New York Times Bestselling author. What is more fun than playing Minecraft? Taking an adventure right into the game itself with bestselling author Mark Cheverton.
What will Gameknight999 do when his own friend is infected with the evil Herobrine virus?
This adventure series is created especially for readers who love the fight of good vs. evil, magical academies like Hogwarts in the Harry Potter saga, and games like Minecraft, Terraria, and Pokemon GO.
With the destruction of the infected Ender Dragon, the monster kings were forced to retreat. Herobrine’s poisonous XP has been captured in an obsidian box and sealed tightly. Gameknight999 and his friends know that the obsidian box will have to be destroyed to eliminate the evil virus once and for all. But how? And who will be brave enough to do it?
Gameknight and his friends decide to take the infected ender chest far from their village, to a place where it will do no harm. But during the voyage, Herobrine takes control of Herder and has him steal the ender chest, taking it to the Nether where the blaze-king, Charybdis, awaits. But while they’re battling a host of blazes, zombie-pigmen, and ghasts, the obsidian box is broken, infecting Herder with Herobrine’s XP. As Herder is overcome by the virus’s poisonous wickedness, Gameknight must face his friend in battle if he hopes to defeat this monster. But how can he destroy Herobrine without destroying his friend?

I think you'd like this because it's thrilling. This book is about someone who gets sucked into Minecraft. This book is really about trying to save Minecraft and the real world. You'll love the part when they defeated the monster army.
I LOVED this book because I LOVE Minecraft. I didn't like this book because Herder changed into Herobrine! I liked this book because Herder was saved because of Gameknight999. I also think it was very exciting because there were so many intricate battles and puzzles that all lead to Herobrine. In the end, Gameknight999 beat Herobrine! At least he thought so.........
I enjoyed this book because I love MINECRAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also enjoyed this book because I liked the part when Gameknight999's friends (not Gameknight999) defeated Herobrine and left Herder in a curled-up ball. I also enjoyed this book because I liked the part when Gameknight999 got back into the physical world (with a digitizer). I did not like the part when Herder tripped in the Nether and fell with Herobrine's XP (Experience Points) and turned into Herobrine.
Ah, the Gameknight999 series, perhaps my favourite series in the world. This book is one of my least favourites in the series, solely due to the heavy amount of the book the characters spend complaining, however the physical book moves faster than the audiobook, which is a plus side. Despite perhaps being my least favourite in the series, I still adore it and it still hails as a five star book for me. Here's what I think of the plot, the characters, the progression and much more. Spoilers ahead for many of the books in this franchise... So don't go ahead if you are still reading this series for the first time. SPOILERS AHEAD SPOILERS AHEAD SPOILERS AHEAD
SPOILER ZONE APPROACHING!!!!!!
THE PLOT __________ The plot begins where Destruction Of The Overworld ended, where Herobrine's XP, trapped within the ender chest is waiting in the obsidian turret at the top of Gameknight's castle. The XP begins emitting a whining sound, which causes paranoia and arguments to run high within the village, which results in a catastrophic battle which leaves Gameknight upset. Elsewhere, Herobrine has sent a message to Feyd, the king of the endermen, to find the new spider queen, Shaivalak. He successfully finds the new spider ruler, whom will later form a worthy adversary for Gameknight and his friends. Meanwhile, Gameknight decides that the ender chest needs to be expelled forever. His friends argue about this but Crafter brings up 'The Abyss', the deepest pit in all of Minecraft, created by the legendary 'Smithy Of The Two Swords' in the first Great Zombie Invasion. Gameknight, his dad (Monkeypants271) as well as his usual friend group (Crafter, Hunter, Stitcher, Herder and Digger) as well as a newer character, Baker, go on a quest to throw the ender chest into the abyss and cover it with thick layers of obsidian so nobody can ever open it and be affected by Herobrine's deadly virus ever again. The journey there is troubled,as they argue all the time, only remedied by using wool as earplugs to block out the high pitched whining sound, and on the way to the Abyss they are attacked by various spiders, confirming Gameknight's concerns about the new Spider Queen, Shaivalak, especially after they had slain the previous spider queen, Shaikilud. Meanwhile, Feyd is gathering the other monster kings, Xa-Tul, the king of the zombies and Reaper, the king of the skeletons. Back with our protagonists, Gameknight notices that Herder is acting weirdly and is defensive over the box holding Herobrine's XP which he has been trusted to keep safe, but brushes it off and Baker reveals his tragic backstory, the zombies ended his childrens' lives, and zombified his wife, Fletcher. He looks at his pickaxe, a family heirloom which the legendary 'Smithy Of The Two Swords' gave to his great grandfather Carver and told him to give it to all the bakers in the family line, and is upset that the line now ends with him. The group approaches Two Swords Path (where 'Smithy Of The Two Swords' first pulled out his dual weapons, known to the zombies as Vo-Lok's path, where the first zombie king failed to slay the army of NPCs) and as they enter, they realise that the monsters trapped them and that there is no escape. The whining which usually made it extremely hard to fight seems to die down in the battle. In the battle, Gameknight sees the zombified form of Fletcher, and cures her, though the cure takes a while to set in... The battle continues and Fletcher sees Baker, but just as the two are about to have a meaningful reunion, Baker is jumped by spiders and dies. Fletcher is grief stricken and picks up Baker's pickaxe, and defeats the remainder of the monsters with GK( Gameknight) and his friends. More monsters begin coming and Gameknight sees that Herder and the box have disappeared and there is a nether portal, he realises that Herder has betrayed them and is furious. All his friends but him and Fletcher go through the portal first and the monsters are getting nearer and nearer. Gameknight is willing to sacrifice himself to mine the nether portal so that the monsters can't follow his friends, but Fletcher says that she is forever in his debt to GK for letting her see her husband one last time and pushes GK through the portal as she begins to mine it. The portal back shatters as GK arrives in the nether, distraught. GK tells his friends and father what happened and says that he was always remember Fletcher and Baker's sacrifice. GK is still raging at Herder, and wanders why one of his best friends would betray him. GK gathers some Wither Skulls to use later, as he has a plan if Charybdis, the king of the blazes shows up. Crafter has some potions of fire resistance so the blazes can't hurt them for a few minutes too. The whining grows louder as they approach the great lava ocean, where Herder is planning to dump the XP in the lava so it can infect the nearest blaze or ghast. The group begins to argue again as the whining gets louder and louder but then GK sees Herder at the edge of the lava ocean's shore and rushes to confront him. Blazes attack GK's friends so they drink their potions of fire resistance whilst Gk goes to confront Herder. GK is furious at Herder and begs him to give him the box, but Herder is terrified and steps backwards... He miscalculates his steps and trips, sending the box flying open. The XP absorbs into Herder and GK asks if he is fine... Which 'he' responds to by saying hello to GK... but it's not Herder... It's Herobrine! GK goes into panic and grief mode and runs off. Stitcher asks where Herder is and GK has to point to Herder/Herobrine. GK asks his dad to leave MC so GK's sister brings his dad out of MC. Shawny (GK's real life bestie) and Monet113 (GK's sister) bring all the users to help out GK in the battle. Herder/Herobrine taunts GK and GK realises that Herder didn't mean it and feels really guilty... GK spawns the wither using the skulls to distract the blazes and ghasts. Then GK is attacked by Charybdis and nearly dies but Monet jumps in front and dies, dropping snowballs. GK is fuming and grief stricken for a second before he remembers that Monet is not actually in MC and he also remembers that blazes are weak to snowballs and nearly kills Charybdis but fails. Herobrine tells Charybdis to stop and personally challenges GK to a battle. GK loses and tells his dad and sister to bring him back (which was part of his plan all along). Arriving in reality Tommy( GK's real name) finds his dad smashing his computer, which he told them to do, destroying Herobrine with the old computer. GK fights alongside the users, but then remembers Herder and rushes to Herder's side, and sees his friend limp. GK begins crying for one of his best friends, but it turns out Herder is alive. Now that HB is gone, the battle is mostly won. GK and his friends rush to the nether portal whilst the blazes and ghasts are distracted as are the other monster rulers and they arrive back in Crafter's Village. GK gives a heartfelt goodbye to his friends and then the book ends. The end... for now...
Overall plot- 4.5/5...
CHARACTERS( I will be using a scale out of ten here as I feel it will give my wider range between characters...) ______________ ((OUR HEROES)) Gameknight999/ Tommy Feynman - as per usual, a slightly insecure young man. Can be somewhat reckless, but is also rather cautious. Cares very, very deeply for his friends as always. Best friends are Shawny and Crafter. Very close with Hunter and great friends with Stitcher, Herder and Digger. In this book we see a variety of emotions from GK, anger, fear, grief, guilt, relief, joy . etc . . GK is one of my favourite characters in all fiction, if not my favourite,so of course he gets a 10/10. Monkeypants271/ Richard Feynman (?) (no canon name given?) - GK's father. I don't think his development was shown very well in this book , rather he has better development in Saving Crafter. He isn't one of my favourites but isn't my least favourite either... 6/10. Herder- an amazing character, usually sweet and somewhat quirky but in this book is acting weird. The development is gone and well and I love Herder a lot... just not as much as GK, but I still love the character... 9/10. Crafter- has little development in this book, but I still care for the character. He is generally described as wise and supportive, and as always , I love his friendship with GK. At this point, I think all of GK's friend group are going to be rated... 9/10 or higher. Hunter- reckless, sarcastic, vengeful and witty, very close to GK. I love the dynamic as per usual. Also Stitcher is her sister and I need to note this somewhere. 9/10. Stitcher- my favourite character in all of fiction is either her or GK. I love her she's so sweet and nice and contrasts Hunter perfectly. 10/10. Digger - he's probably my least favourite of the main gang, judging his fast paced development compared to the others and lack of 'a moment' until Mission To The Moon. I still love him though, he's gruff yet stoic, loyal and confident. 8/10. Baker- I think he's a little generic but as my first experience of an 'NPC of the book' he will always hold a special please in my heart. 6/10. Fletcher- same as Baker, though a little less generic. 7/10. Shawny- a great character and a great friend. I like he and GK's dynamic too, but he isn't my favourite character. 8/10. Monet113/ Jenny Feynman- I love her character a lot and I love her creativity and her ability to express herself. She's a little naive but that's okay. She isn't in this book much but I don't mind. 9/10.
((OUR VILLAINS))(note the higher ratings here don't mean I like them as much, as I most often root for the good characters, but doesn't mean you have to)... Herobrine-a great villain, manipulative and very smart. I just love to hate him... He does a good job as a villain (unlike Entity303 *cough cough*) . 7/10 because as I said, I dislike him, but 10/10 as a villain. Feyd- also a great villain, much like his maker, I don't hate him as much though. 8/10. Xa-Tul - a brute of a villain, ruthless. A great villain. Also an 8/10. Charybdis- not too much to say about him right now. We see more of his personality in Overworld in Flames, but even then, he's not very unique and feels like a copy of Malacoda and Xa-Tul. 6/10. Shaivalak - a good villain, she's young and is likely being manipulated by Feyd, but I like her. 8/10. Reaper- not much to say about him right now, he's got personality in The Phantom Virus though, but that'll be saved for another review... 6/10 for now.... _____ Overall- 9/10 _________________ Progression... The plot has progressed this book, Herder got some spotlight and development, and most importantly, Herobrine is gone! This book has major plot and it does feel like the story has progressed. 5/5 for progression. _____________ BONUS 1 - AUDIOBOOK EXPERIENCE The audiobook is slow to say the least, it's beyond me how they manage to stretch 100 pages of arguing of a 207 page book into 4 out of 5 hours of the book arguing. The physical book is a lot better. However, the narrator for this book is actually really good, kudos to you Jeff Holbrook! I love the personalities given to the characters and the emotion, but still prefer Luke Daniels... 3/5.
_________ Notes I like how Herder stutters when he is on the shore of the lava ocean, as it was explained in Confronting The Dragon that he had anxious stutters. This clearly shows that he is scared and I love this detail a lot. There is some great foreshadowing to a big twist in the series in this book which I did not include in the summary, but amazing job Mark! Just like with most other GK999 books, I cried a bit. These books just make me so emotional. ______________ Overall- 8.5/10 or 5/5... ___________________
SPOILER FREE VERSION ____________ A great book which has a lot of promise and amazing development and characters. Great for fans of fantasy adventures and Minecraft. Not the best if you don't enjoy characters arguing, but still a great book regardless. Hope you enjoy!

##spoilers## Mark Cheverton somehow manages to blow me away with each one of his fictional stories! I just sit there with my mouth wide open in shock and surprise. Mr. Cheverton somehow manages to put emotion puts me on the verge of tears! Gameknight999 vs Herobrine is no ordinary book and it only took me one day to finish this book. The user that is not a user and his friends have a major problem! Herobrine’s XP that was captured and put in an ender chest is making an ear-splitting scream affecting all of the villagers. All the villagers are bickering and arguing instead of cooperating with each other to beat the tons of monster waves ahead of them. Soon after, the village make a decision to take the chest far away to an ancient place- The Abyss! However, on their long and dangerous journey the monster kings plan a full scale attack on them. Unfortunately, the ender chest drops and breaks littering Herobrine’s XP until it found Herder! Gameknight999 somehow has to defeat Herobrine without killing one of his best friends. Also, he has to survive the attacks of 5 monster kings, Feyd, Xa-Tul, Reaper, Charybdis and the new spider king Shaivalak including their armies. Somehow he has to succeed or meet his fate! Monkeypants271- Gameknight999’s dad has to be my favourite character not just in the book but the whole Herobrine Reborn series. He acted as a role model giving inspirational advice and setting by example. One of my favourite quotes he used in the series a number of times has to be “When you encounter a problem, split the problem into smaller pieces and attack the pieces”. However, my least favourite character was probably Xa-Tul, the arrogant zombie king who acts with stupidity and is selfish. Though he is my least favourite character he fits in well and makes the book much more interesting. In my opinion, the end of the story was the most dramatic scene with a massive battle. I would recommend children ages 10 and above to read these books as it has some difficult words which are hard to understand. Also, some of the quotes are something a 5- year old wouldn’t understand. This book is well-rounded as it ticks off all the boxes which makes it a wonderful book. These books are popular all over the world and are big hit in many countries. I would rate this particular story a perfect 10/10 and finally to Mark Cheverton, I encourage you to continue with this series- It is fantastic!
I really enjoy this book. This series has always gotten greater and greater with each book, and I love the foreshadowing used for the upcoming trilogy "The Birth Of Herobrine". I like how Mark Cheverton always knows how to keep you interested, and I'm really looking forward for the next books coming out. I know every book by heart, and I know all the characters well. I find the monster kings to be the most unique characters, my favorite being Feyd, mainly because he poses a much greater threat then Erebus, due to his ingenious problem solving skills. I also know every book name by heart, which are:Invasion Of The Overworld, Battle For The Nether, Confronting The Dragon, Trouble In Zombie-Town, The Jungle Temple Oracle, Last Stand On The Ocean Shore, Saving Crafter, Destruction Of The Overworld, Gameknight999 Vs. Herobrine, The Phantom Virus, Overworld In Flames, System Overload, The Great Zombie Invasion, Attack Of The Shadow-Crafters, and Herobrine's War.
I like the story. The plot was OK. I felt like it just was not great and it did not have anything to really get me interested. The characters in the MineCraft game have to go to a gigantic pit to dump a Ender chest with the experience points (XP) of the bad antagonist, Hero Brine. The chest is making screeching noises that annoy the main characters and made them behave badly. I felt that there wasn't a lot of unique things in the story because it was just fighting monsters going from place to place.
I think that the book "Gameknight999 vs. Herobrine" by Mark Cheverton was a action-packed adventure book with several plot twists. I rate this book with 4 stars because although I love twists, if you read the other books in the series and the back of this book, the main twist was really predictable.I recommend this book to people who love Minecraft, wish villagers could free their hands, and would like to see how Minecraft would be so great if they added more mega-mobs.

This was a great book to read with 7yo. We both enjoyed it a lot. Needs a better editor but the story line was good and hopefully 7yo took away some good thoughts about working with friends.
I have read a lot of Mark Cheverton's books and they all make me get glued to them and make me want to read more
I chose five stars because Mark's books are awesome and he is very creative. I always imagine myself as Gameknight because he paints such a clear picture of what is happening
