Journalist Jessie Canning was on the phone when his cousin, Ben, was attacked. Fifteen minutes later, when Jessie arrived at Ben's condo, his cousin was dead and the little evidence Jessie saw pointed at Ben's employer, Senergine.

Now, while investigating Ben's murder, Jessie is caught between people who would kill to protect their secrets and others who should be dead but aren't, and who instead hunger for human flesh. With life and death as close as a minute away, Jessie must work with his estranged lover, Mathew, to learn more about what's happening...and if there's any way to fight it.

At the beginning of the novel we meet technical journalist Jessie. He is in his office, heartbroken and obsessed by the breakup of his marriage to research doctor, Matthew. His sense of loss and longing, as he turns towards each new phone call and every opening door in the hope of seeing his lover, is really gut wrenching. But then this quiet and melancholy beginning is quickly disturbed by a phone call from his cousin Ben, in which Ben asks for Jessie's help then is seemingly attacked while talking. Jessie rushes to Ben's house only to discover it surrounded by police and Hazmat investigators who won't tell him what's going on apart from that Ben has died. At the house he meets Matthew, whom Ben also called, and they start to investigate what happened.

I can't give away the whole story. It's really good. It's set in the near present and an experiment with nanotechnology has led to some dangerous mutations of the zombie kind! There's plenty of suspense, action, conspiracies and horror, not to mention second chances at love. Each element is well balanced and believable. My only gripe was that it was tied up a bit quickly at the end. Some googling led me to find out that this author is the pseudonym of another m/m author I like, Luisa Prieto.

So for all zombie fans out there, this is hands down the best book in the genre that I've read so far. Recommended!

Jessie receives a phone call from his cousin Ben, but as Ben is asking him to come around as soon as possible the line goes dead after a series of thumps. Now with his cousin dead and his estranged husband/lover by his side they have to discover the truth and just what Senergine is trying to hide.

This is quite a unique nanotechnology, zombie suspense story that is quite gruesome, violent and bloody… whoop! Jessie has been dwelling on the separation between himself and his husband. Hoping that Mathew will phone him and they can make things right between them. When he receives a call from his cousin Ben, and Ben seems to be in trouble he drops everything to go help him. But, when he arrives his cousin is dead, the police are there and men in haz-mat suits… could it have anything to do with the company Ben works for? With the help of his estranged husband, he begins to delve into what has happened and discovers what Senergine is trying desperately to hide.

The two main characters in this are Jessie and Mathew, who are married, but have been estranged for a couple of weeks. Their relationship seems a bit stilted and although they do have a wonderful reconciliation scene and incredible make up sex, you still feel like you are missing something in the relationship. The nanotechnology mutating and going wrong was brilliant and scary; something that could be a medical breakthrough turning into something out of a horror story and the developers trying to hide it was really well done.

Combining both story lines into one was well done, as was the emotional turmoil that Jessie goes through throughout the book. We don’t really get a real feel from the other characters like Mathew, Gabriel and Nathen, as the story is all from Jessie’s POV, but we get to know them enough to make us care what happens. This story is violent and bloody and near the end it gets a bit horrific, as you realize the lengths that some scientists will go to, to cover things up and also to discover answers.

I will recommend this to those who love futuristic, nanotechnology, zombie/infected thrillers, with blood, gore and danger and a reconciliation of two stubborn men in love.

I wavered between 3.5 and 4 on this one, but did enjoy it quite a lot, so went with the 4. I thought the bits of the book dealing with the technical and murder elements were very good. I cant believe i'm saying this, but i dont think it needed the sex scene ( i enjoyed it though) - having Jessie and Matthew together would have worked just fine for me. The zombie bits made me giggle, especially the first one, but thats me and zombies. I liked that their friends weren't perfect Gabriel that he would kill Jessie if needed, Nathen that he ratted them out . As I was reading it, I thought it was a story that could go mainstream as a zombie thriller that had gay mc's (prob would have to temper the sex then), but not sure why that thought flashed through my head. For zombie lovers, its quite light. As a mystery thriller, enough to keep you hooked, though a bit more on the containment would answer a few questions left. Overall, engaging read, flowed well, enjoyable.

This is an excellent near-future thriller. The story was very well written, and I really liked seeing Jessie and Matthew reconcile. I wouldn't have minded another sex scene, though. ;)

That writing style did nothing to pull me into the story and to stay there till it’s over. On the contrary it drew me away and few times I wandered why I still reading. For example we have two guys who fell in love and married but both of them where workaholic one medic other journalist and so they drew one another away with work. Just one fight and they go bye, bye.

One day Jessie who work as journalist get a call from his cousin Ben to get to his place really fast but Jessie come too late and from that point on we get just dead bodies, nanotechnology zombies and at last a reason why those two guys meet again.

From my point of view the main mistake in that story plot was that both of main character lived apart. So you ask yourself if Cousin Ben wouldn’t die would those two even see one another again. Even if they got together true the book the joy for them is not presented. I did not feel that longing and love between them.

Also that nanotechnology zombie plot is ridiculous.

This has got sharp writing....not sure what I think of the plot, though. Parts of it are much too convenient, and the story is too short to thoroughly develop anything.
