Banaras: An Afternoon with Sadhus
An Afternoon with Sadhus by Patrick Levy is a deeply reflective and immersive travel-spiritual narrative that captures the essence of renunciation, freedom, and human existence through a single, profound afternoon in the ancient city of Varanasi.Set against the timeless ghats of Banaras, the book introduces readers to sadhus—men who have renounced worldly identities and embraced a life beyond societal norms. Through conversations, observations, and subtle storytelling, the narrative unfolds layers of their lives—simple yet deeply philosophical.
The book explores powerful questions about freedom, identity, and the courage it takes to leave behind everything familiar. It reflects on what it truly means to live without attachments and whether such a path leads to liberation or isolation.

Review of advance copy
Found this book at the Indica book store in varanasi. I stumbled across the store while trying to find a cafe with a functioning air conditioning to escape the banarasi summer heat. As I was looking around trying to figure out which cheap book I can pick up after spending 30 minutes just standing in front of the book shelf, this one caught my eye.
The stories in itself didn't seem quite unique to me. However the lessons learned by the narrator and in turn me, were quite interesting. Needless to say, it was a fun read for me. Finished it in a single sitting
