When Erick disappeared it wasn’t that big of a surprise. Ben’s drug-addicted, lowlife brother was always pissing off dangerous people, so it was easy to assume he’d made the wrong person mad. Sure it sucked, but Ben got over it.
Then one night, four years after Erick vanished, Ben comes face-to-face with a mysterious man with silver hair, the same person who was last seen with Erick. After a failed attempt to get answers from him, Ben becomes obsessed with finding the silver-haired man he’s sure killed his brother. Though who he ends up finding isn’t quite his brother’s killer, but an odd young man with pointed ears, who brings Ben to a new world that he’d never fathomed existed.
And all the more baffling, this strange-looking young man is telling Ben that not only does he need Ben to help him save their kingdom from a rebel king…
Quil Carter has been writing stories since he learned how to write. Now that people seem to like his stories, this is pretty much what he is planning on doing with his life.
5 STARS FOR BOOK 1 & 2 IN COMBINED GRAPHIC NOVEL EDITION There is also a non graphic (meaning non explicit in this example) of this novel too for younger readers. If you love fantasy then I doubt it matters as YA readers will have access to a less explicit novel.
BOOK ONE 4.75 STARS I absolutely loved Quil Carter's new series The God's Games, it's a fantastic new high fantasy series that Quil has finally released.
After revising and refining it numerous times since he was 14 years old, it was his first attempt at writing and although Quil's dreams of one day becoming a published author has already been fulfilled with the release of the Fallocaust series, by releasing The God's Games to the public it's evident in the dedication, which is written to the 14 y/o Quil by the way, just how important the release of this particular novel is to him personally. It was a nice touch and well done because it's not cheesy and a bit tongue in cheek.
The God's Game's also moves right away from Quil's previously published series which is an extremely dark and nasty futuristic, dystopian world from hell, it's another amazing series though.
Quil is also never short for words, making his novels massive. This is no exception to his rule either and is an epic journey about three young men, one human and two elves, Ben, Teal and Malagant. It begins on earth before the real adventure takes off and because he likes to take his time to unravel his stories he keeps them at a good pace, maintaining your interest through character development and an excellent storyline. This book reminded me of fantasy novels I read growing up in the 80's and it's just as good.
The three young men called upon to play this round of the God's games don't know each other and obtaining one of them is done in a nasty fashion but as the first two begin this quest, the third comes along to their rescue pulling them out of a nasty situation, one of many that they face and that continue to get worse as time progresses.
They're given clues on how to go about finishing whatever their monumental mission is on Elron in a book the begins to mysteriously write cryptic clues, riddles and poems once the games begin and given assistance by Anea's P.A lol, a demigod Kelakheva, who was appointed by the Elder God Anea, to further assist them along the way to over throw any tyrant in charge of the land's or keep peace by stopping wars with the Jewel of Elron which is handed to them by Kelakheva each time a mission begins and they chosen and known as path walkers.
Anea who vanished after handing over control to the demigod Kelakheva was shortly followed by his children, but something is seriously amiss this time around as the three MC's Ben, Teal and Malagant are constantly directed into harms way.
I was really taken with this fantasy story, which consists of many twists and turns but overall it's just an excellent read that contains one of the best cliff hangers ever at the end of Book One.
I think I'd be beside myself if the second novel wasn't included and I didn't even come up for air as I continued on read Book Two :) :) Quil that would have been an EVIL ending ;) having to wait for book two to come out would have been pure torture!
BOOK TWO 5 STARS
There isn't a single second of time dividing book one from book two. It begins immediately from where book one left off, yet it's even more action packed, it's a touch shorter but more harrowing and a real edge of your seat ride as the story ploughs on. I can't wait to see where this series goes.
Quil had done it again, I never thought I would be able to find another book series as amazing and imaginative as Fallocaust, but he proved me wrong. This book proves he's not a one trick pony. The characters in this book have so much depth and character, you will fall in love with them, both good and evil. After reading the last book in Fallocaust series i have been eagerly waiting for Quil's next book, and i was worried that because it wasn't part of the falloucaust series i wouldn't enjoy it as much, but i was wrong, its just as amazing, I couldn’t put it down, and I devoured it in a day, i can't say it enough, i love love love it. I also like that there is a not so graphic version so i can recommend it to my friends. So to sum it up READ THIS BOOK, and thank you Quil for starting a new series i can obsess about!!
I really REALLY tried with this one. I started it a while ago, didn’t feel like reading it, put it down. Picked back up. Put it down. Picked back up with the intention to just get through the beginning. This book has glowing reviews. It’s supposed to be amazing and awesome. So, knowing that I pushed and pushed and. I can’t. 155 pages in I’m still bored and what’s more I don’t like the writing. I would persevere if the writing wouldn’t annoy me. But it’s a bit too simple, stating the obvious, overexplaining all the small things. Meh. Reading it just doesn’t feel good. So I’m giving up. Regretfully.
I can’t express how much I loved this fantastic book. So I won’t even try. Quil Carter has an imagination beyond brilliant. So it’s hard to take in that this book was started when Quil was a wee lad, 14 years old! Astounding. Now I’m rubbing my hands in glee looking forward to book 2! Gotta find out what happens to Ben, Teal, and Malagant. Not to mention King Erick. Both of him, human/other lol! With the length of this book, it could take several years and if so, I’ll be waiting.
This was better than I expected. I will admit I was expecting something a little bit more darker coming from Quil, however, it was still a really good book.
Some parts of the book dragged on, while other parts drew you in and kept you entertained for hundreds of pages.
I love Teal, he is my favorite character. He is so sweet and adorable. I was a little shocked that Ben didn't pick up on who he was from the beginning, I thought it was obvious.
Quil writes an amazing adventure that draws you in. I am so looking forward to reading the next book.
I’m going to be super honest here because this book deserves your attention. I’m going to start by saying I find the beginning of fantasy stories hard to read, the new names, places, magic, races, wars, Kingdoms...it always melts my brain until finally it starts clicking into place. The first half of this book is super vague. I feel like I didn’t learn much and the characters just kind of went about their lives learning how to be a part of their new world. I was waiting for new information and I got...some. There is little to no romance and I’m 100% ok with that but there was little of that suspense and tension I love in a good fantasy book...until just before halfway and then this book will blow your mind. It was such a thrilling ride and some of the times I was terrified! It made me appreciate the beginning more. That quiet learning of characters, the building of trust and friendship. A reality of a prophecy the is a lot more complicated than it seems. If you’re a fan of dark fantasy then give this book a try, I have a feeling book 2 is going to be brilliant!!
First of all, the charas are interesting and lovable. The dialogue between them is witty without even trying too hard. Second, I love the dynamic between the protagonists. It feels so natural and pure (even though this is a graphic novel) which makes it so fresh.
The plot is a little predictable though. I dunno, maybe because the author gives a lot of clues especially with the identity of the main antagonists. But perhaps that is to gradually introduce a plot twist to the readers.
Other than that, the novels is pretty awesome. This is one of the few M/M fantasy novels I've read that I found really engaging - and I've read quite a number of them.
The good things about this book outweigh the petty issues I have with it.
Four and a half stars! Started out really slow, but by the last quarter of the first volume it got so good that I stayed up all night to finish the book. I just wish there wasn't a cliffhanger at the end, since there is no date available for when we can see a conclusion to this story.
DNF @ chapter 3. I was ready to DNF reading the prologue but wanted to give it more of a chance. The prologue contains everything I hate about pretentiously written fantasy books. It’s long and info dumps a ton of unpronounceable made-up names and places and adds nothing to the plot so far. Because when chapter one starts, the story does a complete 180 and it’s set in the modern-day with an unlikeable drug runner and his pure-hearted immigrant roommate he wants to corrupt.
I initially thought this was supposed to be a graphic novel because of the description in the title, but unfortunately not. Just means that version of the book is “explicit”.
There’s also a lot of typos and while written in third-person, it randomly jumps from one character’s perspective to another and makes it very distracting to read. Anyways, from what I’ve read, I’m not interested in reading more.
Starting this book was hard. It really jumps right into another world and leaves the reader feeling a little lost. A lot of names of places, people, things and a lot to keep track of, but don’t worry, Quil does an excellent job of filling you in as the story progresses and boy does it ever. The stuff that makes no sense in the beginning comes back in the most bone chilling ways and the riddles start to make more sense. The characters are well developed, though not quite as well as those in Fallocaust, but still relatable. I will admit, I was trying to guess where things were going the entire time and I never was right, which I loved. Predictable is boring and this book was anything but predictable. It left me very excited for the next book. Great job on another awesome book and killer series, Quil!
Just finished The Gods' Games Volume 1 & 2: Graphic Edition (The Gods' Games Series) by Quil Carter. Gotta say, I loved it! A high fantasy adventure worthy of following in the steps of Tolkien. Though the book is not nearly as graphic (despite the title) as Quil's Fallocaust series, the plot and pacing are "Quil Gold Standard." Of course there's also the fantastic and frustrating cliff hanger at the end. The only bad part of the book is that it's the only one so far in the series. Quil Carter write faster! Seriously, now caught in the conundrum if I want another Fallocaust book next (yes) or a Gods' Games book (also yes). Thank you Quil for the many fun hours spent in Elron. Hope to visit it again soon. 😘😘😘
Ok, wow. I absolutely loved reading this exciting story. We follow the trail of Ben, as he tries to survive on his own and head into Birch. We see the pain of Teal and Malagant as they try to come to grips with the fact that the prophecy walkers are broken. The third pendant bearer is gone.
We also get to see what's happening to King Erik, and his squire Sweeny. Dark forces are moving the chess pieces around the game board, and nobody is safe. Nobody can be trusted.
Forces of both good and evil are in play here. The God's Games are dangerous and deadly. Quil Carter brings to life every known nightmarish creature I've never even dared to dream of, and sends it after poor Ben, who is just a human, trying to play and survive the twisted games and save the whole of Elron.
The world of beautiful Elves and gods and their manipulative games and beautiful world of Elron...and at the crux of it all the Jewel of Elron...guys this book is extremely mesmerizing from the enchanting way the world is described to the lives of Elves and the two humans that are turned into hybrid elves! Read about how they make the journey to save Elron...MUST READ GUYS❤️❤️
What a mess this book is. I never thought I'll find myself saying that his other stuff as rape centered and violent as it might be is a better read than this.
Ok. The prologue is ridiculous and I skipped it after a few paragraphs. The premise seems interesting but ultimately I’m just not in the headspace right now for a really deep fantasy.
This book was actually amazing!!! It was so flipping good. Quil Carter is one of my favourite authors right now because he just writes such amazing stories. Sometimes people read books just because they love the characters and the storyline isn't all that great (like the cut and run series). Or the other way round, they read for the storyline and the characters are meh; However this book gives you the beautiful experience of both :')
I loved Ben, Malagant, and Teal as they went on their journey. I'm just a huge sucker for these kind of adventure/journey books. Also there's just something about elves that gets me *fan girling*. This is a long ass book in my opinion but it wasn't ever really boring; There wasn't a time when I was wanting to skip pages or anything which was impressive because I'm pretty bad for skimming pages sometimes. The pace of it was slightly slow in the beginning but it does get into the mood of the book and almost makes you feel like your there walking alongside Ben I thought. I loved reading the book slowly and paying close attention to detail because it makes it so much better.
Yes obviously the main characters are gay and unlike Quil Carters Fallocaust series, there isn't really any sex in this. I think there's only one scene to what I can recall and it's not even with the main characters. I'm definitely sensing a potential threesome in the second book *creepy smiling* hahaha but yea if your wanting this to have many sexy times like Fallocaust then unfortunately you will have to look elsewhere or hold out until the second book.
Anyways if you like a seriously gripping storyline, amazing and relatable characters, and such a well built fantasy world of elves and gods, then you should definitely think about reading The Gods Games. If your not into the more graphics of it (gore, and the like one sex scene ahah) then I know Quil has a less graphic version out which is really cool and can expand to more people. (Also this book to me had a decent bit of horror to it, there was a point in it where I needed to stop reading until it was morning because I was getting so scared hahaha so maybe I am a whimp but I was actually shaking at one point)
I have no words for how good this book was... I finished reading it yesterday and am just now doing my review because I didn't know what to say... I've never read a book with such intricate characters and plot...Ben was so annoying at the beginning of his and Teal's journey...but by the end of the book I love the hell out of Ben...Teal and Maligent were just as love able .... I was so damn anxious reading this book... I didn't know what was gonna happen next and to who.. And let's not even talk about Erick!!!! My feelings changed about him as well ... And the other amazing characters and plot make this book spectacular !!! Not once did I compare it to Fallocaust u can't totally different books!!! Quil Carter is one of the most amazing story tellers EVER!!! SMH now I'm not so patiently waiting on the next book
I have become a huge Quil Carter fan. I've read every Fallocaust and Fallocaust companion book out to date, and because I wasn't ready to stop reading his work, I started on The Gods' Games. Quil is a great storyteller, as proven by this book. I read the graphic edition, but honestly, sex, violence and gore are not necessary to enhance the experience. (But I'm not complaining.) There is a lot of ebb and flow to this book - sometimes it's light and sweet, sometimes it's dark and scary - and of course, there are Quil's trademark twists and turns. I am very much looking forward to the continuation of this epic journey.
The first part of the book was a bit boring...but Volume 2 picked up and left me looking forward to reading the next book of this series. I would say 3 stars for Volume 1 and 5 stars for Volume 2. As other reviewers have stated, this is NOTHING like Fallocaust. Cannot say enough about Quil Carter's writing. His works are some of the most original and creative I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
This was absolutely fucking amazing. I fucking love Quil Carter. The lack of sex scenes did bother me a little bit. I was dying for a 3some so bad......guess I gotta wait until book two. Anyways I am fucking ready for the graphic edition :D. Now back to waiting on the next Fallocaust.....
I mean what can I say other than this book was amazing! The plot, world building and character development is flawless dragging you into Quill’s world without mercy and not letting you escape until you’ve stayed up all night to finish it. I loved this story so much that I deeply regret not reading it sooner. But I also regret reading it as there is no sequel or expected date for one, so who knows how long I am going to be tormented for by having to wait for the next book.
