In this sequel to "Karneval in Koln," Dino is making his way into the heart of Munich, capital of the Free State of Bavaria and home of the world-famous Oktoberfest. Bewildered by the Bavarian dialect and trying to get his head around local cuisine and customs, he finally lands a steady new job in a legendary location. But it's only so long before a new acquaintance and the world's largest funfair catapult him out of his everyday routine.
Explore the wonders of Munich in the autumn, learn about local sights and sounds, and improve your German effortlessly along the way!
This book is designed to help beginners make the leap from studying isolated words and phrases to reading (and enjoying) naturally flowing German texts.
Using simplified sentence structures and a very basic vocabulary, this collection of short stories is carefully crafted to allow even novice learners to appreciate and understand the intricacies of coherent German speech.
Each chapter comes with a complete German-English dictionary, with a special emphasis on collocative phrases (high frequency word combinations), short sentences and expressions.
By working with these "building blocks" instead of just single words, learners can accelerate their understanding and active usage of new material and make the learning process more fluid and fun.
André Klein was born in Germany, grew up in Sweden and Thailand and currently lives in Israel. He has been teaching languages for more than 15 years and is the author of short stories, picture books and non-fiction works in English and German.
Definitely my favourite of Klein's Dino lernt Deutsch series. Featuring a love story and Oktoberfest antics, one of Dino's days is so close to an exact day I had in Munich, it's scary!
"Pünktlichkeit ist das halbe Leben“, sagt er immer. Aber was ist die andere Hälfte?" "'Punctuality is half of life,' he [the boss] always says. But, what is the other half?"
German is hard. But, so is life. This is number four in the series of graded readers known as Dino Learns German. In this series, a young Italian man is traveling around various German cities, trying to improve his German by immersion while working his way through. In this book, he gets a job cleaning in a film studio in Munich, and experiences Oktoberfest for the first time. Below is a quote that reveals a taste of the reading level of this book. By beginning at the first book, and reading each book a few times, the learner makes easy progress. I use both the Kindle and Audible formats for reading and listening comprehension practice.
"Das Riesenrad begann sich zu drehen. Wir stiegen langsam in die Luft, Meter für Meter."
It is a 'day in the life of' type series that provides descriptive immersion in German culture associated with important places in the country. The reader follows Dino through his travels, getting reading practice with well written stories for beginners. Since it is a 'graded reader,' each book gets a bit more challenging, expanding vocabulary while practicing old words, but is not a plot-based novel per se. I am enjoying the series, and feel it is excellent for language learners. The next step in my 'journey with Dino' is Ahoi Aus Hamburg along the northern coast.
Wonderful short story to pick up vocabulary and expand german skills. Reading this accompanied with Google translate, I was able to quickly add new words to my phrasebook and get more enjoyment from the stories. After a couple of reads, I am able to understand ~70% of what is said without issue.
The stories that have a humorous twist all geared toward adult language learners, but after reading another intermediate reader series, I feel like I'm learning less as I go. Still great, but at this point it's more retention and general practice and less language advancement.
Monachium to miasto, które wraz z głównym bohaterem odwiedzamy w IV części. Przypadkowo znaleziony przez Dino telefon komórkowy otwiera przed nim możliwość nawiązania pewnej, ciekawej znajomości. W jaki sposób potoczą się losy tego lekkoducha i czy stolica Bawarii okaże się miastem, w którym zagrzeje on miejsca? Man muss es lesen.

I do love reading stories about Dino. It has really good phrases and sentances + I love that after every chapter there is a small vocabulary for the most difficult words. And this one was really interesting. Now Dino is in München and he struggles with new german dialekt and meets new fun people. Also it's really cool to realize that after forth book I understand mostly everything and don't really use vocabulary. This is a perfect series to learn German with pleasure :)
These books are so useful for strengthening knowledge of the German language. This is the fourth book and I am finding it less necessary to look at the back of each story for the translations. I also really like the reading comprehension questions at the end of each short story. They really help to reinforce everything that I just read. Highly recommend these books.
I'm still loving Dino and his antics. I feel that my German is really improving from reading these. I read them aloud to my husband and he tells me that my pronunciation is also improving. After these first four books I have a much better understanding of sentence structure, and coming across grammar in context makes it more memorable (for me) than learning from a grammar book.
Nicht schlecht. Besser als die anderen Bücher in der Serie. Ich magst diese Buch ein bisschen aber wenn mehr Bücher in der Serie kommen, werde ich sie wahrscheinlich nicht lesen.
This was the only book in the series that I actually enjoyed a little, but if more come out, I probably won’t read them. Another pretty good light read in the series as far as pure reading practice goes.
Istoria din München se aseamănă un pic cu acea din Köln, deoarece în ambele Dino deja e angajat și se confruntă cu dialecte specifice zonei. Însă comparativ cu celelalte istorioare din serie, München-ul este bine redat prin evenimente și locații , păcat doar că e mai scurtă decât cele din serie și se citește mai lejer după primele 3 cărți deoarece cuvinte noi pentru mine au fost cam puține.
This is the book series you want if you’re trying to learn German by reading about the misadventures of a lovable Sicilian learning German while living in different cities. It’s really fun, honestly. There’s a nearly humorous feeling when you recognize the sentence you’re reading that is compounded when it is gently funny with completely inoffensive characters.
Ich weiß das ist nicht sehr realistisch, aber ich mag wie unbeschwert Dino ist. Von Tag zu Tag lebt er und seine Abenteuer sind immer lustig. Ich hatte immer den Wunsch München zu besuche, deswegen diese Story hat mir viel gefiel.
These short stories are great. My comprehension is improving with each one. The vocabulary is the right level and the plot is interesting enough to keep me reading, which is great.
