Heather and Leo are interesting people as individuals but didn't do it for me as a couple. They seemed to have little to no chemistry. There are moments that I felt as if the author is making fun of Leo, his arrogance and pretensions. Heather seemed lost at times but gave in way too easily to Leo and seemed to be to good for him all around. Perhaps my imagination or expectations were too far off kilter. You be the judge. I partially rushed through things and read this book in a haphazard manner. Didn't quite finish. Another book I wanted to like but I failed to be moved. *sigh*

The man deserved to be set on fire. The 'banter' was nothing more than vile sexist garbage that the man spewed non-stop with the intention of humiliating and degrading the woman. Very disappointing.

Leo is a billionaire. He’s bought his mum a nice huge mansion in the country, and he’s left his son with her while he lives in London – flying around the world to important business meetings, and dating his way through his file of women. They’re all thin and elegant and doing educated smart people jobs and are sometimes almost too busy for an evening with Leo. He’s having a great time.

Heather lives in a pretty cottage next to Leo’s mum. She illustrates children’s books for a living, and has a low opinion of rich business finance men because she was married to one, and he was a selfish jerk. She meets Leo when he walks over to her cottage to pick up his son, and gives him a lecture on parenting and being less of a selfish jerk.

That lecture, and in later encounters, Heather’s general disapproval of Leo, his lifestyle and his values go over a treat. Leo is completely hooked. ‘Tell me more,’ he says, as he sits on Heather’s couch and stares at her boobs. He’s hoping that when she runs out of steam he’ll get to touch them. He has to be very patient before the pay off, because Heather has a whole heap more interfering to do. She also has to work through her ‘men are bastards’ issues.

As well as being a nosy parker, Heather thinks she’s fat. This is because of her husband, who cheated on her and delivered clear and pointed feedback on her failure to be a good wife for an up and coming businessman. She tried, but she tried the wrong things: she read about finance so that they’d have something to talk about, rather than working out that whole how to network with people thing. I had some sympathy for her, and she was clearly a nice person and cared about Leo’s mum and his son. However, she also thinks she’s better that Leo’s bimbo girlfriends because she is a judgemental sort and assumes rich men only date brainless skinny bitches. Leo sets her right by pulling out his file of barrister and civil engineering girlfriends (ok, he doesn’t quite go that far). Romance heroines often assume mean things about other women, which is sometimes rather terrible of them, especially when they do it to make themselves seem uniquely wonderful by comparison.

Leo is not terribly endearing. He misses his son’s sports carnival. He really likes the idea of having Heather as his weekend girlfriend – he fantasises about coming home to a roast dinner and then a night upstairs as though those things would be a kind of kinky novelty. He’d continue his real life in London, and come down when he was in the mood for traditional. Still, I felt a little sorry for him because Heather was such a nag.

Leo is a man who appears to have been a crap husband and "father". He's forced to parent occasionally when his ex-wife dies. He's decided he only does meaningless, short-term (but not ONS) sex.
Heather is a fairly innocent woman who had a crap husband, swore off guys and just wants to be left alone.
Leo decides he wants a "challenge", Heather falls. Somehow it's all her fault.
ONE conversation magically "fixes" Leo, which suggests that the pompous a*se should have just got counselling and had the hard conversation with his brother years ago.
I read it to the end, but only because I don't like DNF if possible.

Leo must come to country to visit his mother and his son. The rare visits of the past are gone when he meets neighbor, Heather. Heather looks the epitome of the country bumpkin, all curvy and blonde with no fashion sense. Talking to her, Leo is confounded to find a very intelligent and sexy woman hiding in the countryside.

Heather knows the type of man Leo is, she had already been married to an overambitious, money hungry, no time for anyone but themselves man. From seeing the way he had previously ignored his mother and son, she let him know she had his number and was not impressed.

When his mother has a fall, Leo moves in to the country home to be there for his son and mother. Getting closer to Heather is just a bonus.

The story struck me as being lame. Not very enjoyable to read, and very dry. Seems to skip portions of the plot.

This is my first Cathy Williams book and I am disappointed with it. It was okay. Both the lead characters were weakly written. There were times I hated both of them. The only saving grace of the book was the humor... There were certain moments where you will be laughing out loud...

Over all okay book. plot was boring and the chemistry between the characters were not good. I have read better stories and even better written characters. You hardly feel related to the characters. I just wanted to finish this up...

Nice enough bit of fluff, but too much implied steam and not enough real steam and the ending nearly made me throw up.
