
