Amalie is a maid at the finest hotel in Oslo, Norway. Oskar works in the kitchen. They are deeply in love but his family takes every opportunity to keep them apart. What results is one half of this dual timeline, multi POV story that starts in 1950 and progresses to modern day.

Charlotte is a chef in London and Amalie’s great granddaughter. She’s been given an opportunity to be executive chef at a new, world class hotel in Oslo. She meets Harrison, the architect for the impressive building, while in Norway interviewing for the job and seeing her great grandmother in a hospice care facility. They are drawn towards each other but both have painful memories complicating a new relationship. This is the second half, current timeline of THE HIDDEN DAUGHTER.

Character development and relationships are two of author, Soraya Lane’s, strongest skills. From early in the first chapter, I found it easy to feel the love, longing, fear, hope and desires of these realistic characters. Two couples are primary in the story but the secondary characters are also well established and fill out the storylines well. Amalie’s mother-in-law is one of these characters that is incredibly complex. She evolves throughout the story from antagonist to becoming self aware enough to salvage her family. This part of the story was an intricate, three generations of mothers and daughters; done exceptionally well and far from the usual.

Dialogue is another high point for Lane. It’s unique to each character and moves the story forward nicely. Rounding out the positive aspects is the lovely, descriptive prose. I’ve never been to Norway nor seen a fjord but after reading this book, there’s no doubt in my mind I’d recognize a photograph of one.

“Some things are just never meant to be forgotten” - Amalie whispers this to Charlotte, after receiving the little box she’d left at Hope’s House many years ago. That’s true of of this book, the series and what I hope/believe the subject of the finale of the series will be - a story about the character, Hope.

Ik vond het leuk dat dit boek een andere opzet had en dat dit boek je nog iets nieuwsgieriger maakte naar het verhaal van Mia en Hope 🤗. De band tussen Charlotte, Aina en Amalie is geweldig en vond ik prachtig.

Toch blijven het vooral heerlijke wegleesboeken waarbij je niet hoeft na te denken. Ze zijn zo kort en ondanks dat er wel belangrijke en zware onderwerpen in zitten, voelt het vaak iets te snel en net iets te oppervlakkig. Terwijl ik me wel prima vermaak. Ik hoop dat het laatste deel alles compleet maakt 🥰.

A dual time line and a hidden secret come to light in the next novel of Soraya M. Lane, The Lost Daughter series. I have read this entire series and they are all amazing, but this is my favorite.

Present day London finds Charlotte discovering a box which will unlock the past. She travels to her great-grandmother Amalie and the rest of her Norwegian family. Amalie finds the articles in the box and begins to share her story.

Charlotte is a chef and she gets this dream job. When she arrives, she meets Harrison who is the designer for the hotel she will be working out. Sparks happen, but obstacles might keep them apart.
This one tugs at your heart and pulls you in right away. The relationships, struggles, sacrifices and words were heartfelt and I was immersed in their story.

Present Day: Charlotte is hired as a chef in her hometown of Oslo. In the city she once longed to escape, her path forward will open up doors long forgotten and closed.

In my opinion, this installment in the Lost Daughters Series has the most soul to it.
The descriptions of the beautiful land of Norway is alone worth the full read.

Lane is one author you can count on to deliver emotional punches without doubt.

I'm really looking forward to Hope and Mia's story, I think it'll be the last one!

I absolutely adore the Lost Daughter series. Soraya Lane continues to impress, inspire and stir up my emotions every time I read one of her books, and this one really captured and, at times, shattered my heart. I was deeply invested in the characters’ lives and their challenges. I felt their disappointments and losses. Many moments I had tears in my eyes. This is an incredibly moving novel and one I will not forget. I think it is my favourite of the Lost Daughter series (though I’ve loved them all).

The Hidden Daughter is set mostly in the beautiful country of Norway with stunning descriptions of the breathtaking fjords. There are two timelines with Amalie in both. The story of her life, her tragic romance and what follows over the years. Charlotte, her great niece, shares the plotline of the present and helps with the unravelling of the past. She is a renowned chef who has been living in London. When she left her birth home in Norway to pursue her dreams, she was also fleeing her father’s expectations and control. A rift had developed between them after her mother’s sudden departure. Charlotte never saw her father for eight years but stayed in contact with her brother, the surgeon (who followed in their father’s professional footsteps).

Charlotte receives a call from her grandmother that a special mystery item is to be dropped off to her, so when it arrives she opens the small box to find a diamond ring, a Norwegian crest and a photo within. Her grandmother suspects the items hold a family mystery and this leads Charlotte to consider going home for a visit. This trip is two-fold in purpose as she also must explore a new job offer, at a new prestigious Norwegian hotel. So her return to Norway is both professional and personal as it also allows her to re-unite with her grandmother and great grandmother Amalie. And possibly provide the chance to see her father again after eight years of silence. Maybe it is time to make amends as her brother has often encouraged her to do?

While in Norway, she meets the architect of the new hotel and an unexpected spark happens between them. Harrison is charming and well-liked by the Hotel owner. But he burns hot and cold around Charlotte sending her confusing signals. Charlotte has kept her heart guarded due to some past events but once meeting Harrison, she cannot help her attraction and comfortableness in his presence and lets down her defences. But will this sudden relaxed attitude lead to more hurt or healing? Will navigating her executive chef dream job and romantic relationship at the same time become too much? Maybe but her trip home will give her precious time with her grandmother and also her great grandmother who has a tragic romantic story to tell. Charlotte will learn many great lessons from talking to Amalie that will guide her through her own personal and professional dramas.

Unveiling secrets of the past from Amalie in the 1950s and onwards was intriguing. This generational tangled plot sees the women and men of both eras bound and then freed. One reminder surfaced that we never know how much time we will have with our loved ones and it is best not to procrastinate but rather mend fences while we can. For one day it may be too late. This story also deals with the dire consequences of class snobbery. Views on status differences and expectations can cause great damage, and it did particularly in the 1950s.

I was very moved by Amalie’s story. Learning about her struggles in the past timeline, certainly squeezed my heart and the tissue box was used readily! What that woman endured was sad but her strength and determination to continue after all she lost was admirable. As a result of her willingness to adapt and move in an unexpected direction for the love of her child, she gained so much—that resulted in a happy life.

This is a beautifully written, uplifting, inspiring story about sacrifice, motherhood, family, second chances, maturity, reunions and so much more. The characters are complex, real and perfectly developed. Their growth is easily seen over the course of the plot. They face challenges, fears and have set-backs but eventually rise from the ashes of their trials to learn, love and let-go. The descriptions are vivid and the dialogue revealing. Soraya is a great story teller in all areas but she is particularly a master of conveying emotion. So often my heart was bursting at the seams with various feelings while I was immersed in The Hidden Daughter.

I truly loved this touching novel and look forward to the next instalment. Do yourselves a favour and read it! But keep the tissues close at hand—you’ll need them! There is heartbreaking sadness but also triumphant joy. 5 Stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Alweer deel 7 van deze serie en elke keer voelt het zo comfortabel. De afwisseling tussen heden en verleden geeft het verhaal diepgang en hierdoor leest het vlot. Na ieder deel ben ik meer benieuwd geworden naar het verhaal van Hope, dus ik kan inmiddels niet wachten tot het 8e en laatste deel verschijnt.

Ondanks dat dit alweer het zevende deel is, blijft deze serie me boeien. Extra leuk dan ook dat dit deel weer een net iets andere insteek heeft dan de zes voorafgaande delen. Wat niet veranderd is dat je ook bij dit boek de tissues klaar moet zetten. De mooie, levendige schrijfstijl zorgt ervoor dat je mee leeft met de personages. Er zijn twee verhaallijnen: het verleden, 1951 met Amalie en het heden met Charlotte. Beide verhalen zijn boeiend en hartverwarmend, en alle emoties worden door de auteur zo goed weergegeven dat je echt wordt geraakt.

Vanaf de proloog zat ik al helemaal in het verhaal en tot en met de laatste bladzijde wist Soraya Lane mijn aandacht vast te houden. De Noorse dochter is een prachtige roman over familiegeheimen, verlies, rouw, tweede liefdes en persoonlijke groei. En nu kijk ik alweer uit naar het achtste en laatste deel van deze serie, het verhaal van Hope zelf. Al zeven boeken lang weet je dat het eraan zit te komen en nu is het dan bijna zover. Ik kan niet wachten!

„Córka z Norwegi” to już siódma część z serii obyczajowej „Utracone córki”, które pokochałam całym sercem! 🩵 Każdy tom przenosi czytelnika w inny zakątek świata. Tym razem autorka zabiera nas w mroźną Norwegię, a przedstawiona przez Soraye Lane historia dotyka bolesnych tematów, takich jak: rozstanie, proces mierzenia się ze stratą, burzliwą miłość i nauki życia na nowo. Przede wszystkim jednak przypomina, że miłość ta prawdziwa i głęboka może pojawić się w naszym życiu nie tylko raz.

🩵 Powieść „Córka z Norwegii” rozgrywa się na dwóch płaszczyznach czasowych. W teraźniejszości śledzimy losy Charlotte: ambitnej kobiety z Londynu, która całkowicie poświęciła się pracy. Przypadkowo odkryta rodzinna tajemnica sprowadza ją do Norwegii. Ta podróż staje się dla niej szansą na zmierzenie się z przeszłością i przewartościowanie własnego życia. Na jej drodze pojawia się również Harrison, który burzy jej uporządkowany świat i skłania do refleksji nad uczuciami. Jednocześnie śledzimy losy Amalie kobiety z przeszłości, której historia naznaczona jest trudnymi wyborami i miłością wystawioną na próbę. To właśnie jej decyzje pokazują, jak wydarzenia sprzed lat mogą wpływać na kolejne pokolenia. 🩵

Nie chce szczegółowo zdradzać wam fabuły, bowiem uważam, że lepiej odkryć ją samemu. I nie zdziwi was fakt, że jestem absolutnie zaskoczona tym, jak bardzo ta historia przypadła mi do gustu i jak łatwo było mi się w niej zatracić. Nie miałam najmniejszego problemu z tym, aby w drobny choć sposób zżyć się z bohaterami czy poczuć wzruszenie w związku z ich łamiącą serce historią. Bardzo szybko zatraciłam się w tej opowieści, pochłaniałam rozdziały w ekspresowym tempie, czując oczywiście cudowną, leczniczą magię literatury i klimat mroźnej Norwegii. Akcja książki została osadzona w dwóch płaszczyznach czasowych, co ja bardzo sobie cenię w książkach. Zwłaszcza te powieści, których rozdziały opisujące przeszłość występują na przemian z teraźniejszością. Plastyczne opisy Norwegii, pełne detali i nastroju, budzą w czytelniku wrażenie, że jest obecny w opisywanym miejscu. Autorka przedstawia różne wątki, łącząc je w spójną całość, zarazem prowadząc nas przez kolejne tajemnice.

„Córka z Norwegii” to nastrojowa opowieść o miłości, tęsknocie i wyborach, których echo wybrzmiewa przez lata. O presji oczekiwań, pasjach i stracie, ale też o tym, że prawdziwe uczucie może powrócić. 🩵 Jeśli lubicie historie pełne emocji z pewnością spodoba się wam ta książka. 🩵 Bohaterowie dostarczą wam dużą dawkę emocji i niezapomnianych przeżyć. Bardzo życiowa, bolesna i zarazem piękna historia, a to wszystko składa na naprawdę dobrą powieść z gatunku literatury obyczajowej i kobiecej.

Het boek Het Noorse dochter van Soraya M. Lane is een meeslepende feelgoodroman waarin liefde, familiegeheimen en het verleden centraal staan. Het verhaal speelt zich af in twee tijdlijnen: het heden in Londen en Noorwegen, en het Noorwegen van 1951.

In het heden volgen we Charlotte, een ambitieuze chef-kok die haar carrière altijd op de eerste plaats heeft gezet. Wanneer ze een geheimzinnig kistje ontvangt dat bedoeld was voor haar overgrootmoeder Amalie, verandert alles. In het kistje zit een diamanten ring en een Noors familiewapen, wat Charlotte doet besluiten terug te keren naar Noorwegen. Daar wordt ze niet alleen geconfronteerd met haar pijnlijke jeugd en de moeizame relatie met haar vader, maar krijgt ze ook nieuwe kansen. Zo wordt ze uitgenodigd voor de opening van een hotel in haar geboortedorp en krijgt ze een baan aangeboden. Tijdens haar verblijf ontmoet ze Harrison, de architect van het hotel, die net als zij een verleden met zich meedraagt. Langzaam durft Charlotte haar hart weer open te stellen.

De verhaallijn uit 1951 geeft meer inzicht in het leven van haar overgrootmoeder Amalie. Haar aangrijpende liefdesverhaal en de geheimen die ze met zich meedraagt, vormen de sleutel tot Charlotte’s zoektocht in het heden. Deze afwisseling tussen verleden en heden maakt het verhaal boeiend en zorgt ervoor dat je steeds verder wilt lezen.

Ik vond Het Noorse dochter een fijne en meeslepende roman. Het boek zit vol liefde, geheimen en emotie. Vooral het thema van het verwerken van het verleden en het maken van keuzes die het leven de moeite waard maken, sprak mij erg aan. De personages voelen realistisch aan en hun ontwikkeling door het verhaal heen is mooi beschreven.

Kortom, dit boek is een aanrader voor liefhebbers van feelgoodromans met diepgang. Het laat zien hoe het verleden invloed kan hebben op het heden, maar ook dat het mogelijk is om verder te gaan en opnieuw geluk te vinden.

Another great installment in The Lost Daughter series by Soraya Lane.

The Hidden Daughterl follows a dual-timeline story centred on long-buried family secrets, where a contemporary search for identity is intertwined with a historical love story. As the past is slowly uncovered through letters, places, and inherited objects, the connections between generations begin to make sense. The story leans into romance, loss, and the way choices echo forward in time.

I loved this. It is very much in the Lucinda Riley mould, in the best possible way. An easy, immersive read that is emotionally satisfying without being heavy, and one I found genuinely captivating once I settled into it. Perfect comfort reading that still delivers on heart.

De Noorse dochter is al weer het zevende deel in de Verloren dochters-serie. Tot nu toe heb ik echt van elk boek genoten en hoe verder ik in de serie komt hoe nieuwsgieriger ik word naar het laatste deel.

Net als de eerdere delen leest De Noorse dochter ook weer heerlijk weg. Het leest vlot, heeft makkelijk taalgebruik en vanaf de eerste bladzijde is het genieten met Charlotte en Amalie.

De verhaallijnen van Charlotte en Amalie wisselen elkaar af. Hierbij lezen we steeds in het heden en in het verleden. Zoals in alle delen brengt de auteur ook in dit deel de verschillende verhaallijnen weer op een prachtige manier bij elkaar. Mooi afgerond maar zeker nieuwsgierig naar het verhaal rond Hope in het achtste deel.

De personages zijn mooi uitgewerkt. Ondanks een moeilijk verleden weet Charlotte keuzes te maken en voor zichzelf op te komen. Het is een doorzetter maar ook een vrouw die durft te vergeven en aan zichzelf te denken. Amalie is de vrouw die je letterlijk aangrijpt. Haar verhaallijn is prachtig neergezet. Je blijft nieuwsgierig naar haar geschiedenis en wanneer de waarheid boven tafel komt is het even slikken.

Soraya weet ook in dit zevende deel de lezer weer tot het slot te boeien. De karakters zijn hartverwarmend en je sluit ze allemaal in je hart. Het verhaal is overgoten met een romantisch sausje en de prachtige Noorse fjorden laten je snakken naar het afreizen naar Noorwegen. Prachtige thema’s als verlies, rouw, familiebanden, vriendschap en vooral liefde maken dit deel helemaal af!

De Noorse dochter heb ik weer in mijn hart gesloten. Wat heb ik genoten van dit hartverwarmende en mooie verhaal. Het is nu uitkijken naar het afsluitende deel! Ik kan alleen maar hopen dat dit deel gauw aangekondigd wordt. Wat kijk ik daar naar uit!

De Noorse dochter van Soraya Lane is een prachtig verhaal dat je niet meer loslaat. Het is het zevende deel in De verloren dochters reeks en neemt je mee naar het mooie Denemarken.

Net als de andere boeken in deze reeks, had dit boek twee tijdlijnen; een volgt Charlotte in het heden in Londen en Noorwegen en de andere volgt Amalie in Noorwegen in de jaren 60. Deze tijdlijnen wisselen elkaar aanvullend af en zorgen ervoor dat je het boek onmogelijk kan wegleggen. Samen met Charlotte kom je erachter wat Amalie naar Hope’s House heeft gebracht.

Het boek leest heel prettig weg en Soraya Lane houdt continue je aandacht vast, waardoor je dit boek eigenlijk in een keer wil uitlezen. Ook wisselen heftigere onderwerpen en luchtig gesprekken elkaar goed af, waardoor het zeker niet te zwaar wordt. Daarnaast bouwt alle mysterie en geheimzinnigheid rondom Hope op naar het laatste deel van de reeks, waarin hopelijk alles op zijn plek valt en het verhaal helemaal compleet is.

Ik heb het boek uiteindelijk 4 sterren gegeven en ik ben super benieuwd naar hoe de serie gaat eindigen!

The 7th book in the Lost Daughters series is a must read. It’s very moving and emotional. A captivating family saga set in Norway with plenty of drama and heartache. There’s two wonderful stories linked together across the years and generations, told as a dual timeline, starting in 1950 with Amalie and Oskar. The present day story starts in London, but continues in Oslo, with Charlotte, a chef, and Harrison, an architect. Highly recommend.

Weer een heerlijk romantisch verhaal 😍

Berührende Familiengeschichte vor wunderschöner Kulisse
,, Die vergessene Tochter " ist nun schon der 7. Band der Reihe, Die verlorenen Töchter " von Soraya Lane.  Mit allen vorherigen Büchern bin  ich  mit den Protagonistinnen auf emotionale Spurensuche gegangen,  habe die Geheimnisse ihrer Familien in Italien,  Kuba,  Griechenland, Argentinien,  am Genfer See und in Paris  hautnah miterlebt.  Nun geht es ins malerische Norwegen, um das Rätsel des geheimnisvollen Kästchens zu erkunden,  welches Charlotte   stellvertretend für ihre Großmutter in London in Empfang nimmt. 

Wie auch die anderen Kästchen, die Mia im Haus ihrer Tante  entdeckt hat, bevor es abgerissen wurde, ist es mit  dem Namen der Empfängerin gekennzeichnet. Hope's House ist eiin Zufluchtsort für  schwangere Frauen , die sich in Not befinden. In vielen Fällen wird für das Baby eine liebevolle Familie gefunden,  und  in das Kästchen hat die Mutter  einen ,  häufig sehr emotionalen , Gegenstand gelegt,  der ein Hinweis auf ihre Herkunft ist.  In Charlottes Kästchen befindet sich ein zarter Diamantring, ein Stück Stoff mit dem norwegischen Wappen und ein Foto, auf dem sie ihre Urgroßmutter Amalie erkennt.  Wie passend,  daß ihr jetziger Arbeitsvertrag als Spitzenköchin  in London gerade ausläuft und ihr in Oslo ein spannendes Projekt angeboten wird.  So reist sie das erste Mal nach vielen Jahren in die Heimat  wo ihre Großmutter sie liebevoll empfängt.  Zusammen besuchen sie  die bereits über 90jährige Amalie im  Hospiz,  um ihr das Kästchen zu zeigen.  Amalie  erzählt ihnen nach und nach  ihre Lebensgeschichte. 

Wie auch schon bei den anderen Teilen  wird die Familiengeschichte auf zwei Zeitebebenen erzählt. In der Vergangenheit taucht man ins Jahr 1950 ein. Amalie arbeitet als Dienstmädchen  in einem Hotel im Songnefjord , wo sie den Aushilfskoch Oskar kennen lernt. Sie verlieben sich ineinander und wollen ihr Leben  miteinander verbringen.  Doch Oskar ist  nicht nur ein Koch  sondern der Erbe der Unternehmensfamilie der unter anderem das Hotel gehört und Amalie ist in der Familie wegen ihrer sozialen Stellung unerwünscht. Davon wollen die jungen Liebenden sich nicht aufhalten lassen und schmieden einen Plan,  den das Schicksal allerdings zerstört.  Während Charlotte den Erzählungen ihrer Urgroßmutter folgt, die auch eng mit ihrer Großmutter verbunden sind,  erlebt sie selbst eine aufregende Zeit in Oslo, als sie den Architekten Harrison kennen lernt. Das erste Mal kann sie ihr Herz öffnen,  nachdem sie schon als Kind durch ihre Mutter schwer verletzt wurde.  Wird sie ihr Glück  finden und halten können? 

Soraya Lane hat einem hervorragenden flüssigen  und bildhaften Schreibstil,  der  die Charaktere so lebendig und authentisch erleben lässt,  daß ich das Gefühl habe , direkt alles an ihrer Seite mitzuerleben. Die Beschreibungen der Landschaft,  der zauberhafte Fjord, lässt Bilder vor meinen Augen entstehen und weckt Sehnsucht,  die Koffer zu packen  und vor Ort die Schönheit der Natur zu genießen.  Picknick am Ufer, aufs Wasser mit dem Ruderboot oder zu baden, auch wenn es wahrscheinlich ziemlich kalt ist.. 

Der Autorin gelingt es grandios,  die Zeitebebenen miteinander zu verknüpfen,  die Spannung so hoch zu halten,daß ich das Buch kaum aus der Hand legen konnte.  Ich habe sowohl in der Vergangenheit als auch in der Gegenwart mit den Protagonisten mitgefiebert,  habe mich in ihre Gedanken und in ihre Gefühle hineinversetzen können.  Als schwierige Entscheidung getroffen werden mussten,  die das  Leben nachhaltig beeinträchtigen , habe ich überlegt,  was ich wohl in diesen Situationen gemacht hätte. Ich weiß es nicht  und bin so froh, daß ich nicht in ihrem Leben stecke.   Amalie  bewundere ich sehr für ihre Stärke.  

 An einigen Stellen konnte ich die Tränen nicht zurück halten,  während an anderen mein Herz vor Freude und Glück klopfte. Jede Minute habe ich beim Lesen dieser berührenden  und hochemotionalen  Geschichte genossen.  

Ich warte chon jetzt sehr gespannt auf den finalen 8. Band ,, Die verschwiegene Tochter " der im Dezember erscheinen wird . Dort werden die Leser mit auf Spurensuche gehen , um herauszufinden welches Schicksal Hope  erleben musste , um dieses Haus für die jungen Frauen in Not zu gründen.  

Eine absolute  und uneingeschränkte Leseempfehlung  und ganz viele leuchtende Sterne  für diese hochemotionale,  berührende und packende Familiengeschichte  und die gesamte Reihe, wobei jeder Teil auch ohne Vorkenntnisse gelesen werden kann.  Mehr Genuss kommt auf ,wenn man alle kennt..

Het boek begint voor het hoofdpersonage, Rose, zeer droevig omdat ze niet alleen haar oma een jaar geleden is verloren, maar ook haar moeder aan dezelfde ziekte blijkt te gaan overlijden. Daarom besteed ze in de eerste instantie niet te veel aandacht aan het kistje wat ze ontvangt. Als ze twee maanden later post uit Buenos Aires ontvangt waarin vermeld staat dat haar moeder een enorm landgoed en fortuin heeft geërfd van de familie. Santiago waar haar moeder onderdeel van bleek te zijn, wat nu voor haar is, besluit ze toch op onderzoek uit te gaan.

De personage in het verleden is Valentina, de dochter van Basilio de Santiago. De band tussen z’n vader en dochter is heel erg goed in tegenstelling tot moeder en dochter.

Als Rose Argentinië aankomt en het landgoed bezichtigd is ze zwaar onder de indruk. Tevens komt ze achter dat haar overgrootmoeder Valentina net zo zo’n hart van goud had als Basilio en dat renpaarden echt een onderdeel zijn van de familie.
Op het landgoed ontmoet Benjamin, en nazaat van een van de beste vrienden/rechterhand van Basilio. Als zij het beeldje van het paard laat zien uit het kistje is hij geschokt, want het is zo door zijn vader gemaakt.

Ondertussen denkt ze ook veel na over de toekomst. Enerzijds wilt ze haa appartement in Londen en haar baan als advocaat niet kwijt. Maar deze huidige opschudding laat haar toch twijfelen over wat ze wil. Ze begint steeds meer van Argentinië te genieten en er zelfs verliefd op te worden. Vooral haar band met Benjamin wordt steeds intenser en krijgt een romantische vorm.

In het verleden zorgt een tragische wending in het leven van Valentina, het overlijden van haar vader, ervoor dat haar leven op zijn kop komt te staan. Haar moeder vecht het testament aan en binnen kortste keren is ze uitgehuwelijkt. En dat terwijl ze juist zo verliefd was op Felipe, de zoon van José (de werknemer en beste vriend van haar vader).
Na het huwelijk begint de echtgenoot al snel zijn ware aarde te laten zien en wordt hij ook fysiek agressief tegen Valentina.

Enkele weken later blijkt ze zwanger te zijn en is voor haar de maat vol. Ze gaat naar de oude advocaat die haar vader ook altijd heeft bijgestaan. Ze vraagt hem om hulp en bedenken samen een oplossing, ook al komt ze voor een verschrikkelijke keuze te staan omdat ze haar baby zal moeten afstaan om zo uiteindelijk met haar ware liefde Felipe gelukkig te kunnen worden. Zo komt ze bij Hope’s House in Londen terecht.

In het heden zorgt een brief van de advocaat van Rose voor flink wat opschudding. Ze heeft namelijk het landgoed en alles wat erbij hoort, laten taxeren. Dit zorgt voor een furieuze Benjamin, die zich bedrogen voelt. Rose is onlangs haar liefde voor Argentinië en het betoverende perfecte leventje niet zeker of het genoeg is om haar hele leven overhoop te halen, om alles achter te laten en daar opnieuw te beginnen.

Als Rose in New York is bij haar beste vriendin Jessica komt ze tot de conclusie dat ze sinds het overlijden van haar overgrootmoeder en moeder mensen is gaan buitensluiten. Uit angst of uit verdriet. En dat ze daarom Benjamin nooit de echte kans heeft gegeven die hij verdiende. Maar uiteindelijk met behulp van de beste vriendin Jessica besluit ze toch Benjamin een berichtje te sturen. Dat zorgt ervoor dat ze uiteindelijk enkele dagen later weer terug zit op het vliegtuig naar Buenos Aires.

Ook heeft Rose nog steeds niet helemaal het mysterie rondom haar overgrootmoeder opgelost. In het verleden ten tijden van Valentina is de situatie slecht. Haar moeder heeft er alles aangedaan om het testament van Basilio niet echt te laten verklaren en al zijn eigendommen haar toe te eigenen. Gelukkig laat Valentina niet bij zitten en vecht ze haar moeder aan in de rechtbank.

Maar daar waar zij de rechtszaak wint en het oude testament in ere wordt hersteld, verliest Valentina toch alles wat ze had gewild. Felipe is reeds getrouwd met een andere vrouw die inmiddels al 6 tot 7 maanden zwanger is. Door de II Wereldoorlog is ze niet in staat om naar Europa te reizen en haar dochter te bezoeken (al zouden haar nieuwe ouders dat überhaupt willen).

Maar ook het heden neemt een plotse wending, als Benjamin aan Rose vertelt dat hij zijn opa heeft zien zoenen met Valentina. Hij heeft het besproken met zijn vader, die voorstelde om naar de advocaat te gaan en het mysterie van Roses afkomst achterhalen. Uiteindelijk vallen de meeste puzzelstukjes op hun plek.
Het mooiste einde van het verhaal vond ik dat Rose zwanger blijkt te zijn van Benjamin. Zo zie je als lezer hoe je leven kan veranderen van een vol verdriet naar een leven vol geluk en vreugde. Zo beseft ze dat ze eindelijk precies is waar ze behoort te zijn. Ditzelfde geldt voor het verhaal uit het verleden waar ook geluk en liefde zegegevierd.

Another winner for Soraya M. Lane.

This book takes you through three generations. It's very heart wrenching and promising all at once. A love story for the ages. Two love stories actually. Both interconnected and both just as touching.

When Charlotte's grandmother calls her and tells her there will be something delivered to her Charlotte has no idea how much her life is going to change. Charlotte is a Chef at a very prestigious hotel in London. It's her last night and she is making a special dinner for her co-workers. She is also to be met by Mia. Mia is the woman who is bringing her a delivery. Meant for her grandmother but accepting for her.

In 1950 things were a bit different for females. In Norway a young couple meet and fall deeply in love. Oskar and Amalie. They met at the hotel Oskar's parents own. Oskar is from a very rich and influential family. Amalie's family have no money. They are hard workers but of very meager means. When Amalie finds herself in the family way she is frightened. Not of how Oskar will react. How his family will take it. How her family will take it.

Charlotte and Harrison meet when Charlotte goes to Norway to check out another Chef's position. This time at a brand new hotel that has not even opened yet. Harrison designed this one and the owner wanted Charlotte as the head Chef. Of course they meet and fall head over heels in love. But things are not so smooth.

You get to know the characters in this story well. You may not like some, at least one, at first. But most are great. The two love stories are perfection. Yes the one between Amalie and Oskar is so sad. The love between Charlotte and Harrison is not perfect either. This is one of those books that you have to put down so your eyes can recoup. At least I did. I cried so much reading this story. Sad tears and happy tears. Some angry tears too. It's just a great story that will keep you filled with so much hope for both couples. For all the family members.

I can't wait for the nest book. I've been wanting to know Hope's story and if you've read any of this series you know who Hope is.
