Swami Sarvapriyananda has been one of my teachers for years now, though he doesn't know it; his lectures (via YouTube) have shaped how I hold Vedanta. So I came to this book already inside his voice, and already inside Advaita Vedanta itself, which resonates with me deeply.

What the book gets right is the oldest thing about Vedanta, which is that it travels as story before it travels as doctrine. The stories themselves are simple, yet each one carries a deep teaching, and it is Swami's commentary that makes those teachings clear and accessible without ever flattening them.
The two that landed most forcefully for me were "The War Camel" and "The Kidney Transplant," fwiw.

Simple and deep is an easy phrase and a rare combination, and this book is the combination, not the phrase.

Learnings from the book Moments of Awakening – Vedantic stores that stir the soul by Swami Sarvapriyananda
1. We all are tied with our bad habits like a donkey. Freedom, Self-realization is there. But we failed to see it. Vedanta helps us to reach higher self. We are in most radical sense, free. And yet we stand, rooted to the spot, held fast by the rope that does not exist.
2. What remained unchanged is awareness. You are the truth.
3. The problem is not a lack of something. The problem is a mistaken belief about what we are.
4. Thigs are dead in themselves- it is we who breathe life into them and then spend our lives running toward them or away from them.
5· From ignorance comes error. From error comes sorrow. Realize – You are the one.
6· This is infinite. From the infinite, this infinite has come.
7· One who loves the god with full purity and devotion. God will take care of rest.
8· Pure devotion does not require system, guru or philosophical framework.
9· The Guru embodied – not through words, but through action.
10· The real pain is the internal storm of suffering that we layer on top of the event itself.
11· In a moment of discomfort, pause and ask: Who is aware of this? Even that small shift creates a little breathing room between the pain and the one who suffers.
12· A turbid mind cannot see itself. Still mind is nourishing for everyone.
13· Vedanta, Meditation is something to be studied, practiced and one day realized.
14· Evry goodness, purity is within you. You need to discover it. And you will discover it with calm mind
15· Non-integration is the first danger for Vedanta.
16· Karma must be activated through effort. Karma accumulates, quietly, for the future. No sincere effort is ever lost.

Stories that stir the soul.

Delightful stories that teach about moments of awakening. Each story enlightens us about our true nature. How what is always, already present within us, is obscured by the false identification with the stories we tell ourselves. We are already free, we just don’t think we are.
