A.M. Woodbury writes epic fantasy rooted in myth, divine influence, and the fragile balance between light and darkness. His stories focus on flawed heroes, broken systems, and the cost of standing against forces far greater than oneself.

When he is not writing, he is usually reading epic fantasy, overthinking fictional magic systems, or talking story ideas with anyone who will listen.

A Light Between is the final book in A Fractured Balance series. Everything is on the line in this book, and no one is safe. The tension and drama never let up!

The Veydran use the Corrupted as their army, spreading their influence as they seek to take over the world and claim the Stilllight. The Corrupted are numerous, and it felt like it was so easy to become corrupted. I’m not going to lie, I totally feel like I would have become corrupted!

My favorite part of this book was the Hunter. He was so creepy and malicious. I loved his eerie laughing and the way he stalked from the shadows. He definitely wasn’t someone to play with, but it did feel like he enjoyed himself. His stalking and freaking out Caulin was everything!

I was so torn over Theron. He has so much power that I just wanted him to annihilate the Corrupted. However, I understand his choices. This series is unique because the deities aren’t like how you typically perceive a god. They don’t have the omni attributes (omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence) that you might think of when you think of God. This makes the story more interesting because the solution isn’t a given.

I enjoyed how this series concluded! The last 25% was straight fire! It was one trial or dilemma after another, and it definitely kept my attention!

This series is incredible. The twists and turns, the betrayals and sacrifices, the joy and the terror! I think I’ve been through every emotion known to man while reading this trilogy.

This final book was INTENSE and full of battles, exhaustion, and sacrifice. The journeys and preparations for the final stand, along with the way everyone came together was masterfully done. The sacrifices made by some of the most beloved characters was absolutely devastating but also satisfying and gave closure to even the least known characters.

The book starts off with an intense prologue, giving us more insight into Theron and the other gods origins. It was brutal and showed that they aren’t these infallible beings, but normal people given power who would learn and make mistakes.

The scenes with The Hunter quickly became a favorite for me, even if they were traumatic and terrifying. What a ride! What an end to this trilogy!

When I read A Shroud Undone (book one) I knew this was something special, and it only got better and better. Truly excellent series! I feel so lucky to have been given an opportunity to read these before they were published and will be a Woodbury fan for life!

There is a cost. Always. And the debt has come due.

A Light Between is an absolutely brutal finale to A.M. Woodbury's A Fractured Balance series.

This book is packed with massive battles, political maneuvering, betrayals, lost family, and an overwhelming sense that nobody is safe. The gods are scrambling to build armies through the leaders of the land, the Corrupted are growing stronger, and old enemies are forced to stand together if they want any chance of surviving.

Haethan is such a terrifying villain because he's completely unpredictable. His corruption spreads through fear, grief, loneliness, and lost faith. In a world where the gods no longer have the power to save everyone, that's a dangerous combination. It can be an empty feeling when everything you've believed in starts to crumble around you.

I'll be honest, around the halfway point I was a little worried. The constant battles and military strategy started to feel repetitive. Stay patient. By the end, I realized that was kind of the point. You're supposed to feel the same frustration, exhaustion, and hopelessness that Theron and the others are feeling. He’s already lost, but failing a second time isn’t an option. It made the payoff hit that much harder.

Where Woodbury really excelled was the constant tension felt while reading. I had a pit in my stomach for most of this book. While the battle scenes were written well, it’s his proficiency to write the quite scenes that display his talent as an author. His ability to convey grief and emotion through his characters are some of the best in the game.

Underneath all the epic fantasy action, this felt like a story about human connection. About how easy it is to become overwhelmed and isolated, and how pain and grief can leave us vulnerable to the darkness. The corruption is getting smarter, but the answer isn't some powerful weapon or magical solution.

It's people.

It's holding the line together.

It's being someone's light in the darkness when they need it most.

As the world falls apart around them, Theron and the rest of the cast must decide whether they'll give in to the darkness or keep fighting. Can Theron become the anchor everyone needs and find the balance between order and chaos? Will any of the sacrifices be worth the cost?

A fitting, emotional, and incredibly tense ending to a series I've really enjoyed.

Hold the line, friends.

I burned through this whole series, and it was worth every second. It builds to an intense climax, resolves key character arcs, and finishes on a perfectly bittersweet note. Refreshing, original, and tightly plotted with zero shortcuts in concept or execution—a fantastic conclusion to a great series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well. Apparently this book woke up and chose emotional violence.

A Light Between was one hell of a way to finish the trilogy. The stakes were higher, the pace picked up, and at some point I realized I should probably stop getting attached to people—but clearly I learned absolutely nothing from the first two books.

There’s action, heartbreak, sacrifice, hope, and enough emotional damage to have me staring at my Kindle like, “Surely we’re done hurting me now?” Spoiler alert: we were not.

Was the final battle a little long in places? Yes. Did I still need to know how the hell everything was going to end? Also yes. And while I’m still side-eyeing one particular storyline that left me needing ANSWERS, the ending brought the themes of balance, identity, and free will together in a way that felt earned.

Overall, this trilogy was such a pleasant surprise. The best way I can describe it is more exciting than SJM, but not quite as relentlessly fast-paced as Rebecca Yarros. Plenty of action, characters worth caring about, and just enough emotional destruction to keep me invested.

Four stars—and emotional compensation may still be required.
