Keep Jesus in the center of your family's Easter celebrations with this beautiful Holy Week storybook from N.T. Wright, one of the world's most loved Bible scholars.
With a holistic approach that readers worldwide have learned to trust, N.T. Wright weaves together the pieces of the biblical Easter story into a thoughtful, hope-filled telling of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection—from the people's praise on Palm Sunday to the miracle of Jesus' return to heaven.
The First Easter features
a complete retelling of Jesus' last week and resurrection; anda resource page showing how Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled in Jesus' death and resurrection.A beautiful keepsake gift for children and adults alike, The First Easter celebrates God's rescue plan and Christ's sacrificial love with authenticity, beauty, and joy.
The First Easter is an instant classic from New Testament scholar N. T. Wright. It has everything I look for in a Christian children’s book: vibrant illustrations, a detailed story arc, and descriptions that are both accurate and age-appropriate.
Inside, you’ll find a full retelling of the Easter story, from Holy Week through the Ascension, including Jesus flipping the tables in the temple, washing the disciples’ feet, and Peter’s betrayal. I often find that children’s storybooks water down the biblical narrative to make it more “palatable” for children. I love that Wright does the opposite. He recognizes that children deserve to hear the fullness of the story, presented in a way that honours their developmental level.
And it doesn’t stop there. At the back of the book is a helpful overview of some of the prophecies Jesus fulfilled, complete with references to both the Old and New Testaments. I especially appreciate this addition because it gives parents an opportunity to go deeper with their children and explore how the Easter story fits into the larger biblical narrative.
I honestly cannot wait for this to be released so I can buy a hardcover copy for my children. This book deserves a permanent place on every church, school, and family bookshelf! A must-read, a must-buy, and I cannot wait to see what other children’s books Wright releases.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Tommy Nelson for the advanced review copy.
