Another cute and very readable instalment of Noelle's story. This one has a few more serious themes and a twist that leaves Noelle with some hard decisions, and also leaves the reader with some questions about humanity, morality and forgiveness. Noelle is an (auto)maton who is the first of her kind, built as a baby to see if matons can learn to be more like humans, Noelle is now 16 and nearing the end of her research. Watching her navigate High School is like watching a 90s coming of age film, with all the heightened emotions, miscommunications, and this time even a make over.
But Noelle has other, more serious concerns that just graduating, with secrets revealed in this story that leave her with some difficult choices that she isn't sure she has the programming to navigate.
Justine Alexi manages to capture the tumultuous emotions of a teenager through the analytical lens of an android in a way that makes Noelle seem more human than a human teenager.

Another quick fun read. This had me nostalgic for high school relationships with my friends and family. It was interesting to marry my own memories with Noelle, the maton’s story.
Thank you to the author, Justine Alexi, for a free ARC copy. This voluntary review is my honest opinion.
