Authors put a ton of effort into their craft, so I try to include some independently published and self-published titles from time to time. That's how I came to read Beyond the Fields by Sharin Bhatti.

It's the story of Dipti, who has always dreamed of a life beyond her village. She starts a small business and finds love, and everything seems to be going just right... until it isn't. One tragic event, in particular, sends her reeling and forces her to begin again. Although the road ahead is difficult, Dipti discovers the courage, and the support, to rebuild her life.

The story is told through a close third-person perspective centered on Dipti. I could tell the author felt a strong connection to her during the writing process, as she's easily the most well-developed character in the novel. I was invested in her journey and eager to see how she would overcome the hardships she faced. That said, I would have liked to see more complexity from Dipti herself, as well as from the supporting cast.

I love reading books set in India. It's such a vast country with incredible diversity, and I usually come away having learned something new while feeling immersed in the setting. I didn't quite get that experience here. The foundation of the story is strong, but it felt a bit thin in its execution. Richer descriptions of the setting and deeper character development would have made the world feel more vivid.

The prose is accessible and emotionally grounded, making it easy to connect with Dipti's journey. While the storytelling is sincere and engaging, I noticed a few recurring sentence patterns that became somewhat repetitive over the course of the novel.

At fewer than 200 pages, Beyond the Fields is an easy one or two-sitting read. Dipti is a genuinely likable protagonist whose hardships stirred my empathy, and her resilience is impossible not to admire. This story is best suited for readers who enjoy uplifting stories of resilience and second chances, appreciate hopeful novels about rebuilding after loss, or are simply looking for a quick, heartfelt read.

Nerd Rating: 🤓🤓🤓— hopeful and heartfelt

Let's Discuss:
What's something that has helped you through a difficult new beginning?

I read a digital copy made available by Sharin Bhatti, and this review reflects my honest opinion.

Beyond the Fields is a touching story about heartbreak, healing, and finding the strength to start over. I loved how the author showed that healing isn’t instant…it’s found in small moments, kind people and the courage to keep moving forward.

For such a short book, it carries a lot of emotion and leaves you with a sense of hope. If you enjoy character-driven stories with themes of resilience and second chances, this is definitely worth reading.

As an elder daughter, I somehow connected deeply with Dipti’s journey. The silent responsibilities, the sacrifices no one notices, the strength to keep moving forward even when life keeps testing you it all felt incredibly real.

Beyond the Fields may be a short novel, but it leaves a lasting impact. It follows Dipti, a woman whose life changes in an instant, forcing her to leave behind everything she has ever known. What follows isn’t just a story of heartbreak it’s a story of resilience, healing, hope, friendship, and finding the courage to choose yourself, even when it’s terrifying.

What I loved most was that the book doesn’t rely on dramatic twists. Instead, it reminds us that healing happens quietly, second chances arrive unexpectedly, and sometimes the people who stand by us become our true home.

Why you should read this book:
🌾 If your dreams are bigger than your circumstances.
🤍 If you believe in second chances in life and in love.
👭 If you appreciate beautiful female friendships and meaningful human connections.
🌻 If stories of resilience, struggle, and personal growth inspire you.
✨ If you need a reminder that success takes time, but believing in yourself is always worth it.
💛 If you’re manifesting a better future and need a little hope along the way.

Some books entertain you, while others quietly heal parts of you. Beyond the Fields belongs to the second kind.

Beyond the Fields by Sharin Bhatti is a short novel with real heart that has a lot to say about friendship, family, overcoming hardship, and resilience in the face of difficult circumstances. There is a lot to relate to about Dipti's journey and anyone who has experienced adversity will feel seen by this book.

Life often does not work out in quite the way that we hope or expect, and Dipti not only has to deal with some very difficult family circumstances, but also getting through a profound heartbreak and daring to dream beyond her present circumstances.

This book was clearly a labour of love and the care that the author has for her main character is obvious. What I respond to most in any novel is an authentic voice and this book definitely has that. In Beyond the Fields, readers will find a deeply relatable main character, a coming of age story with both tragedies and triumphs, and a debut novel that shows great promise for the work yet to come.

Thank you to the author for providing a digital copy of this lovely book for review. All opinions are my own.

A Heartfelt Story of Healing, Resilience & Second Chances

Beyond the Fields is an emotional story about heartbreak, friendship, resilience, and finding the courage to start again.

What I loved most was Dipti’s journey....from a difficult childhood and painful relationships to rebuilding herself and creating a life of her own. Her friendship with Pari is truly beautiful, and Pari’s unwavering support becomes a source of strength when Dipti needs it the most.

The miscarriage scene was especially heartbreaking. The author portrays Dipti’s grief so beautifully that it genuinely brought tears to my eyes.

I also loved how Dipti slowly rebuilds her earring business. Her journey from a few small orders to creating something of her own felt inspiring and hopeful.

A heartfelt read about second chances, healing, friendship, and finding yourself again. Definitely recommended for readers who enjoy emotional, character-driven stories.❤️

An uplifting novel that stays with you long after the final page!

Beyond the Fields is a touching exploration of love, loss, courage and the strength it takes to begin again. Dipti's story is filled with genuine emotion, showing that while life doesn't always unfold as we imagine, it can still lead us to unexpected joy and purpose.

The author beautifully captures the challenges of leaving everything familiar behind while highlighting the power of friendship, compassion and inner resilience. Rather than relying on dramatic twists, the story quietly draws you in through its emotional authenticity and relatable characters.

This is a comforting and inspiring read for anyone who believes in second chances and the resilience of the human spirit. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would happily recommend it to readers who appreciate meaningful contemporary fiction!

This story has much to commend it. The writer clearly has a talent for words, and there are many beautiful "turns of phrases" throughout. The story has a clear beginning, middle, and end; the characters are clearly drawn. That said, there are many repeated lines, and some ideas are hammered a little too often. Also, I felt that the some of the scenes could be more richly described. I very much enjoyed the read, and I hope to see more from Ms. Bhatti's writting in the future.
