A quick read clearly arranged, though the vocabulary is more advanced than the material. Points for bringing me to a dictionary a few times.
Has the expected origin story, thoughtfully brief, then delves right into the types of decks and some backstory on those.
Most of the focus is on the generic deck content; arcanas, numbers and symbolism. Fairly non-prescriptive with regard to interpretation, though less so for connecting with the cards and considerations for shuffling.
Then there are a half-dozen methods described, in detail, for card layouts. He sums it all up with some tips for doing readings.
As a reference source for card interpretations, the internet will serve you better, particularly if your deck of choice is not a Rider deck (Crowley Thoth, for example), but for card position connections, this book is clear and convenient.
About a three hour read including some following along with an actual deck. Served as a nicely languaged and learned reintroduction.
I found some additional meanings for the cards useful. Ideally the beginners needs to chew on it slowly and with great introspection to fully benefit. A simple guide. An interesting read.
