About the author

A.S. Thompson

6 books17 followers
A.S. Thompson is a southern California native with a wild card personality! He has worked in a variety of fields, lived in different area codes and in recent years added to the literary world.

His first book "The Longest Road" was an adaptation from a screen play written during college that has since seen two sequels. Arguably coming into his own in "The Change," Thompson's growing style has taken survival horror to new heights. "The Other Side," the daring finale of the series, expands on previous themes of unpredictability and uncertainty, culminating in a grand conclusion of epic fashion.

While his debut novels are post-apocalyptic/zombie by nature, critics and fans have praised the series and described it as a complex, beautiful tragedy and a gripping story about family, endurance, love and loss.

Fortunate to entertain the zombie-loving masses, Thompson does have plans to deviate from the genre with future projects in the action and sci-fi realms.

When he is not sitting behind a computer, Thompson enjoys his favorite pastime: traveling. Whether visiting foreign countries, trying new foods or talking it up with locals, Thompson views touring the world as an unreal experience. In addition, he is a huge fan of movies and live music, and many times paparazzi have captured him frequenting new releases and local shows.

In all aspects of his life, Thompson seeks originality; that new sound or idea that is going to set himself apart. The Longest Road and sequels were created out of his love for the horror genre. To him, there's nothing like the suspense and thrill of reading a horror novel or watching a scary movie...the heart pounding, the spine tingling, and that part in the back of your head that wonders what will happen next...

It starts like a zombie book : a virus released among population, a family gathering for thanksgiving and chaos.
I love it the when the outbreak begins and to see how everyone reacts and how society crumbles.
By the end it's less about zombies and more about the characters and storyline (great plot).

I didn't know there could be so much action and suspense packed into one book! As a huge fan of A.S. Thompson's work, I was eagerly awaiting the publication of The Other Side after reading the first two books in this series. I love the other books, but The Other Side is by far my favorite.

I finished this book in record time because I just couldn't stop turning pages. The main characters get separated, and each group has to fight an uphill battle to save mankind from an evil sociopath who aims to take over the world. There were so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming, and there were heartbreaking moments too. Readers can't help falling in love with the cousins and their ragtag team of survivors.

No spoilers here, but I will say that A.S. Thompson has no problem killing off his central characters. But that's part of what makes his books so exciting. No one is safe! The characters in Thompson's books are so real that readers feel like they know them. It's always tough to lose a fictional character that you've gotten to know really well.

This is definitely a "zombie novel," but the zombies aren't the main focus of the book. It's about family, love, and survival. And, of course, humor. Lots and lots of humor! The author quotes movies and cracks jokes at just the right time. That's why I love reading Thompson's work - just when the characters' situations seem bleak, there's a quick one-liner or flash of humor that cracks me up.

It's always bittersweet when you finish reading a series you've enjoyed. The ending to this trilogy is so well done that I wish there was more, but readers can't ask for a better finale. I hope A.S. Thompson continues to write because I'd love to read more of his work. I give five shining stars to The Other Side, and to the entire series.

It's not the author's fault really. It was the end of a seven year run of this genre for me. I figured out over the years that it's the first book I always like the best. I love it the when the outbreak begins and to see how everyone reacts and how society crumbles. It sort of plays into my 40 year old last man on earth fantasy. By the end it's less about zombies and more about the characters and storyline. This was as well written and exciting ending as there is and I love AS Thompson's work and will always read whatever he writes. However I think I'm done with this genre at least trilogies in this genre. Only book one for me from now on.
