What I loved: first chapter was perfection. Proper chills and hooked from the start! Dani's visual storytelling is masterful, making it effortless to see, taste, touch and smell the world she has created. Every sentence is rich, yet never feels overwhelming nor contrived - have no idea how she does it! 🙇♀️ Dual timeline moves the plot along, building suspense between the past and Thea's present. The family you find for yourself is one of my favourite things, and Thea's fellow immortals are diverse, complex and the kind of friends you could only dream of having your back.
What I didn't love: Thea's struggles with forgiveness, blame and guilt hit really close to home, and this made HRR a personally challenging (but incredibly liberating) read for me. I don't always stray from the safety of romantasy, because the world is so fucking dark, but for this book I am so glad I did: I've not resonated with the mental health struggles of a character in a really long time, so this book was a gift I didn't know I needed.

A story of neurodivergent Thea, navigating love, friendship, and stigma after immortality is thrust upon her. I loved this book and found the autistic representation to be incredibly authentic and accurate. The portrayal of domestic abuse was powerful and it was heartbreaking to see Thea lose parts of herself along the way. The sense of Thea’s wanting to belong and need for stability really struck a chord with me. Despite being a hefty book, I devoured it in a matter of days and I could not put it down.

Beautiful. A story of one neurodivergent woman's struggle against systemic and personal oppression, with immortality and an evil corporation trying to delete immortals from existence thrown into the mix.
Loved it so much I read it in one sitting; tomorrow happening couldn't stop me!!
Be ready for emotional trauma, cool witchy stuff and true found family with some awesome badass powers sprinkled on top.
