Hurricane Love
One summer. One perfect storm. One love to last a lifetime.
At twenty-two years old, Wylie Sommers knows exactly what he wants in life–acceptance into law school and to get with Diego, the tattooed stud working behind the meat counter at Frank’s Pit Barbecue. From the moment their worlds collide, Wylie feels it, something electric, something rare. But the more he peels back Diego’s many layers, the clearer it becomes. This isn’t a reckless bad boy looking for a good time, but a man clawing his way toward redemption. Wylie’s not the type to walk away from something real. Not without a fight.
Fresh out of prison and trying to shed his turbulent past, Diego’s life is built on rules—strict probation, no slip-ups, no distractions. Then Wylie Sommers storms in, all confidence and swagger, turning Diego’s carefully controlled world upside down. The chemistry between them is undeniable, dangerous even. Because for Diego, wanting Wylie is a risk he can’t afford. And loving him? That could only spell disaster.
Their connection hits like a hurricane—wild, consuming, impossible to ignore. But standing in the eye of that storm means facing truths they’ve both been running from. Will they let fear tear them apart or risk everything for a love that might just save them both?
HURRICANE LOVE is character-driven, opposites-attract contemporary MM romance that features working class MC’s with the younger man as the pursuer in the relationship and a very light D/s dynamic. Content warnings for past drug addiction, off-page domestic violence with a side character, a non-violent robbery, some homophobic slurs, a depressive episode, and a hurricane event. This story ends in an HEA.

This was exactly the catnip I needed for the workload of weeks I've been inundated with recently. 🤌🏻 A very demure, very mindful kind of read that starts off affectionately enough with 22-year-old Wylie Sommers' keen interest in mysterious but not aloof, recently incarcerated 27yo Diego Abarca.
I just adored the first half. 🥰 I loved how Wylie's flirtations didn't quite come off as pushy but were just enough to push Diego with his beautiful Bambi eyes to slowly accept his advances, even when he's still so unsure about himself and working his way into mainstream life. Their playful banter, the zesty innuendo—it was all so touchy-feely that the grin on my face was welcome. 🙂↕️
“Wylie was hella interested, just in case Diego had any doubts. The man only had to say the word.”
Ofc, Diego's own hesitancy, that fearful restraint that he was deserving of Wylie with his tempting tongue piercing and so very strong affections, complete with their white picket fence future, does have him throwing up a firewall. 🧱 And a literal wall. Enough to gently nudge Wylie away with the promise that they could take it slowly, even as Wylie pursued his rightfully earned law school dream.
But slow long distance just isn't in the cards for some, and Wylie definitely felt the brunt. What started as sugar and spice turned into everything not so nice when Diego realized how wrong he had been in treating Wylie as a burdensome hindrance - that it was okay to want and not self-sabotage himself. 🥺 Unknowingly, they had become each other's steady lifelines for how very compatible they actually were.
So, why deny what's right? 😌
"Love... tested what he could endure, what he must challenge about himself, and what was worth holding onto once the storm had finally passed.”
'The king of I Can Fix Him' Wylie's open-hearted honesty, his tender and bashful, sexy smartass self that defied broody Diego's expectations of him. Diego, afraid of taking risks with his heart, for how much he's already lost, falling for Wylie was c'est impossible. Wylie made him feel so loved, so cared for. 🥹
Even treating their first moments of intimacy as something he cherished, to love and worship his ornery ass - so much trust for what Diego had missed the chances for. Throw in a little tumble and taste of D/S times and it was quite a hot and spicy fest. 🫠 And when it was Wylie's turn to be loved and treasured, Diego really understood how knee-deep his emotions of love ran for him - loud and consuming and uninvited. 💏
“I’m going to do my best to hold onto you.”
There are a few nitpicks here and there; the subplots didn't quite feel fleshed out enough to make me care enough. So when a more immediate threat or conflict arose, I never sensed a palpable threat to it; it was more like a contrived annoyance. I respect it is the real side of life being depicted, but it felt a bit out of place. 🙍🏻♀️
I suppose you might surmise that I only like romances when it's all fuzzy peaches. 😆 Not entirely true. But I just want a certain balance to love and war that doesn't make me off-kilter as to how and why this was necessary. But I do have a slight soft spot for authors I read when I first entered the MM romance foray - Laura Lascarso being one of them. And despite my few complaints, Hurricane Love was well worth the detour. 🩶🩷

A Joyfully Jay review.
3.75 stars
It’s been a while since I have read a new book from Laura Lascarso and I was pleased to see her back in the contemporary genre. Wylie is a character that comes across right from the first page. He has reasons he could be unhappy, but Wylie has persevered under difficult circumstances. He lives in a trailer alone, but has created a found family of the older crowd that lives in the community. He would really like a boyfriend and Diego seems like exactly his type—someone that looks like trouble. But Diego is determined to be finished with trouble and has no intention of doing anything to violate his parole or get him off track. And Wylie looks like the best kind of distraction that Diego needs to stay away from.
Wylie and Diego both struggle differently with mental health issues and finding a place to fit in. They complement each other in many ways as they find love and overcome their struggles together.

This book gave me an HEA that I loved reading for characters I enjoyed getting to know.

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Ooooh this was SUCH a sweet and suuuuuper spicy romance, with a couple of endearing darlings, some melodramatic push & pull but ultimately soulmate love, bestie's ott abusive loser bf doing some damage, and an ex-con's redemption arc whose HEA was flavoured with a bit of revenge.
I really dug Wylie throughout most of this book, because he was really self-aware, amazingly helpful, and was fantastic under pressure. He's definitely the best kind of friend to have in every situation, and I truly loved his dependable sassy a$s!
He was swinging wildly in every direction and fairly emotional at times. But he was only 22, laudably ambitious, and had epic resilience after enduring everything life had dealt him from an early age with a smile and a generous heart. He was also a tender, sometimes irrational thing when it came to relationships, and I just really adored his lovable yet complex vibe ngl.
Wylie was ALSO super toppy and Diego was putty in his sex hands and they were extremely hot for like 50% of this romance lol!
🌶️🌶️🌶️gurlllll the spice was spicingggggg so fr enjoy the fire if you're into lots of heat❤️🔥🔥
Diego, in contrast, was rightfully reserved, mostly serious, aware of every aspect of himself that could come off as trouble, and worked really hard to make sure that his every action was as precise and controlled as he could manage. And though he had A LOT to deal with, like his past baggage creeping on his present, and family noise, and falling for a bright, sunshiney wild thing while he patiently reordered his life after prison, when Wylie was falling apart at law school, Diego locked in and was THERE FOR HIS MAN!
Sad Wylie wrecked my face, but Diego showed up for our boy, and I'm still choking up over all the ways Wylie's people came together to make sure he had the support he needed moving forward!
And omg theeeeeee ending had me laughing out loudddd from how ludicrous it was,
But it also made me cry
and made my heart swell a thousand sizes.
Because it had settled the entire story with such benevolence
and had me believing that a certain hungry boy who'd had it rough since childhood,
who had a noteworthy, infectious, high-pitched giggle iykyk
and whose circumstances broke my heart,
would be taken care of long after the story's over
and who will never be hungry, nor in a bad way, ever again.

All Wylie wants to do is to go to law school, to make extra money he has been working at the local barbecue joint. Diego has just come out of a long prison sentence, given a job at his uncle's place, Frank's Pit Barbecue, all he wants to do is keep his head down and get on with his life. Wylie has other plans.
Wylie knew from experience that life was too short and once he saw Diego he wanted to grab him with both hands. Like everything he did he was determined to win Diego's heart. Diego lived by rules, getting his second chance, he wanted to prove to everyone that he was a good guy and as you read this book, you can see he was. Whether is was to help out with Diego's best friend or his family, he was there to help out wherever he was needed.
They were good for each other, Diego's steady structured life calmed Wylie, Wylie got Diego to live and have start to enjoy life.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I was a champion for Diego and Wylie, wanting them to get their HEA, but it was not easy, a slow burn as Wylie tried and sometimes failed to let Diego get to that stage in their relationship.
I loved the relationship Wylie had with Nancy and the rest of the residents and he had so many pseudo parents/grandparents to look out for him.
My only complaint was I could have kept reading, I wanted to know more of their lives in the future, did they get their dreams and I wish, I hope we get Arturito's story

Wylie only really wants two things. To get into law school and to have his gorgeous tattooed coworker, Diego, be his boyfriend. Wylie felt their connection from the start. It started slow and they became friends first but friends isn't all Wylie wants to be but Diego is wary as he's fresh out of prison and is determined to redeem himself by following all the rules and staying away from distractions that cause possibly cause him to stray. And his connection with Wylie definitely has his head turned. They're like a slow building storm. Gaining momentum until they can't stop the storm. It's intense and sparks fly but Diego feels like he has a lot to prove especially as everyone knows about him being an ex con. But Wylie isn't deterred and works to show Diego that although things aren't easy and they have their own fears and struggles that what they have is worth exploring. I loved these two and their chemistry and just really enjoyed reading their journey navigating rough waters together to the end when the waves calmed and the storm broke out with a rainbow for them at the end.

I really enjoyed Wylie and Diego’s story. Their personalities are so different, but somehow they complement each other perfectly. Wylie is determined and persistent, while Diego’s more cautious, structured approach to his new life gives them a really nice balance.
I especially liked watching Diego slowly realise that he was allowed to want more than simply keeping his head down and following the rules. Wylie’s determination to get through his walls was frustrating at times, but it also made their eventual progress feel earned.
The supporting characters added plenty of warmth too, especially the sense of community around Wylie. Overall, this was an emotional, character-driven romance with plenty of heart, and I was definitely rooting for these two to get their happy ending.
i rec a free arc and this is my honest review

What a great book! Wylie is 22 and waiting eagerly for two things: to get into law school and for Diego, his newest coworker, to notice him. Diego, 27, is freshly out of prison and concentrating on staying sober and out of trouble. But he doesn't stand a chance once Wylie sets his sights on him.
Both MCs were great - wonderfully fleshed out men that are so easy to root for. They compliment each other beautifully and watching their relationship unfold is sweet and steamy! Laura does such a good job capturing the setting of the Gulf Coast of Florida, the nuances of complicated families, the joy of found family, and the terror of starting over. I devoured this book in a day - cannot wait to see what she writes next!

This was such an easy, feel-good, heartwarming read. With characters like Wylie and Diego, they were easy to get invested in their love story. I loved their dynamic. Not only were they so sweet together, but the spicy moments between them were HOT.
The fact that Wylie's cheeky self relentlessly pursued Diego was fun and entertaining. He's a shameless flirt, and Diego needed someone like him to break his walls down and bring him back to life. Their dialogue was fun to read. I enjoyed how the MCs grew together and how their story developed.

'Wylie marveled at this man who had shown up every single time it mattered— for him, for Hannah and Nancy, for the residents of Sunset Village, even for their beloved pets. Diego never asked who deserved his loyalty. He simply gave it.'
I really enjoyed this book. I'm a sucker for ex-con romance, and love natural disaster stories, so I was excited to read this book. Good world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Diego and Wylie. Both have their own issues and demons to fight against, but they were good people and I liked how their relationship developed. I also loved the supporting characters and found family. It was easy to get emotionally invested in these two men and cheer for their happy ending. 4 stars

Wylie's life hasn't been the best but he's determined to escape it through a law degree.
Diego is out of prison for a youthful mistake he made.
He's determined not to fall back into old situations.
To that end, he wants nothing to do with sweet, bubbly Wylie because he's got trouble written all over him.
Both have struggles with mental health issues and friends in trouble who need them.
I really enjoyed seeing them build a relationship through friendship first.
They had struggles, mainly with lack of communication which led to misunderstandings and almost led to them not being able to have their HEA.
Thankfully both of them come to their senses and are able to be happy.

I loved this book! This is a new to me author and I am so glad I read this one. I really liked how the expected was the unexpected. Diego, ex-con. tattooed, very masculine presently but has a hard time forgiving himself, accepting love, allowing himself to be taken care of. Wiley, super smart, confident, outspoken, out and proud, younger but the dominant partner in the relationship.
Each needy, strong and vulnerable in his own way but trying to present themselves as something different. This was a super sweet, spicy book that made you laugh, cry, cheer and want to scream at times. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

This was so sweet. Diego submitted so beautifully to Wylie and they had amazing chemistry. There was some relationship angst due to Diego needing to believe in himself and allowing himself to have good things, but it all worked out in the end. Wylie saved Diego in the beginning and later when Wylie was struggling being away from everyone, Diego comes to save Wylie. Also glad Diego's mother eventually came around and her relationship with Wylie was cute.
Only wished Todd got his karma for setting people up. Also not sure how I felt about that Cody epilogue.

Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion:
3.5⭐️This was good, with really great characters, and the writing is excellent. Wiley and Diego grow into their relationship and become quite an excellent team. They balance each well and I appreciated how hard they worked to be together. A colorful setting and good side character also added loads of character to the story. I will say it felt long to me and Diego and Wiley spent a lot of time apart after their middle act breakup which dragged a little.

Cute, intens and I love it. Talk about a match made in heaven or soulmates, because that's what Diego and Wylie are for each other.
Wylie is a little broken because of oast relationships en Diego is a little broken because of his past choices, but together they see the best in each other and support each other. I mean they are literally my relationship goals.
I don't think cute is the right term, but they were just so perfect together I could swoon.
P.S. I received an ARC, but this is my honest opinion. Thank you to GRR for the ARC.

I loved both Wylie and Diego in this story. Wylie for the way he interacted with the elderly people who live near him and for his determination to get to know what makes Diego tick, and Diego for his determination to stay out of trouble, focus on his job and rebuild his life. Their chemistry is off the charts and it's clear they can't stay away from each other so I was glad to see them be strong enough to fight for the relationship they come to want and need. The writing about the natural world and the trials it has for these two was a nail biting part of the story.

I really enjoyed this book. Clearly I need to read more by this author! I liked the themes and the characters and the relationship and the sex.
I would have loved a little more, though. I felt like this book only really focussed on the relationship and Hannah's issues. Wylie and Diego both had a lot going on, but it was only discussed/explored when it directly concerned their relationship, and that left a lot out.

I felt like I was along with Wylie with all his hopes and dreams. He was held down with not much, but he survived and was determined to make something of his life. This strength and genuine happiness no matter what extended to Diego. Diego was more gloom, quiet and a bit down on hope. Together and it was not all easy they propped each other up. I must also mention the intimacy was strong and off the charts hot.

This was such a sweet book. When I initially read the blurb, I wasn't too sure about it until i set and read it all and wow was I blown away.
Wylie & Diego were the most amazing characters. Who knew a law student and a fresh out of prison man would work so beautifully together but they did, and I fell in love with their love story.
I really loved the end when they were living together and moved from the apartment to the house an adopted ginger. That was just the sweetest ever.

Wylie’s dream is law school without distractions. When he goes to Frank’s Pit Barbecue he meets a big distraction in Diego. Diego is an ex con trying to restart his life. There is an instant connection between the two, both with emotional issues and friends to lover vibes. The story is romantic and spicy, recommended read.

This book was... okay. The premise was interesting, but I didn't find the characters or the dialogue believable. The sex was raunchy and extensive, which is great if that's what you're into. I think the bottom line is that this isn't the author for me.

Wylie and Diego are compelling characters, each with their own struggles and strengths. Their connection is fueled by more than the opposite-attract energy, but that’s definitely a vibe. This story packs a punch and it’s character driven in all the best ways. Gentle note to heed the content warnings. Well worth a read.

Such a wonderful story
This was such a good book. I loved the dynamics between the main characters. The author was really good at showcasing how past trauma can affect you in all aspects of your life and how it affected their relationship. It also showed profound found family and community relations.

Wylie and Diego were very different in many ways, Diego is very quiet and incredibly focussed on staying away from his past addiction with resulting jail time. Wylie is much more chaotic and free with his affections. The characters around them were particularly interesting, especially the blood and found family dynamics and the influence these had.

Enjoyed this book very much - I do love the different status trope with hurt/comfort vibe. Don't get me wrong, it's no cute'n'cozy story - quite steamy (BBQ hot ....hehehehehe) and sassy ...most of all, love how the MC's complement each other. Very well written story, new for me author but will be looking at her other works !!

I really enjoyed reading Hurricane Love by Laura Lascarso. This is a coworkers, opposites attract, grumpy(kind of)/sunshine, friends to lovers read about Diego and Wylie. I really enjoyed reading this storyline and the wonderful characters.

LOVED this book!!! 5 enthusiastic stars! I couldn’t put this one down. The characters were so vivid and complementary, and the story was intriguing. I just wished it was longer, or that there would be a sequel!

Two men are about to pulled together and their pasts may just blow it all up. They want the other but they also know it could be a problem when their pasts come back to haunt them both. Follow them as they try to sort it all out

A good story that reads well.
The characters and the storyline are good.
However, I felt that it revolved more around Hannah than the MCs, and that is a shame.
