An okay thriller set in the Pyrenees in Spain five years after two local village girls have disappeared without a trace. Then there is a car crash in the area, and one of the missing girls, Ana, walks out of it alive, however the driver has died. But where is the other girl, Lucia? Is the driver the kidnapper? Ana is reticent to give anyone up, saying she actually knows nothing after five years. Inspectors Bain and Campos from Madrid are called in, and they find a close-knit community, unwilling to share it's secrets, even if they harbour a criminal amongst them.
Honestly, though the premise was good I found this book hard going at times. Where the setting was amazing and could have led to a really chilling novel the author tended to add unnecessary detail and rambled on...and on. I felt a good chunk of this book could have been cut out to stop readers becoming bored with it and, even though the finale was quite good, by then I found myself beyond caring who had actually committed the crime.

Ein Krimi mit einer düsteren und beklemmenden Atmosphäre. Ein Thema, das betroffen macht.
Die düstere Grundstimmung zieht sich durch das gesamte Buch.
Zwei elfjährige Mädchen sind spurlos verschwunden, nach fünf Jahren taucht eines der Mädchen wieder auf...
Der Fall wird neu aufgerollt. Was wurde damals übersehen?
Spannend, dunkel, überraschend. Hat mir sehr gut gefallen, auch wenn ich mich an den Erzählstil zunächst etwas gewöhnen musste.

Agustin Martinez writes a chilling, multilayered and intense mystery set in the menacing icy and snowy mountainous peaks of the Spanish Pyrenees, where the small remote poverty stricken village of Monteperdido is located. Five years ago, the village suffered a devastating loss that haunted and reverberated amongst all those that resided there. After leaving school, two 11 year old girls, friends Ana and Lucia, vanished wihout trace, all attempts to locate them fail. Now in the present, there has been a car crash with a fatality, but inside the car is the injured but patently still alive Ana, who is rushed to hospital. This triggers a new investigation to discover what happened to Ana and find the still missing Lucia. Given the mistakes made in the original police hunt for the girls, officers from the Crimes Against Children Unit from Madrid arrive, Sara Campos and Santiago Bain, to work with the local police.
Sara is burdened with her own personal issues and her emotional response to the abductions threatens to overwhelm her. Ana is plagued with memory issues and is deeply traumatised. The villagers put up a wall of silence making it difficult to make any progress in identifying who abducted the girls. The repercussions of Ana's return on both girls families and others in the village is laid bare, Caston is determined, and willing to stop at nothing when it comes to finding his daughter. A detailed claustrophobic picture of Monteperdido emerges, those that dwell there, their secrets, relationships, crimes, and the intrigue. Martinez is terrific in conveying such a strong sense of location with his rich and vibrant descriptions. Whilst the pacing of the novel feels uneven, this is an engrossing and twisted compelling mystery, with a strong underlying sense of loss and is highly atmospheric. Many thanks to Quercus for an ARC.

Their case is reopened and the search for Lucia is on, as well as a quest to find answers as to who took Ana and Lucia, what happened to them and why can't (or wont) Ana recall what happened to them after their abduction.
The book is atmospheric and has a great setting - The Pyrenes in Spain, but it is also a little long. I agree with other reviewers who mention this. This slowed down the book. I believe I would have enjoyed this book had been shorter. I am not a slow burn kind of gal so that is just my opinion. If you enjoy slower paced reads, this might be for you - but be warned it deals with some heavy subject matter.
The Author does paint a vivid picture of a town who does not give up its secrets. Everyone appears to have something to hide, which makes solving this care hard, especially after mistakes made early in the investigation. Loss is also conveyed strongly throughout the book.
When the end comes, will you be surprised? I enjoyed the ending but the journey to get there was long and slow. Again, fans of a slow burn will enjoy this. The story is solid, just too long winded for me. Others are enjoying this more so be sure to read their reviews as well.

Village of the Lost Girls is an amazing small-town mystery that was perfectly executed. Complex, in-depth, emotional, intriguing, atmospheric... this is one that was knocking on my brain all night long.
The mystery is around two young girls, Ana and Lucía, having disappeared together years before. There's a car crash, and one of the missing girls is found inside with the other one is still missing. Village of the Lost Girls wastes no time to get into the mystery, who are the suspects, and all of the background we need to know before we start predicting what happened.
It's a slow but riveting unwinding of what truly happened to the kidnapped girls, and expertly placed twists along the way so even with its 500 pages it never loses your interest. And, like slow burns and murder mysteries all do, the ending was huge. One of my favorite "whodunit" climaxes all year, this had my heart racing all the way to the last page. While giving me the same emotional feeling as Miracle Creek but also being plotted as well as Magpie Murders, this is a small-town mystery that you should definitely consider reading.

To był naprawdę świetny thriller - klimat i tematyka oczarowały mnie od pierwszej strony. Zaginione dziewczynki, duszne miasteczko skryte w cieniu gór, hermetyczna społeczność… wow.
Domyśliłam się winnego chwilę przed wyjaśnieniem w fabule, ale to była dla mnie tak dobra rozrywka, że w ogóle mi to nie przeszkadzało.
Potrzebowałam tej książki, odpoczęłam przy niej.

Die aktuelle Entwicklung des Thriller-Genre geht mir immer mehr gegen den Strich. Schneller, höher, weiter ist angesagt, was so viel bedeutet wie brutaler, erschütternder und unvorhergesehener. Und was natürlich immer geht, sind Kinder. Kinder sind das emotionale Salz in der Krimisuppe. Da braucht man nicht um die Anteilnahme seiner Leserschaft zu betteln, da bekommt sie reihenweise an die Seiten gefesselt. Mädchen sind dabei aufgrund ihrer vermeintlich größeren Schutzlosigkeit noch besser. Das Ganze noch in eine atemberaubende Landschaft gepackt, schrullige Dorfbewohner gegen coole Hauptstadt-Ermittler, schon bist du als Autor auf der sicheren Seite.
Und dann spielt es auch keine Rolle, wenn du den Entführungsfall der damals 11jährigen beiden Mädchen auf ein Martyrium von der Dimension einer Natascha Kampusch, der Marc Dutroux-Mädchen oder Jaycee Dugard hebst. Das nimmt dir die Leseschaft nicht übel. Wer durch Horrorfilme abstumpft, findest es wohl auch nur eine belanglose Randnotiz, dass die beiden Opfer in diesem Buch in einem Verlies in den Pyrenäen im Dunkeln mit Eimer für die Notdurft fünf Jahre lang wie Tiere gefangen und regelmäßig vergewaltigt wurden. Und dann taucht die eine 16jährige wieder auf. So weit so gut.
Was macht die Polizei? Sie schickt sie ins Verhör mit einem männlichen (!) Kommissar, ohne Eltern, der ihr dann gleich mal barsch entgegenhält, dass sie den Täter schützen will und sie der Lüge bezichtigt. Lachhaft. Da hätte ich das Buch eigentlich schon weglegen müssen. Und was passiert im Dorf in den Bergen? Die Touristen wenden sich ab und es wird immer stiller in den Bergen. Wo bleibt die Armee der Journalisten? Die Aufruhr in Spanien, wenn ein Fall diese Art die ganze Nation erschüttert? Stattdessen geht das Kammerspiel weiter, in dem der Autor so rund 10-12 Verdächtige uns an die Backe schreibt. Vom Bruder, über Vater bis zum Tierarzt. Alle könnten es sein. Ich soll also mitraten, wie bei einem Agatha Christie-Roman? Okay, ich entscheide mich für Verdächtigen Nr. 9. Schade, am Ende war es dann keiner der Zwölf, sondern Einer, der vorher nur am Rande eine Rolle gespielt hat. Hach, hätte ich nicht gedacht, schreiben die Reviewer. Da hat der Autorenschlingel mich ganz schön an der Nase herumgeführt, dafür habe ich ihm 500 Seiten meiner Lebenslesezeit geschenkt. Sei ihm verziehen, wenn nicht…

Η εξαφανιση δυο εντεκαχρονων κοριτσιων της Λουθία και της Άνα στο Μοντεπερδίδο των Πυρηναιων ειναι η αιτία που γράφτηκε ενα βιβλιο 573 σελίδων. Η κοιλαδα των χαμενων κοριτσιων. Ε λοιπόν το βιβλιο εχει πολυ (κοιλαδα) και λίγο (κοριτσια)
Πολυ βουνο, λαγκαδι, βροχη, λασπη, ζαρκαδια, αστερια, υγρασία, και λιγο υποθεση.
Οι κάτοικοι του χωριου φαίνεται σαν να είναι προγραμματισμένοι να βριζονται, να τσακώνονται, και να τρωνε τις σαρκες τους ολημερις.
Η προβληματικη υπαστυνομος Σαρα Κάμπος και ο αστυνομος Σαντιαγο Μπαΐν προσπαθουν να ανακαλυψουν πέντε χρόνια μετα τι απέγιναν τα κοριτσια. Σοβαρά? 5 χρόνια μετα? Εμ βέβαια αφου εμφανίστηκε η μια από τις 2 στο ξεκούδουνο ας ανοιξουμε ξανα την υπόθεση. Η Άνα λοιπόν επιστρέφει σπιτι της μετα βαΐων και κλάδων αλλα φαίνεται σαν να μην πολυγουσταρει να βοηθήσει να επιστρέψει και η φίλη της. Και μεσα στις ατερμονες περιγραφές της ερμής κοιλαδας εχουμε και την τοπική Πολιτοφυλακη να συγκρούεται με τη Σάρα και τον Σαντιαγο. Και οσο ο χρόνος περνάει και η Λουθία είναι αφαντη τοσο μαθαίνουμε τι χρωμα έχει και το τελευταίο πετραδακι του βουνου και του λογγου.
Πολύ καλη μετάφραση, εξαιρετικη ποιότητα χαρτιου, στιβαρη εκδοση, πολυ καλη βιβλιοδεσια και μπραβο στον Πατακη.
150 σελιδες λιγότερων περιγραφων τοπίων και λίγη περισσότερη δραση ισως και να του έδιναν αλλο ενα αστέρι. Ακομα και τα κεφάλαια ηταν θεορατα. Κοντα 600 σελίδες βιβλίο και ειχε 7 κεφάλαια. Να θες να τελειώσεις κεφάλαιο για να πας για υπνο και να κουτουλας στα βουνά και στα ζαρκαδια.
Προσπάθησα πραγματικά να νιωσω λιγο αγωνία, να συμπασχω με κάποιον από τους ηρωες. Ομως δεν την πολυπάλευε κανένας τους. Κατι εχει το νερό στα Πυρηναία. Δεν εξηγείται διαφορετικα. Εγινε μια ανατροπη στο τελος. Ομολογώ πως δεν περιμενα αυτόν τον ενοχο αλλα γενικα δεν με επεισε. Εννοείται πως υπαρχουν ψυχακηδες απαγωγεις- δολοφονοι εκεί εξω αλλα θα ήθελα ας πούμε ενα λιγο πιο σοβαρο κίνητρο. Adios και παμε για αλλα. Θα βλέπω Ισπανούς και θα στριβω. Ειδικα αυτο το Μοντεπερδίδο το μισησα. Τοσο που αναπολησα την Πιλτσερ με την Κορνουάλη για να μην το σκέφτομαι.

Huh! U startu sam bila zadovoljna kratkim opisom sadržaja i vrlo nadobudno krenula s čitanjem. Radnja se vrlo sporo gradila. Kada se ni nakon polovice knjige ništa zapravo ne krene događati, već i dalje samo upoznajemo mještane, te teritorij i okoliš nepristupačnog gradića, početna euforija mi je počela opadati. Ono što me je i dalje tjeralo da čitam je bila završnica (mašta pisca), tko je i zašto oteo dvije djevojčice. Brza izmjena vrlo kratkih dijelova ovako opširne knjige prekida tijek i dobar ritam romana. Brojnost likova natjerala me da si zapišem imena i u kojoj su korelaciji s ostalim likovima u priči, kako bih kvalitetnije pratila radnju (čitaj: bilo ih je previše). Likovi su svi do jednoga nestabilni, problematični, depresivni i imaju još poneku nepostavljenu dijagnozu. Detaljno opisano, najčešće ledeno planinsko okruženje doprinosi melankoliji, statičnosti i negativnosti mještana tog podneblja. Kao da je sama priroda poseban lik za sebe, te je u cijeloj priči za sveukupnost romana bio plus.
Namučila sam se s raznim opisima, nebitnim događajima opisanih na previše stranica, ali uspjela sam doći do raspleta. Sve bitno zgurano u zadnjih 20% knjige nije nešto što već nismo vidjeli/čitali. Pozitivno je to što su stranice sada letjele ispod prstiju i dovele me do zadovoljavajućeg završetka. Osobno bih voljela malo više detalja o onome „zašto“, ali i o nekim ne tako pozitivnim likovima koji su prošli ispod radara. Dobra ideja u svakom slučaju, ali rekla bih nespretno izvedena za ovu vrstu romana. Moj zaključak: čitljiv krimić koji preporučam nezahtjevnim čitateljima toga žanra.
„Najopasniji je usamljen čovjek jer ni on sam ne zna tko je... Nitko ne može ispričati njegovu priču.. Kad nitko ne gleda, tko si?.. Nitko ili ono što želiš biti.. Moramo živjeti okruženi obitelji. Ostale životinje to čine radi zaštite, jer su u stadu teži plijen. Naša najveća razlika počiva u tome što čovjek može ispričati svoj život. Svoju priču. Ali ne može ako je sam.“
Namučila sam se s raznim opisima, nebitnim događajima opisanih na previše stranica, ali uspjela sam doći do raspleta. Sve bitno zgurano u zadnjih 20% knjige nije nešto što već nismo vidjeli/čitali. Pozitivno je to što su stranice sada letjele ispod prstiju i dovele me do zadovoljavajućeg završetka. Osobno bih voljela malo više detalja o onome „zašto“, ali i o nekim ne tako pozitivnim likovima koji su prošli ispod radara. Dobra ideja u svakom slučaju, ali rekla bih nespretno izvedena za ovu vrstu romana. Moj zaključak: čitljiv krimić koji preporučam nezahtjevnim čitateljima toga žanra.

Era uno de esos libros que tenía pendiente y perdido en el "monte" desde hace tiempo, que tenía claro que me quería leer y por ello, me resistí a ver la serie. No me arrepiento, he disfrutado mucho su lectura y ahora, igual me animo a ver la serie, jeje

Una novela coral, en la que gran parte del pueblo participa, y mientras los vamos conociendo: su pasado, sus secretos, las pequeñas o grandes rencillas, ...
Un paisaje idílico como marco de esta terrible historia, dos niñas desaparecidas y secuestradas durante cinco años. Y la aparición de una de ellas en extrañas circunstancias, marcan el arranque de esta historia.
Me ha gustado como se ha desarrollado la investigación, pequeñas pistas que aunque al principio no lo aparenten, van dejando sus granos por el camino. No hay muchos capítulos, pero hay continuos cambios de escenario, por tanto desde una posición privilegiada, el ojo que todo lo ve, tienes que estar atenta para no perder detalle y poder situarte.
Hay momentos emotivos: dolor, amor, esperanza y desesperación, que han sido bien tratados.
También me ha gustado el papel que juegan los investigadores principales: Sara Campos, Santiago Baín y Víctor Gamero, como los ha perfilado y la relación entre ellos. Las grandes diferencias entre Joaquín y Álvaro, la reacción de las familias de Lucía y Ana ante estos hechos, como les ha afecta.
Y aunque a mitad del libro he sospechado y adivinado quien era el malo malísimo, he disfrutado continuando con su lectura para poder confirmar mis sospechas, conocer sus motivaciones y descubrir el final.
Un autor que me apunto y cuando pueda, seguiré leyendo sus libros.

I'm sorry to say but this book didn't work out for me. I liked the premise of the story and it felt in the beginning as this could be a good book. However, the book's story never really truly lifted from the ground, it just plodded along. Since this book is almost 500 pages long did it feel like the story just went on and on and on and not much happened. Two girls went missing and one returned and now every male person in the book is a suspect.
I would say that the first half of the book is the best. Then, my interested started to decline and I started to skim the book to get to the end. Was it worth it, well it was good to get closure. In hindsight should I perhaps stopped reading much much earlier. A hint perhaps was the fact that I never connected with the characters in the book, never felt them come alive. The writing is not at all bad, I was just not moved by the story one bit.
So, I will end this review by saying that I was the wrong reader. Many people like this book and if you do think the premise of the book sounds good, go for it.

I always like trying authors from other countries to see how their style compares to what I'm typically used to reading.
Whilst the initial premise of two eleven-year-old's disappearing in the village of Monteperdido only for one of the girls to reappear in a car crash five years later is an instant hook.
On reflection the time spent with Ana in the hospital recovering from her ordeal should have been a clue to the slow paced nature of this thriller.
The narrative certainly goes into minute detail of a missing person's case and whilst some aspects were interesting (like the impact on a community), much of it seemed to just plod on.
The location was one of the novels strongest points and whilst it was very readable, the drawn out length lessened the impact.

Llevaba bastante tiempo con esta novela esperando. Al saber que es uno de "los Mola" pensé que me engancharía tantísimo como los casos de la inspectora Blanco.
Nada que ver, salvando las distancias evidentemente.
Se nos presenta un caso de investigación policial en la que dos niñas vecinas desaparecen juntas en el pueblo de Monterperdido. Típica investigación en la que el caso se estanca ya que las pistas no llevan a ningún sitio, sospechosos por doquier, secretos contados a voces y unos policias que a ojos de la inspectora asignada al caso no saben llevar la investigación.
No he leído nada nuevo, nada que no haya podido leer en otras novelas en las que algo ha destacado; en este caso no ha sido así.
Creo que tiene una extensión demasiado larga para lo que cuenta y han quedado algunos personajes en los que no se ha terminado de saber que pasa con ellos, quedando muy en el aire o a la propia imaginación. También demasiadas descripciones de los bosques y parajes que no aportan mucho a la trama y que se repite excesivamente.
Ha habido alguna sorpresa, pero pude adivinar sin problema al culpable y también la motivación 😅
Es entretenido, sin más.

Desde que salió la serie tenía ganas de verla y nunca me arrancaba porque las horas no me dan para todo lo que quiero leer y ver, pero bueno, finalmente decidí como hago casi siempre, leer la novela antes de ver la serie.
Ambientada en un lugar ficticio llamado Monteperdido, relata la vida de un pueblo tranquilo, mas o menos, hasta que la aparición de Ana, una niña que llevaba desaparecida cinco años, en un accidente de coche reabre el caso. Ella y su amiga Lucía, inseparables amigas, desaparecieron un día volviendo de clase y no se supo más de ellas hasta ahora. Desde entonces las familias están destrozadas, se culpan unos a otros, todos sospechan de todos y nadie sabe nada.
El fallecido acompañante de Ana en el coche es clave para tirar del hilo, Ana cuenta cosas pero calla otras, ¿fue la desaparición voluntaria o no? Creo que siendo observador durante la trama puedes llegar a sospechar de la persona correcta pero aun así, la historia no tiene desperdicio. Me ha gustado como lo ha hilado todo el autor y las personalidades de los protagonistas muy definidas.
La subinspectora Sara Campos y el inspector Santiago Baín son enviados a dirigir la investigación, cosa que no agrada mucho al sargento de la Guardia Civil Víctor Gamero. Entre ellos hay unas relaciones muy complicadas con un pasado no menos complicado.
Es un libro que no tiene desperdicio como he dicho anteriormente, mucha intriga, mucha investigación haciéndote participe de ella con todos los datos por delante. Varios giros que juegan al despiste pero en definitiva, gran trama.
Me apunto a este autor para seguirlo.

Village of the Lost Girls was a beautifully atmospheric mystery set around the Pyrenees, with a wonderfully descriptive sense of place and the claustrophobic feel of a small town living with tragedy.
Two girls go missing- years later one turns up alive, but Ana is traumatised and finds it difficult to remember details that may help find her friend Lucia. Sara Campos, one of the investigators determines to unravel Ana’s memory and avoid the mistakes that plagued the initial case.
The story is imbued throughout with a melancholic sense of loss, the author draws his characters carefully and with detail. The mystery element is clever with unexpected moments and a locked in feel about the town where evil lurks in plain sight.
It is character driven and emotive with an ending that resonates and overall was a very good read indeed.
Recommended.

Monteperdido nos trae una historia entretenida, con cierta dosis de suspense y emoción. Supongo que el libro me decepcionó un tanto porque había visto la serie en TV justo antes de leerlo y evidentemente se pierde tensión narrativa. Al leer la historia me quedó la sensación de que el libro va de más a menos, mejor el primer tercio, un tanto lioso y con demasiado embrollo la parte central del mismo y un final donde se pierde ritmo y la historia se va haciendo demasiado plana.
Es un libro que irremediablemente evoca aquella famosa serie de televisión, Twin Peaks, el ambiente, alguno de los personajes..., y no sé si eso es bueno o malo porque al final tienes la sensación de que esa historia ya te la conoces.
Entretenido, para pasar el tiempo, pero para mi gusto un poco floja.
Es un libro que irremediablemente evoca aquella famosa serie de televisión, Twin Peaks, el ambiente, alguno de los personajes..., y no sé si eso es bueno o malo porque al final tienes la sensación de que esa historia ya te la conoces.

Crime mystery set in the SPANISH PYRENEES

Five years ago Ana and Lucía, both aged 11, were abducted. The investigation gains renewed impetus when Ana is rescued from a crashed car in the mountains. She was travelling with Simón Herrera, a local, whose body is recovered from the wreck. At first he is viewed as the perpetrator of the abduction, causing his wife Pilar to take her own life; however, evidence comes to light that seems to exonerate him.
It is a race against time to find Lucía, who is still being held captive somewhere nearby. Ana explains how the two girls were incarcerated in a refugio, a mountain hut, with a cellar dug deep into the earth. Lucía was regularly sexually assaulted in the dungeon. The only indication Ana can give of the location where they were kept are the ubiquitous trembling aspens, which narrows down the area to search by a mere fraction.
Inspector Sara Campos and her boss Santiago Bain are sent in to take over the investigation. Mistakes were made in the early days of the girls’ disappearance and now the two have an uphill task to unravel village dynamics, rivalries, affairs and general shenanigans. They also have to manage the local police force and the Guardia Civil. Hunting in the mountains is a regular pastime and there are plenty of symbolic parallels between the hunt for deer and the hunt for the remaining victim.
The author details village life with great acuity and charts the family lives that are shattered by the crime, together with the relationships that come and go between villagers. The mountainous setting, with the villages and towns dotted around, is like an all-encompassing cloak that is a character in its own right. Monteperdido where the book is mainly set is itself fictional, although there is a mountain – Monte Perdido – to be found in this part of the world (meaning the lost mountain which seems somehow quite apt).
It is of course a book in translation, very competently executed by Frank Wynne. For me the style of story-telling was a little heavy at times. There are 7 chapters and innumerable long paragraphs; this is an interesting and perhaps unusual construct.
I got rather hung up on the fact that Ana is delivered back to her parents (now separated) with only a police escort (although she does nevertheless manage to disappear again for periods). Surely, having spent 5 years in captivity there would have been psychological support to ease her back into the community and into the care of her mother Raquel. Further, if she had been deprived of daylight for that length of time (and 5 years is a long time), together with an erratic diet, the physical effects would have been very serious – withered muscles, lack of physical development and so forth and yet she just walks into her old home, perhaps just a little thinner than she was.
Overall this wasn’t a book that really captured my imagination and it was a bit of a struggle to keep focus on the storyline but it solidly gets to a well thought out ending. Location is great and really captures the dark, brooding feel of the mountains in winter. The book is being adapted for Spanish TV.

Αρκετά βαρετό βιβλίο, αλλά όχι σε σημείο να θέλω να το παρατήσω.
Οι ήρωες αδιάφοροι ή/και αντιπαθητικοί...
Ακατανόητα μεγάλο σε όγκο, με πάρα πολλές σελίδες του δεν προσφέρουν τίποτα απολύτως...θα μπορούσε να είναι 300 σελίδες μόνο και ίσως τότε να ήταν αρκετά ικανοποιητικό το αποτέλεσμα.
Πήγαινε για 2 αστέρια, αλλά κερδίζει μισό και πιάνει οριακά τη βάση, για το όλο σκηνικό που συμβαίνει λίγο πριν το τέλος όπου και αποκαλύπτεται ο ένοχος.

Es un libro de suspense entretenido con una buena trama que te atrapa. No le he dado más puntuación por varios motivos:
- El libro tiene varios elementos que recuerdan a otros que están últimamente de moda en el panorama literario español. Una protagonista agente de policia con un trauma, que llega al pueblo. La historia que transcurre en un pequeño pueblo, en donde todos sus habitantes esconden algún secreto que obstaculizan la investigación. Leyendas locales que se entremezclan con la investigación.
- El autor, a veces, peca de meter situaciones que no llevan a ningún lado y que solamente sirve para rellenar páginas y relentizar el ritmo de la trama. Al principio, era llevadero pero hacia el final, cuando empezaba a encajar las piezas, se me agotaba la paciencia. Entonces aceleraba la velocidad de la narración en esas partes que consideraba que era paja, vamos en lo que en lectura se conoce leer en diagonal 😂
- El final me ha parecido apresurado y que no ha quedado cerrado. Me he quedado con la sensación que me faltaban páginas, le iba dando con el dedo para pasar la página a ver si había algún epílogo... Pero nada, sólo quedaban los agradecimientos 😧
En resumen, me ha gustado. Me ha entretenido, me ha enganchado en una trama de suspense que me ha tenido haciendo mi propia lista de sospechosos, que al fin y al cabo es lo que me gusta de estos tipos de historias, poder convertirme en detective. Me ha hecho ilusión que está vez he dado con la pista que me ha llevado a dar con el culpable antes que la protagonista 😊 Estaba tan ansiosa por saber cómo terminaba que no he podido a esperar a mañana a terminar el audiolibro, que cuando he podido me he sentado en el sofá a leer las últimas 100 páginas en formato ebook (menos mal que Nubico lo tenía en su catálogo 😂)
Me ha gustado la protagonista, la subinspectora Sara Campos, una policía que tiene que sobreponerse a sus problemas personales, enfrentarse a un incidente con su compañero que le hará tambalearse, y con unos habitantes del pueblo, que parecen que están más preocupados en seguir guardando sus secretos, que en encontrar a las niñas. Y no me puedo olvidar al sargento de la Guardia Civil, Víctor Gamero, que al haber nacido en el pueblo ayudará a Sara a conocer a los habitantes del pueblo. La relación entre ellos me ha encantado.
TVE está emitiendo la serie basada en este libro.

- El final me ha parecido apresurado y que no ha quedado cerrado. Me he quedado con la sensación que me faltaban páginas, le iba dando con el dedo para pasar la página a ver si había algún epílogo... Pero nada, sólo quedaban los agradecimientos 😧
En resumen, me ha gustado. Me ha entretenido, me ha enganchado en una trama de suspense que me ha tenido haciendo mi propia lista de sospechosos, que al fin y al cabo es lo que me gusta de estos tipos de historias, poder convertirme en detective. Me ha hecho ilusión que está vez he dado con la pista que me ha llevado a dar con el culpable antes que la protagonista 😊 Estaba tan ansiosa por saber cómo terminaba que no he podido a esperar a mañana a terminar el audiolibro, que cuando he podido me he sentado en el sofá a leer las últimas 100 páginas en formato ebook (menos mal que Nubico lo tenía en su catálogo 😂)
Me ha gustado la protagonista, la subinspectora Sara Campos, una policía que tiene que sobreponerse a sus problemas personales, enfrentarse a un incidente con su compañero que le hará tambalearse, y con unos habitantes del pueblo, que parecen que están más preocupados en seguir guardando sus secretos, que en encontrar a las niñas. Y no me puedo olvidar al sargento de la Guardia Civil, Víctor Gamero, que al haber nacido en el pueblo ayudará a Sara a conocer a los habitantes del pueblo. La relación entre ellos me ha encantado.
TVE está emitiendo la serie basada en este libro.

Monteperdido – A Vila das Meninas Desaparecidas é o livro de estreia do escritor espanhol Agustín Martínez e dá a conhecer ao leitor o caso de duas meninas de onze anos que um dia, no caminho entre a escola e as suas casas, desaparecem na floresta. Cinco anos depois, e sem que o caso tenha conhecido qualquer desenvolvimento relevante, uma das raparigas reaparece inesperadamente, o que faz com que a investigação do caso seja retomada, desta vez com novos dados e novos atores em cena.
Como o título do livro deixa adivinhar, Monteperdido não é apenas um livro sobre um caso policial e a sua resolução: é um livro sobre uma vila perdida nos Pirinéus, sobre as vidas dos seus habitantes e a forma como o ambiente que os rodeia influencia as suas ações. Monteperdido é, por si só, uma personagem do livro e, quanto a mim, a que tem melhor caracterização. Ao longo das mais de 500 páginas deste livro, são frequentes as descrições vívidas do local e das suas características peculiares, tendo o autor conseguido criar um ambiente muito plausível para a história que queria contar. Nesse sentido, penso que não será muito descabido afirmar que existem algumas influências de "Twin Peaks" nesta história, pelo ambiente sinistro, pela influência que tem nos seus habitantes e também por todos os segredos que escondem.
Este livro apanhou-me a meio de uma fase complicada, com muito cansaço à mistura, o que a juntar-se ao seu ritmo algo lento, não propiciou propriamente uma leitura muito rápida e dinâmica. Isto acabou por ser positivo, porque deste modo pude apreciar com mais calma a história e o seu desenvolvimento. Ainda assim, julgo que Monteperdido poderia ter menos umas 100 páginas; várias foram as vezes em que questionei a relevância do que estava a ler para o cenário geral da história, pelo que me parece que uma melhor edição deste livro o poderia ter melhorado substancialmente.
No final de contas, foi uma leitura agradável. Sem ter sido particularmente marcante, tem um final surpreendente e que faz valer alguns aspetos menos positivos que detetei durante a leitura. Fico curiosa por ler mais coisas deste autor.

The village of Monteperdido, on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees, is in shock. Five years earlier two eleven year old girls went missing. Now one of the girls, Ana has turned up inside a crashed car and next to the body of a dead man. Who was this man? And what does it mean for Lucia, the other girl who went missing? Is she still alive? If so, then where is she? Ana does not seem to be able to tell them anything helpful about those years away. Inspector Sara Campos and her boss Santiago Bain are brought in from Madrid to work with local police. Will they be able to find Lucia and finally uncover who was responsible and what happened?
This is an atmospheric read and the premise was good. There is a large cast of characters and I admit at times to having trouble sorting out who was who and where they fitted it. Perhaps this is largely to do with the fact that we never really get to know many of the characters that well, so they tend to blend together. Added to this is the detail included about so many things that seems like overkill. I felt this book would have benefitted from a serious edit. Although the basics story was interesting it felt like a chore to wade through. I found myself skimming just to get to the end.
Concept was good. Execution for me was the problem, dragging the reader away from what should have been suspense filled. That it was peppered with bad language and had a cast of largely unlikable characters only made it harder to read.
Did persist to the end but the feeling after finishing it was relief. Others may appreciate this book but for me it was too long winded and just an okay read.

Five years ago two eleven year old girls, Ana Montrell and Lucía Castán disappeared without trace from the village of Monteperdido and despite a massive manhunt they were never found. Now a car accident has killed the driver and injured the passenger, a sixteen year old girl identified as Ana Montrell. Given the failings of the initial investigation Inspector Santiago Baín and Assistant Inspector Sara Campos of the Policía Nacional are drafted in to lead the hunt for Lucía and her kidnapper.
I enjoyed Village of the Lost Girls which has a good mystery and several unexpected twists. It is a multi stranded novel concentrating not only on the hunt for Lucía but the effect Ana’s return has on the two families in particular and the wider village as a whole and, as with all good procedurals, uncovers a slew of unrelated crimes. I found the actual hunt and associated crimes quite gripping but I feel that they sometimes got bogged down in superfluous philosophising which took the edge off the intensity and sense of urgency the author manages well at other times.
The characterisation is in the novel is excellent from the flaky Sara Campos to the extremely driven Joaquim Castán, both of whom are not very likeable in their own ways but are instantly recognisable as real. Joaquim is the parent driven to extremes through the impotence of being unable to protect his daughter. Sara gets too involved in her cases, over empathising to the detriment of her health. The village of Monteperdido is almost a character in its own right. Having recently spent time in a similar village in Italy I felt that I could really picture it and its insular society where it’s a completely different way of living from my urban comfort.
Village of the Lost Girls is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Σπανίως διαβάζω Ισπανική αστυνομική λογοτεχνία αλλά αυτό μου τράβηξε την προσοχή. Κυρίως με γοήτευσε η περιγραφή της περιοχής του Μοντεπερδίδο και των Κεντρικών Πυρηναίων και η υπόσχεση ενός ωραίου μυστηρίου.
Αν με ρωτήσεις τι σου άρεσε σε αυτό το βιβλίο δεν θα σου αναφέρω την υπόθεση ή τους χαρακτήρες αλλά θα σου μιλήσω για την περιοχή στη οποία διαδραματίζεται η ιστορία. Αν μη τι άλλο ο συγγραφέας περιγράφει την φύση και τα κτίσματα στο Μοντεπερδίδο με πολύ ωραίο τρόπο που σε κάνει να νομίζεις πως βρίσκεσαι εκεί. Και αυτός ήταν ο κύριος λόγος που συνέχισα με τη�� ανάγνωση, διότι το βιβλίο καθεαυτού δεν μου άρεσε ιδιαίτερα. Δεν είναι κακό , φαντάζομαι ότι για πολλούς θα είναι υπέροχο απλά με εμένα με ενόχλησαν τρία πραγματάκια. Πρώτα από όλα δεν κατάφερα να δεθώ με κανέναν από τους ήρωες και αυτό είναι κάτι που επιθυμώ όταν διαβάζω ένα μυθιστόρημα. Θέλω να συμπαθώ τους ήρωες και να επενδύω στην εξέλιξη τους μέσα στην ιστορία. Επίσης δεν έμοιαζαν πολύ «αληθινοί». Δεύτερον , θεωρώ ότι βιβλίο έπρεπε να είναι 100 σελίδες μικρότερο. Υπήρξαν πολλές σελίδες που δεν πρόσθεταν κάτι στην ιστορία και μείωναν την αγωνία μου. Εκνευρίστηκα ιδιαιτέρως με το τέλος , θα προτιμούσα να μην ήταν τόσο ξαφνικό και κυριολεκτικά από το πουθενά. Είναι σίγουρα ένα ατμοσφαιρικό μυθιστόρημα τοποθετημένο σε μια πανέμορφη περιοχή της Ισπανίας που ελπίζω κάποτε να επισκεφτώ!

Village of the Lost Girls is a slow-burn, atmospheric small town thriller set in the Spanish village of Monteperdido located in the Pyrenees mountains. The village is shocked at the sudden disappearance of Ana and Lucia, two little girls who vanished seemingly without a trace. Monteperdido mourns their lost children, but five years later Ana suddenly reappears, wounded and worse for wear, but very much alive. Now, questions and secrets threaten to suffocate the people who keep them as they desperately try to find out what happened Lucia and the person that took the girls from them on that fateful day.
This book was translated from its original Spanish (and English readers should give that grace because some of the translation might feel a bit off to us. Just remember translations aren’t always absolute.) but it didn’t take away from the overall haunting, constricting feel of the atmosphere. We follow Sara and her partner, Santiago, as they are tasked to solve this elusive mystery. The town is very close-knit, very protective of each other, and entirely suspicious of these strangers who have infiltrated their home and threaten to unravel secrets long guarded. This tension makes things difficult for Sara and Santiago as they try to uncover the truth.
When I say slow-burn here, I definitely mean it. A 500 page cop procedural is a task for anyone, even fans of the genre. This one dragged in places, raced forth in others, it had all the elements of a good procedural, especially all the conflict with various towns-people. Red-herrings were executed rather well for the most part. You definitely got the feeling that you knew who the culprit was only to be jerked in another direction. Frustrating stuff, but that’s what we love about it.
But they glossed over of the state of Ana’s mental health. She couldn’t remember much, of course, but I really felt she should have been more…taken care of, in that respect. It seemed odd to me that she wouldn’t have gone through counseling at the very least. And there were times it seemed like I really was dragging myself into the next scene. I love a good, tight mystery, but this could be a little hard to follow in terms of the details.
Overall, I think it had plenty of potential and if you don’t mind the “slow descent” type of read, then you’ll likely enjoy this one!

The premise for this book was very intriguing, and I thought that it would be a fast-paced and suspenseful mystery. But for various reasons, it just didn’t grab me.
I found the first half of the book to be slow-moving and if I’m being completely honest, a little dull. The second half picked up pace, but I couldn’t engage with the writing style and the progression from one character to the next in each chapter was a little confusing - particularly the use of a pronoun in the opening sentences instead of a character name.
The story was intriguing, and it, and the need to find out what happened in the end, were the only things that kept me from abandoning it.

La trama es buena y practicamente no se descubre al culpable hasta el final, lo cual se ageadece. Lo único que no me ha gustado es que en cada capítulo cambia de narrador continuamente, sin ningún aviso.

December 10, 2019«Η κοιλάδα των χαμένων κοριτσιών» είναι ο μικρός οικισμός του Μοντεπερδίδο… Μαύρα σπίτια, σιωπηλά, διάστικτα με μικρά κιτρινωπά φώτα όταν πέφτει ο ήλιος. Κοιτάζοντας το από μακριά σου δίνει την αίσθηση ότι εκείνα τα σπίτια είναι κάτι περισσότερο από μια ανθρώπινη κατασκευή. Ότι είναι επίσης ένα έργο της φύσης αποτέλεσμα μιας σεισμικής δραστηριότητας, ίσως και αιώνων διάβρωσης όπως οι οροσειρές που τα ζώνουν τριγύρω. Με τη γέφυρα πάνω στο ποτάμι, το πευκοδάσος με εκείνο το τόσο πυκνό σκοτάδι, που έμοιαζε ζωντανό κάνοντας τους ανθρώπους να ενδίδουν στο κάλεσμα του φόβου.
Σε αυτό το μικρό χωριό δύο εντεκάχρονα κορίτσια θα εξαφανιστούν. Τα ίχνη τους θα χαθούν μέσα στη σκοτεινιά του δάσους ένα απόγευμα που γυρίζουν από το σχολείο τους. Όντας πεπεισμένοι ότι το τέρας βρίσκεται ανάμεσα τους θα προσπαθήσουν να πάρουν τον νόμο στα χέρια τους ενώ ταυτόχρονα οι δύο αστυνομικοί θα βρουν τις πόρτες των σπιτιών και τα στόματα των κατοίκων κλειστά. Όλοι είναι παγιδευμένοι στα μυστικά και στα ψέματα τους σε ένα χωριό που λειτουργεί με τους δικούς του κανόνες.
Ο Αγουστίν Μαρτίνεθ δημιουργεί ένα πολυπρόσωπο βιβλίο σε μια απομακρυσμένη περιοχή της Ισπανίας κάπου στα Κεντρικά Πυρηναία. Το Μοντεπερδίδο είναι ένα χωριό θαμμένο στο πουθενά. Ένα χωριό μέσα σε τείχη, χτισμένο προς τα μέσα, προφυλαγμένο από τους ξένους, με μια μυστική πύλη από την οποία μπαίνεις στην κοιλάδα όπου κρύβεται. Σε αυτήν την κοιλάδα εξαφανίστηκαν η Άνα και η Λουθία. Σε αυτό το μικρό χωριό που μοιάζει κοιμισμένο ανάμεσα σε εκείνα τα θεόρατα βουνά που μοιάζουν να το κρατάνε στα χέρια τους και να το νανουρίζουν. Ένας άγριος τόπος που αν δεν κινητοποιηθούν οι άνθρωποι του, αν δεν βοηθήσουν ο ένας τον άλλον κινδυνεύουν να αποκλειστούν από όλους και όλα, ειδικά το χειμώνα που ρίχνει δύο με τρία μέτρα χιόνι και κόβεται ο δρόμος, σε αντίθεση με το καλοκαίρι που όλα φαίνονται πολύ πράσινα και πολύ ευχάριστα.
Κλειστοφοβικές καταστάσεις λοιπόν και μεγάλες δόσεις ατμοσφαιρικής γραφής σε ένα βιβλίο που ακολουθεί μια αργή εξέλιξη της πλοκής επικεντρώνοντας περισσότερο στη μελέτη διαφορετικών χαρακτήρων μέσα στην μικρή και κλειστή κοινότητα του Μοντεπερδίδο και όχι τόσο σε αυτό που συνέβη στην Άνα και στη Λουθία. Παρόλα αυτά δεν λείπει η αστυνομική έρευνα, οι ανακρίσεις των κατοίκων, οι διάφορες εκδοχές τους για την εξαφάνιση των κοριτσιών αλλά ο Μαρτίνεθ ενδιαφέρεται περισσότερο να δείξει στους αναγνώστες πως μπορεί να διχάσει ένα μικρό χωριό και τους κατοίκους του, που όλοι γνωρίζονται μεταξύ τους, και πως τους έχει επηρεάσει ένα τέτοιο γεγονός. Οι υποψίες πολλές για διάφορα πρόσωπα που παρελαύνουν μέσα στο βιβλίο, ένα κουβάρι προσώπων που όλοι γνωρίζουν τι γίνεται, όλοι ξέρουν εκείνες τις αλήθειες που αν δεν τις πεις φωναχτά νομίζεις ότι θα εξαφανιστούν, ότι θα πάψουν να υπάρχουν. Εκείνοι που έχουν δημιουργήσει ένα μύθο από την ημέρα της εξαφάνισης των κοριτσιών για να αισθάνονται άνετα, να δηλώνουν αθώοι, γυρνώντας αλλού το κεφάλι για να μην δουν κατάματα την αλήθεια.
Ο Μαρτίνεθ καταβυθίζεται στις ψυχές των κατοίκων του Μοντεπερδίδο θέλοντας να βγάλει, έστω και με το τσιγκέλι που λέμε, τον υπεύθυνο για την αρπαγή της Άνα και της Λουθία. Κυριολεκτικά φτάνει στο αμήν τους αναγνώστες καθώς όλα τα κομμάτια του παζλ αλλά και απαντήσεις που ψάχνουν έρχονται να κουμπώσουν την τελευταία στιγμή μετά από ένα μεγάλο αναγνωστικό ταξίδι στην περιοχή των Πυρηναίων που πραγματικά θα αγαπήσετε και ίσως να θέλετε να επισκεφθείτε στο μέλλον. Μεταφέρει όλη αυτή την ατμόσφαιρα που διακατέχει εκείνες τις μικρές κοινωνίες όπου τις καταπίνει η ντροπή του εγωισμού τους καθώς ο καθένας τους υπερασπίζεται τις μικρές του μιζέριες χωρίς να τον απασχολούν οι επιπτώσεις. Θύματα αυτού του γεγονότος δεν είναι μόνο τα δύο κορίτσια και οι οικογένειες τους αλλά όλοι οι κάτοικοι αυτού του τόπου που προσπαθούν να κρατήσουν ζωντανή τη μνήμη της Άνα και της Λουθία μέσα από τις εκδηλώσεις που πραγματοποιεί ο πατέρας της δεύτερης. Όντας πεπεισμένο�� ότι η κόρη του ζει και κάποια στιγμή θα επιστρέψει στην αγκαλιά του ο Χοακίν κρατά άσβεστη τη φλόγα της ελπίδας μέσα του στοιβάζοντας δώρα μέσα στο δωμάτιο της Λουθία συνηθίζοντας σε αυτή τη λογική ολόκληρη την οικογένεια.
Μέσα από ένα πλούσιο σε σελίδες βιβλίο ο συγγραφέας ξεδιπλώνει όλες τις πτυχές αυτής της λαβυρινθώδης κατάστασης που έχει περιέλθει το Μοντεπερδίδο αλλά και πως επηρεάζει και καθορίζει ο τόπος τους χαρακτήρες των ανθρώπων. Η οργιώδης και σκοτεινή φύση του καταφέρνει να ζωντανέψει ξανά τους δαίμονες του παρελθόντος της αστυνόμου Σάρα Κάμπος σε συνδυασμό με τις αδιέξοδες έρευνες προκαλώντας της εφιάλτες τις νύχτες με εκείνους τους ανθρώπους χωρίς πρόσωπο που έρχονται στα όνειρα της σαν δικαστές για να την κρίνουν υπενθυμίζοντας της ότι κανένας δεν μεγαλώνει χωρίς ρωγμές στην ψυχή του. Κανείς δεν βγαίνει αλώβητος από την «Κοιλάδα των χαμένων κοριτσιών». Ούτε και οι αναγνώστες που διαβάζοντας τις τελευταίες σελίδες θα νιώσουν ένα κόμπο στο λαιμό με τις νωθρές εξελίξεις της τόσο επιβλητικής και συναρπαστικής πλοκής όπου όλα ρέουν μέσα σε ένα ασυνήθιστο σκηνικό για αστυνομικό μυθιστόρημα παρασύροντας μας σε ένα ποταμό χαρακτήρων και ενός σαγηνευτικού τοπίου.
Ο Μαρτίνεθ είναι μάστορας στις περιγραφές και είναι το βασικό στοιχείο που γραπώνει τους αναγνώστες στην ιδιαίτερη αφήγηση του μέσα από μακροσκελή κεφάλαια, που ίσως να φανούν κουραστικά, αλλά ακόμα και η παραμικρή λεπτομέρεια υπάρχει εκεί για να εξυπηρετήσει τη λύση του μυστηρίου που απλώνεται γύρω από την εξαφάνιση των δύο κοριτσιών. Σε ένα χωριό όπου το κακό γίνεται μέρος του τοπίου, αποτελεί την καθημερινότητα των κατοίκων βυθίζοντας μας σε ένα άγνωστο και σκοτεινό περιβάλλον στην αρχή της ανάγνωσης που όμως καθώς περνούν οι σελίδες αρχίζουμε να προσαρμοζόμαστε σε αυτό σαν να αποτελούμε μέρος των κατοίκων του Μοντεπερδίδο. Σαν να ακούμε να μας ψιθυρίζουν στο αυτί τα φύλλα των δέντρων που τα κουνάει ο άνεμος τους παρακάτω στίχους…
«Τρέξε στο νερό, ελαφίνα με τις λευκές βούλες
η πηγή της ζωής που σε περιμένει
είναι κι εκείνη άσβεστη φωτιά…»
Σε αυτό το μικρό χωριό δύο εντεκάχρονα κορίτσια θα εξαφανιστούν. Τα ίχνη τους θα χαθούν μέσα στη σκοτεινιά του δάσους ένα απόγευμα που γυρίζουν από το σχολείο τους. Η οργιώδης βλάστηση που περιτριγυρίζει το Μοντεπερδίδο θα τις καταπιεί αφήνοντας πίσω ένα παιδικό σακίδιο και τίποτα άλλο επισημαίνοντας μόνο το σημείο της εξαφάνισης. Κανένα στοιχείο, κανένα ίχνος. Σαν να μην υπήρξαν ποτέ. Οι αρχές, μετά από άκαρπες προσπάθειες, θα χαρακτηρίσουν την υπόθεση των κοριτσιών ως cold case και θα την τοποθετήσουν στο αρχείο. Το μόνο που θα θυμίζει ότι κάποτε η Άνα και η Λουθία ήταν μέρος του μικρού χωριού είναι οι εκδηλώσεις μνήμης που γίνονται κάθε χρόνο την ημέρα της εξαφάνισης τους. Ένα γεγονός που μετά από πέντε χρόνια έχει αρχίσει να εξασθενεί τόσο όπως και έρευνες για την ανεύρεση τους.
Μέχρι, που εντελώς ξαφνικά, θα κάνει την εμφάνιση της η Άνα μέσα στα συντρίμμια ενός αυτοκινήτου, δίπλα σε έναν νεκρό άντρα. Η ίδια είναι τραυματισμένη αλλά ζωντανή. Η υπόθεση της εξαφάνισης των κοριτσιών θα ανοίξει ξανά ξεκινώντας έναν αγώνα ενάντια στο χρόνο που ζητά απαντήσεις. Ποιος είναι ο νεκρός; Ποιος είχε απαγάγει τα κορίτσια; Η Λουθία είναι ακόμα ζωντανή; Ένα ολόκληρο χωριό παλεύει να προσαρμοστεί στα νέα δεδομένα και ακόμα περισσότερο οι οικογένειες των δύο κοριτσιών. Την υπόθεση θα αναλάβουν αυτή τη φορά ο αστυνόμος Σαντιάγο Μπαΐν και η νεαρή υπαστυνόμος Σάρα Κάμπος της Υποδιεύθυνσης Προστασίας Ανηλίκων. Θα συνεργαστούν με την τοπική Πολιτοφυλακή και τον Βίκτορ Γκαμέρο ανακαλύπτοντας ότι πριν πέντε χρόνια οι έρευνες έφεραν πολλά λάθη με ημιτελείς καταθέσεις, καθυστερήσεις της αστυνομικής παρέμβασης και ατελέσφορες ανακρίσεις που θα τους οδηγήσουν σε έναν αδιέξοδο λαβύρινθο αλλά και σε μια ανελέητη καταδίωξη που θα θέσει σε κίνδυνο τις ζωές τους.

Muy buena novela de suspense donde nos encontramos en un pueblecito oscense llamado Monteperdido en las inmediaciones de Barbastro. Aquí se produce un secuestro de dos niñas de 11 años que 5 años después cuando una de las niñas aparece viva tras un accidente de coche no había tenido noticias fructiferas por parte de la guardia civil.
La policía se encarga entonces del asunto intentando saber donde se encuentra la otra niña secuestrada.
Al tratarse de un pueblo pequeño donde todo el mundo se conoce la investigación se encontrará con varias trabas por parte de los habitantes del municipio además de algún que otro problema con familiares e incluso con la propia niña encontrada.
Varias personas son sospechosas de haber llevado a cabo el secuestro y Sara Campos junto con Santiafo Baian se enfretaran a una tediosa investigación que les llevara a dar varias vueltas al asunto, encontrando las trabas anteriormente mencionadas.
La verdad es que el culpable final no te lo hueles en ningun momento, cosa que se agradece. El entorno de la investigación; en el pirineo oscense, acompaña a la novela (en esto tiene cierto tufillo a otra novelas policiacas como pudiera ser La Trilogía Del Baztan).
Me ha gustado bastante.
La policía se encarga entonces del asunto intentando saber donde se encuentra la otra niña secuestrada.

I found this story to have good potential, but was very boring. It centers around the kidnapping of 2 11-year-old girls, Ana and Lucia. 5 years passes without a word and the families are still holding out hope. Then Ana reappears, the victim of a car accident, but Lucia doesn't. The book focuses on the police detectives work to draw the full story of what happened out of Ana while also searching for Lucia and trying to identify the kidnapper.
This book is very long, and goes into extreme detail about everything from the landscape to the inner monologues of the characters. This level of detail took away from the excitement of the story. There were also so many characters in the book that it was hard to keep them all straight, and when the villain is uncovered, while surprising, it didn't mean a lot because the reader had so many people from which to choose., and didn't get to know any of them that well.
Overall, this just wasn't the book for me- I wouldn't recommend it to those who are looking for a fast-paced mystery. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
