Growing pains are to be expected. With the barrier between Faerie and the outside world destroyed, it's going to take some time for the world to figure everything out.
But some people don't even try. When threats to Faerie and Magic tread a little close to home, Goldie Locke is forced face-to-face with an evil that will stop at nothing...
Another great read in the Goldie Locke and were bears series. All the characters are back along with a few new ones to like and or dislike. I always enjoy the different magical creatures in the story and how they are worked into the storyline.
This book was depressing. From funny and light hearted in book one to showing how awful humans are and how helpless goodness is in the face of humanity at its normal crappiness. What can I say, it was a hard slog.
I just feel like there should be so Much more but on the other hand this is a good place to leave it. Maybe there will be spinoff series idk this book was an emotional roller coaster of emotions
I love this series. I hope there will be more. There's a nice twist to "regular" fairy tale books. It's not one of twisted ones, it's just a different direction.
The minute it seems Goldie finally catches a break all hell breaks loose, again. I never suspected one of the "good" guys to be the evil behind flame....
Probably one of the few series that I had hoped had a happier ending. But this series had turns and reminder that not all fantasy gets the good ending I was hoping for.
"Baehrly Breaking" by Elizabeth Reeves is the fifth addition to the "Goldie Locke and the Were Bears" series. Goldie hasn't had much of a chance to deal with the psychological repercussions of the events that have taken place over the past year to two years of her life. She is on this rollercoaster of endless tragedies and emotions and is baehrly keeping it together. Her main support is Kodi. (Kodi's turning point, as far as their relationship goes, happened when he bit her and turned her into a werebear. Since then he's loved and supported her in many different ways. I can't say that I felt that he was "in love" with her, but there is a more friend/partner relationship there that is on a different level than what Goldie had with Donovan.) Much of the novel is dedicated to help the reader understand Goldie's state of mind and the unresolved emotions she's left to deal with. As a secondary plot, Goldie is witnessing the results of the barrier that separated Faerie and Earth coming down. Atrocity after atrocity is committed by evil individuals who are more than willing to use the idea of magic coming into their world as an excuse to hurt others. Overall, I felt bad for Goldie and was angry that more hadn't been done to help educate the world about the changes that were taking place. One would think that the magical community would have formed some sort of committee to represent them in the public domain.
I love this world that the author has thought up. The two different series in the same world is great. I wish we could see more of other characters. The author seems to have gotten away from that like her earlier books. This story just seemed all doom and gloom. It also had a few errors that kept driving me a bit mad. Uses of words, spelling, and formatting were a few. Don't get me wrong, I know Indie authors have more of those thing than those with huge publishing houses at their back. Some of those errors seemed like rookie errors than someone with over 25 titles to their credit. When you skip scenes, there needs to be some thing more separating it than a period. It throws a reader off, thus throwing the whole "Moment" out of sync. I would still recommend this title. It seems an important step for Goldie. For all of them. I look forward to the author's next book.
I love this series. I love the universe. But it was hard enough losing Donovan and now she's risking Kodi...dammit! You made me cry on my birthday! Not cool, Reeves. Not cool!
LOL
But seriously, I can't wait for more. And since I know from the preview of Deathly Still (Which I'm dying for) I know Goldie and Kodi have some bow-chick-a-wow-wow to get to and some little bears to birth. So hurry up and release more! (That's going to be my birthday wish when I blow out some candles, so get to work woman!)
Not as many typos as all the other books in this series but not as compelling either...I had to skip over a lot of boring parts...the worst was the whole chapter or two with Thantos' ridiculous ultimatum and Goldie's angst over making a choice...it added nothing to the story and spent way too much time in Goldie's head. In fact the whole book wasted a lot of time in Goldie's childish inner dialogue.
I enjoyed this book and indeed I gave it three stars because I did enjoy it. However, I gave it fewer stars than I gave the others in this series because this one just got a little too preachy for my tastes about the evils of humanity, our exploitation of things that are new, and our unwillingness to adapt or accept change. It read too much like an argumentation presentation for an environmental group.
Really enjoyed reading this book, after the previous two books that were quite heavy, gloomy and sad. This instalment brought more light and hope back as the characters themselves went through this. There's a fair amount of errors as has been throughout. It's a shame as they really are good, meaty and engrossing reads. Hope there's another book in this series coming soon. X
Couldn't help myself, sorry. This has been the most fun I've had for a while. I'm hoping you will be penning #6 soon. I'm going to start the Cindy Eller series and I know it will be great. You are a talented writer; keep up the good work.
