Heel erg tof. Uitstekende introductie. Geef me meer!!!!

A very simple coming of age story. Kid is forced to leave home, experiences hardship and growth, finds a new family, the end. Its strength is the art, especially the action scenes which are quite well done. The highlight comes in the middle with a battle royale set in an enclosed junkyard, something like the competition grounds from The Running Man. (There are obvious echoes of other movies as well — mad max, conan) Much of the writing is perfunctory narrative summary especially the ending where the hero goes from cynical, depressed loner to caring family man and valued colleague in a couple of captions. A stronger action focus & more world building (hints of which were interesting such as the scrappers and the tracking creatures) would suit this series better.

Plot:

Solo and his Pa go on a hunting trip but most of their kill is stolen by scavengers.

Seeing that there’s not enough food for his siblings, Solo decides to embark on his own.

He survives in the wilderness, facing wild beasts, outlaws, and harsh weather.

One day he goes to the scrapyard to trade meat for a gun.

When he kills a rude cat (totally unjustified) in skillful fashion, the junk dealer is so impressed he sends a message advising the local circus master, who orders his minions to capture Solo for his arena.

Solo is captured that evening with the aid of saliva beasts and taken to the arena.

He quickly proves himself, fighting for an unspecified duration — long enough for him to grow noticeably larger while remaining relatively small.

He defeats the arena champion, earning a ticket to the installation where a competition will be held amongst the regional champions.

At the installation he is able to prevail over his rivals as well as a lurking monstrosity, securing his freedom.

He still finds life pointless and hard, however, mainly running on a defiant survival instinct.

One day he’s out hunting when he misses, trips, and gets gored by a beast.

If not for the timely arrival of some friendly ratmen he would have died there.

They take solo to their rat village where he meets a cute lady rat and ends up getting involved with the community and finding happiness.

Well this was a pleasant surprise. I came across this comic by pure chance and I can say what a story. I truly hope they translate more of these books to English.

Story setting is like something from the W40K - after a cataclysm Earth is now roamed by humans and mutants - both mutated creatures created by man and various species (cats, dogs, rats, reptiles etc) that mutated to human level intelligence. It is world where food is scarce and everyone is source of food for the other one. Weapons are mix of blades and guns and it is visible that more advanced engines of destruction are in existence.

So we follow Solo, our protagonist, mutated rat, as he leaves his home because he became of age and due to too many mouths to feed he needs to start his life on his own. This will put him into existential crisis as he wanders the desolated area and has his life changed by savageness of the nature and other creatures he comes into contact with. This will make a cynic of him but at the end he will manage to find a small of piece of heaven where he can finally relax and live normally.

Many people compare him with Conan but I dont think it is good comparison. While Conan seeks wealth and position in the world (to show how "civilized" civilizations are, how hypocritical they are) and considers strife natural order of things, Solo just wants to survive so he can live normally (not unlike Ridley Scott's Gladiator protagonist). And to survive his skills (both martial and survivalist) get honed to the perfection.

Art is..... beautiful is understatement. Considering the adult theme of the comic it might strike reader as a contrast to have Disney level of drawings coming to life before his eyes (same feeling I had for Siegfried comic books). Its amazing, needs to be experienced. Just beautiful.

Recommended to all fans of stories about civilization rebuilding after apocalypse.

L'apocalypse a eu lieu.

Cool artwork, and the story idea is cool, but a lot of the dialog is trite and unoriginal. This may be a problem in translation, and not the fault of the author.

Just as it have been said before, imagine Conan just with a rat like body. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it to any fans of action packed comics and great art style.

The art is amazing. Or, at least very much to my taste.

The story is very fun, too, althpugh the end is a bit boring.

I liked the story about Solo and his family and how he got caught...
He wasn't sold but enslaved like maximus.
He will fight to survive but for nothing else...

Amazing art and story

Few times have I gawked in wonder at every image in a graphic novel or comic. Oscar’s work is inspiring.
