I apologize in advance for this very confusing review. My thoughts are all over the place about this book.
Cecelia Marks is running from her ex-husband, who she helped put in jail. She now lives her life taking joy wherever she can find it, practicing yoga, and getting tattoo's. Her latest stop has sent her to Luke Miller, a.k.a Lucky's shop. The second they meet they have an instant connection that neither of them understand.
Luke is a wolf shifter, and part of a shifter Motorcycle Club. For the past three years Luke has been on hiatus from his MC, dealing with the grief of his girlfriends death. But his MC, just got notice of a 2 million dollar bounty to kill a witness, and they call him back for help. That witness is Cecelia.
I really wanted to like this book, and the blurb grabbed my attention right away. The book just didn't deliver though. Each shifter book is different and authors always have their own worlds for shifters and rules, which is great, but can be confusing if not explained. I feel like nothing in this book was really explained which is why I was so confused. Even the yoga that both Luke and Cecelia practice was brought up in the first chapter and called by name - I had no idea what they were talking about! And that kind of thing happened throughout the book so I was getting annoyed with it.
I can't exactly explain why, but the writing style didn't do it for me. The dialogue felt weird and not real, especially during the smexy times. Honestly, I found myself laughing at some of the "sexy" scenes.
"I can't wait to feel you clamp around my cock like a vice grip of pleasure."
The plot had great potential and could have been an amazing book for me but everything happened so fast and felt rushed. I couldn't really feel a connection between Luke and Cecelia and just didn't see the romance that I was expecting. I didn't connect to the characters at all and felt like I didn't know them, especially Cecelia. Af first she came off as this scared woman, then a badass who will get in the middle of a fight, then a nervous little girl, and then a badass who can kick some ass? Overall, I just wasn't feeling this book.
I loved this introduction to Ryanne Hawk's new shifter MC series. The story is very detailed but simple to follow and easy to immerse yourself into. The world she creates for these diverse shifters was more than engaging and I can't wait to see what else she does with the series. I adored Lucky and Cecelia wasn't bad either :D.
When I read all the reviews on this book, I had to read it right then. The reviews were right on, this book was great!
I love Lucky, he is so beyond what you would imagine a biker to be, but then he is a werewolf! But that's not all, he is such a relaxed soul, just what a very paranoid human Cecilia needs.. Cecilia is what Lucky needs to release him of his ghosts of the past.
But aside from all her problems, Cecilia also has a deep secret that may help them help her.
I love the real biker life with the bond of pack life, not at all what is expected of biker life.
I would love to read more about the Inked Menace MC
When I first saw came across this book-the title, cover, and blurb demanded I read it. A supernatural motorcycle club with a suspenseful storyline? Sign me up.
The storyline focuses heavily on the characters with light introductions to the Inked Menace club members and dual backstories on our protagonists-Cecelia Marks and Lucky Miller. Cecelia is in the witness protection program after she turned her husband in to the Feds for illegal arms dealing. An impromptu decision to get a tattoo leads her to Lucky. Lucky Miller is a wolf shifter. A patched member of a secret shifter motorcycle club- Inked Menace- he went nomad when his girlfriend was murdered. Lucky and Cecelia connect instantly but their collective issues keeps them from making any moves in that direction. When he hears Cecelia has a bounty on her head and two rival gangs are thinking of trying to collect on it, he throws caution to the wind and decides he and his club are going to protect Cecelia no matter what.
Unfortunately what I expected to read and what I read were two different things.
Weak characterization and storyline takes potentially strong, interesting protagonists and makes them clichés. This is a result of the author choosing to use a multitude of plot devices to force the characters into the direction she wants them to go rather than building on the base she initially sets up. Can’t pursue a relationship due to past issues? Then we’ll slap in a situation to make it possible. Unsure sexually where you stand? The mate bond is a surefire way to bypass having to work through all those pesky emotions. Can’t figure out how to address the supernatural elephant in the room? No worries. We’ll just make the other person magical too. So on and so on. There was no real work in developing the story. Rather the reader is manipulated by flash and awe before noticing there is nothing behind the smoke screen.
Awkward dialogue and some odd phrasing made me laugh but not in a good way; knocking me out of story multiple times. The losing of one’s head is referred to as getting you’re neck hacked from your body. The heroine refers to her and the hero having sex as sating their baser desires. Dirty talk from the hero consists of, “you’re so tight that when we’re done you’re gonna squeak when you walk.” *blinks*
The story rushes to the end with almost no time devoted to the main conflict beyond introducing and off the wall resolution. I wished the villain would have played a more active role. The relationship issues are resolved with sex and a single conversation and everything else is “magically” wrapped up with a happy ending for all.

**I Received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for a fair and honest review.** Cecilia is part of the witness protection after her ex-husband tried to kill her, killed her unborn baby, and she turned state’s evidence against her husband for the illegal works he had his hands in. Even from prison her ex haunted her and put a bounty on her head worth two million dollars. She was up against two different MC’s and needed some serious protection. Lucky’s MC was there to save the day and save Cecilia. Would they be able to get along while she was in his protection? Would their differences be able to be overcome? This book was hot, interesting, attention grabbing, and sweet. There were so many elements of this book that could and would grab your attention. The MC part of the book was obvious from the beginning and the biker was hot, sexy, and dominant. He knew how to take care of business. The paranormal aspect was a great mix to the addition. When I started reading the book I forgot there was some paranormal in the story and it was well written. The author definitely did a great job combining the two worlds! The details were written incredibly well for this series. As you read through the book and read through the details and descriptions it was easy to transition yourself into their world, a world of bikers, shapeshifts, and beautiful scenery. This book will make you laugh at the testosterone flowing around the book as well as the quick witted lead female, Cecelia! It will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what’s up next for the MC! It’s a great read and easy to sit down and finish it in one setting as you won’t want to put it down!
Cecilia is in witness protection, running for her life from an ex-husband bent on revenge. Lucky is a talented tattoo artist, badass wolf shifter, and former officer of the Inked Menace mc both are haunted by issues from their pasts, but both are feeling the attraction. This is the first book in the new Inked Menace mc series, by Ryanne Hawk. This was my first read of her work and so impressed me that I am anxiously looking forward to more from this author. This series looks to be a winner IMO. Lucky has a lot of my go to situations that keep me interested. It has shifters in a mc with morals, danger, action, a solid love story, damaged people learning to deal & heal, a unique family and some magical surprises. What more can you ask for? Unless it's a cast of interesting secondary characters that make you want to hear their stories. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Lucky, my first book from Ryanne Hawk and first book in the Inked Menace was a very interesting combination of supernatural.
Cecilia is in the witness protection program after she helped put in jail her ex-husband. Lucky is a tattoo artist with issues, running away from them and his MC/pack. When they meet their troubles collide. Lucky is helping Cecilia stay alive and claims her as his "old lady" mate. In the process they figure they are indeed what they are pretending.
I am a bit surprised to see that part of the plot was the ex-husband wanting to kill Cecilia. My rational side wonders how is that possible when she is in a witness protection program.
I have come across few shifter books with a different approach to the imaginary magical creatures since every author has his own world and rules to describe and bring to life. Some left me confused because there were no explanations throughout the story and this is what happened with this story too.
The first chapter had me confused and looking for something to grasp and bring some sort of explanation: Lucky and Cecilia's attraction felt of of place since she noticed his zen place and not his physique When they talked about their yoga styles, I was really lost and had no idea what they were talking about. And that set a different mood to the book. From time to time the confusion happened throughout the book so that cut the joy out of reading.
When Cecilia was about to leave trouble stepped in and Lucky came helping. I wished the characters coming together was handled in a better way. In the end when they were free of their past why she didn't revert to her old name? It was an interesting one.
The story had a lot of ingredients: supernatural being, warlocks, witches and a gate keeper. They clashed and burned a bit for me because the story was to short to give me a good view of all of them.
But, this was a pleasant read. I liked Lucky and Cecilia. They had an interesting chemistry. Did I hope for more? YEAH...i hope the next book brings more.
I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW AND THIS IS MY HONEST REVIEW ... OVER 18 READERS... LOVE MULIT TYPE OF SHIFTERS, WARLOCKS,GATEKEEPER AND MOTORCYCLE GANGS , NEW POWERS..THEN THIS IS FOR YOU Cecelia Marks (her name now,at 25 she already knows a lot about the ways of the world) has chosen to find solace in yoga , meaningful tattoos and simple pleasures that life has to offer, she is in danger but has a few hidden secrets that no one knows. She goes to get a special tattoo and the artist,Luke Miller, who has had a few ruff years of his own and has a few secrets too. He just don't know she knows his and his friends till she tells him. When they meet there is a drawing, static that they both act like they don't feel. But that evening she gets a call that tells her the danger is back and worse, they want to move her again, another new name but she ask to let her think a little. But that evening Luke (Lucky) finds out from his MC group that she has BIG problems, so while the MC officers are deciding if they should do anything Lucky says protect her and stop her trouble. When ask why he lies and says "she is my old lady and possible mate"That got their attention and they vote to help her. Now to tell her and convince her to go along with what he said, if he can do that then he has to deal with the feds who want to hide her again. Now the story get a little hairy , they find her, plan to hurt her then kill her after getting the 2 million dollars. But she has a surprise of her own, but can she hold on till she can be found? Will anyone know what she is doing to help without her hurting them? Will they understand what must be done? Can anyone help her find real freedom again , or does she always have to keep running, always afraid. Can both Lucky and Cecelia ever get over their past to find a future that could be found together if they can. I really hope there will be more about them. I can't wait to find out.
This story is an unbelievably THRILLING read, and the birth of a new standalone series. The story focuses on Lucky an extremely sexy, hot werewolf shifter tattoo artist, and former VP of the Inked Menace MC; Cecelia a sexy, audacious, independent beauty who wants to stop hiding from her beast of an x-husband, who has put a kill bounty on her. Both characters continue to suffer guilted anguish from their horrific pasts.
Ryanne's talent truly shines as she lures the reader into this heart-pounding story. With vivid descriptions of each scene she captures the attention of the reader and keeps them wanting more.
This story has everything; all the characters portrayed in this story are impressive and engaging, banter is superb, camaraderie, danger, excitement, tears, and sizzling heart-throbbing pulsating romance.
I loved this story; it is well written and I so love when a story comes together, and love that this author has a gift to make the reader feel what the characters do. I laughed and cheered while enjoying this ENTHRALLING read and I certainly can't wait for the next book in this series. {I received a romance arc for an honest review}. Without reservations I highly recommend this book, and the author.
Wát een mutz ben ik zeg! Ben ik dit boek aan het lezen, denkende dat het een ander boek is wat ik ingezet heb voor een challenge... pfff lekker dan! :-( This book started out really good; a shifter (Luke/Lucky), but a tattoo artist and biker... and I really like biker books, so I was pleasantly surprised. Until the first sex scenes at about 50% in the book. All of a sudden the heroine (Cecelia) goes from a damaged, nice girl to a wanton slut in just 1 page. I don't mind a woman who goes after what she wants, but this just didn't fit the character. Then - as to be expected - things go wrong and Cecelia gets kidnapped and most likely killed... and hokuspokuspilatuspas... out of the blue Cecelia turns out to be a gate keeper (whatever that is) with witch craft and stuff like that. Also a warlock gets in the picture... all the MC members shift to bears, lions, jaguars, tigers and other vicious beast..... the bad guys get killed (of course) and everybody lives happily ever after. So... nothing more than a 3*** book for me! I absolutely liked the biker and MC part, the brotherhood, but the supernatural, paranormal stuff... that is just not for me! :-)
This book Was Given To Me By The Author In Exchange For An Honest Review
This book was catchy and held my interest from the very first word! I love Ryanne's style of writing and how she captivates her audience right away in her stories and entertains then right to the end. There is never a dull moment and her imagination is beautiful and whimsicality.
the characters in this one were very real and I felt for the main characters both who had both suffered painfully in there past. I think they complemented each other really well and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book. Ryanne's talent for surprise story twist's is amazing and I totally loved every minute of the ending!
I loved the whole biker gang perspective in the story, I think it lends to the whole shifter outlook. It not only gives them the whole bad boy vibe but also makes them sexy as hell...lol...I love shifter stories and this one has quickly jumped the list for me, I loved it!
Ryanne Hawk is a wonderful writer don't miss out on your chance to read this new work of hers or and of her work! Lucky was a incredible read!
What an absolutely splendid start to the series, although I have to be honest and I did this the wrong way around and I read the second book first, lol and read Oliver first, who by the way completely stole my heart and I found myself drawn to the author and her books.
This book was great and I loved both Lucky and Cecelia, to be honest when I first started reading I wasn't quite sure that Lucky was a shifter, even though in the back of my mind I knew he was, however that was kind of the idea as he was denying that side of his nature.
The book progressed really well and it flowed lovely, I must say I've really taken well to Ryannes writing style and will most definitely be reading more of her books, and I'm really glad that I just stumble upon her work.
I am glad that I decided to back to the beginning of the series, although to be honest I dont think I necessarily missed anything and Oliver is still my favourite so far (I have a thing for cat shifters).
I would definitely recommend this book / series to anyone reading this review and will be on the look out for more in the series myself.
I received this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review.
This book is like an onion, it has layers! It is a fast-paced, witty and gritty tale about the Vice-President of a Motorcycle Club and a woman with a deadly secret. Cecilia starts off as nothing more than a woman in Witness Protection, trying to live her life as best she can. There is an instant attraction between her and Luke but she only kisses him when she thinks that she's going to be leaving town. This sets in motion a series of events that will change her life forever, along with Luke's.
I loved how strong Cecilia is and how her mouth runs away with her at times. She isn't afraid to stand her ground but also knows when to back down. She is full of surprises and I loved her!
If you like Shifter stories, if you like MC stories, and if you can cope with a reference made to Ghostusters then I can definitely recommend this book to you. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next in this series!
I was given a copy of 'Lucky' from Ryanne Hawk, in exchange for an honest review.
I've just finished reading 'Lucky' & WOW I loved it! 'Lucky' is the first book I've read of Ryanne's, so I wasn't sure what to expect.... but I was quickly enthralled in the story from the first word. I loved the whole shifter & motorbike club mash up & as a fan of both genre's, I was thrilled with the result. 'Lucky' is book 1 in Ryanne's newest series "Inked Menace MC"... I can't wait to read what is next for this series.
This books is filled with a diverse range of shifters, motorbike clubs & ink.... both lead characters Lucky & Cecelia have secrets that they'll slowly share & pasts that have been difficult. I loved the flow of the story, the indepth look into Lucky or Cecelia when reading their POV's, the kindness Cecelia finds in Inked Menace MC & especially in Lucky. I can't wait to read the next book in the series & get my hands on Ryanne's other books.
I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review by author Ryanne Hawk. This is from the Inked Menace MC series by the author.
Cecelia Marks turned evidence against her wealthy husband because of something she over heard. Now she is running for her life when her ex put a bounty on her head. Lucky is dealing with the death of a loved one that he couldn't protect and when Cecelia comes into his life he struggles with what he has to do and what he wants to do.
I loved the character of Cecelia and Lucky because the author gave them both conflicting emotions it was almost like a love/hate kind of thing going on and how they interacted with the others in the story was well written.
This is for any mature paranormal MC romance book lover because of sexual content and adult language.
Cecelia Marks is in Witness Protection after turning in her ex-husband for illegal activities. Lucky Miller is a werewolf who left his pack and the motorcycle club life after his girlfriend and best friend died 3 years earlier. He meets Cecelia when she comes into the tattoo shop where he works. They are both instantly attracted to each but neither feels ready for anything permanent so they decide to not do anything about it. And then they learn Cecelia's ex has put hit out on her with a 2 million dollar bounty.....and 2 rival motorcycle clubs have decided to take "the job".
Lucky gets his MC involved in protecting Cecelia and, well....you will just have to read what happens next. I really enjoyed this book. It has shifters, excitement , intrigue, badass bikers, romance and sexy-times. Everything needed for an interesting story.
*I received an ARC from the author for an honest review*
Cecelia decides to get a tattoo and ends up face to face with Lucky. There is instant chemistry between them, but they both have secrets that prevent them from pursuing anything. Cecelia is in hiding from her ex who she helped put in jail after he put her in the hospital. She prepares to go into hiding when he puts a hit on her from jail. Lucky has been away from the MC for a few years after losing someone he cared about and lives with the guilt of that. When they bring him back in it is to discuss a hit put out on a woman - Cecelia. In order to help protect her, Lucky claims her as his. There are more secrets to be revealed and some serious danger to get through. What was supposed to be pretend is so much more. They are scorching hot together and I really loved their story. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I was honored when asked to read Lucky, it was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review. I do read a lot of MC books and a lot more of Shapeshifter romance books so when i read the outline of Lucky and Cecelia story and saw that these two topics combined it got me very, very interested. The story behind the two principal characters is amazing, clearly and effectively well written. He is a sexy alpha hero and she is a sassy strong heroine. You got love, hot steamy sex, drama, danger, tattoos, supernatural beings with magical powers and a family within the Inked Menace Shifter Biker Club. Now, I am a huge fan of Ryanne Hawk! I look forward to reading more from this series.
Part of the Romance Arc in exchange for a honest review ,. i love shifters and love the types where mating and bonding are involved , but the main two characters Cecilia and Lucky . who is a shifter but Cecilia is something more . but what is she you may ask well . to find out buy , read and review it . to find out i read this faster than i thought i would . being fathers day my kids are with their dad so i had more free time today than i will have the rest of my time . lol. sidenote who wants her dead .and can Lucky and his MC save her or will she save herself . find this and much more out when you buy the book
Cecelia has been running for her life from her ex-husband for years. Lucky is running from his past and mistakes. This books starts out with Cecelia going into a tattoo parlor and Lucky is her tattoo artist. This book has a weird vibe to it. Lucky does yoga and tries to be all zen but he's also a biker werewolf. Yes, you read that right. LOL Lucky and his MC agree to help keep Cecelia safe from her ex-husband when he takes out a bounty on her head.
I liked this book. I wasn't amazed by it even though the storyline was definitely different. The whole storyline seemed rushed but it was entertaining so I can't fuss too badly about it.
Another one of those "You should never judge a book by its god-awful cover" stories. I got this freebie months ago, and only decided to read it after finishing another MC novel that turned out to be alright. Cecilia talks like a real person, and there's one excerpt where they mention her knees creaking as she gets up from a squatting position (normal, human stuff that most writers forget about). The banter between Cecilia and Luke is cute and familiar, and doesn't seem scripted at all. This author pays attention to the little details without getting wrapped up in the mundane (which is a walking a fine-line). I really enjoyed this quick read.
This is a shifter MC story and I loved it. Cecelia is in witness protection after testifying against her ex husband. Lucky is still grieving after a few years from the death of his girlfriend and pack omega Remmy. Now Cecelia's ex has put a contract out on her head, can lucky protect her and make her is mate. Loved the character development and the humor in tight situation. Made me laugh and cry. Recommend to shifter lovers. Wonderful read.
Cecelia is on the run. Under her new name and identity in a new city. She hopes above all she can have a life at last. Luke aka Lucky is second in command of the MC. A tattoo artist also by trade. He meets her as she is just spreading her wings and getting use to life or so she thought. With everything going down. Will she have the life she always wanted and why does her tattooer look like he wants to lick her like she is a delicious appetizer. Not to mention she does too....
I really wanted to like this book more but it was just an ok read for me and not something I would recommend. The plot has the potential for more flushed out grit but lacks execution because the storyline moves rather quickly not giving the audience enough time to connect with the characters, situations and/or circumstances.
In the end, I felt it was a book worthy of 2.5 stars as substance was missing and I was unfulfilled.
I enjoyed the storyline, but wished there was a bit more background information on Lucky and the Pack. The characters as a whole are great. The contrast between MC and Shifter details blended well. I'm looking forward to reading what else this group of characters has to offer. Bring on book 2!
I was given this book for an honest review. Cecelia is on the run from her old life. Luke is on the run from himself. When they meet sparks fly and they both deny it because they both won't let themselves be happy. This is a beautifully written slightly erotic romantic story and a must read for all paranormal lovers. This is book and I can't wait to read book 2.
While this book had a good plot and I liked the characters, the MC setting seemed unrealistic (they were so friggin polite-- not a hardcore biker book at all). I enjoyed the read, but it's more a shifter book with guys who ride motorcycles than an MC story with bada$$ shifters. I'd rate the book a 3.5, but rounding up for the plot.
I received this book free for giving an honest review. Troubled man meets Troubled woman each of these Characters have a world of problems. I enjoyed reading this book as it was well written. The characters were well developed and believable. The plotline although similar to others was very well done. The book was a nice and quick read.
3 Star Book Review | Lucky by Ryanne Hawk | Giveaway
I gave Lucky a 3 STAR rating. I loved the framework of the story and the premise is interesting, but I wanted more. I wanted to dive deep into the world of this book, but I wasn't able to do that.
