Shadrac Cain had only three rules in his dealings with the rest of humanity. They were, “Don’t mess with those who can’t defend themselves… Don’t mess with any of my friends. I only have a few, and I’ll not have them troubled… And for the love of God, don’t mess with me… You break any of these rules and this planet won’t be big enough to hide you.” The Dooly gang came out of Texas on a rampage, and they seemed hell bent on breaking every rule of man, nature, and Cain. The law and the elements could deal with the Doolys as they saw fit, and Cain would deal with them his way.
Lou Bradshaw is a lifelong story teller, who spent most of his life as a commercial illustrator and graphic artist. Deadlines, clients, and vendors were all sources of sleep depriving stress. To combat insomnia, he would often create stories in his mind to take the place of what was bothering him. Soon, some of those stories had grown to the point that they needed to be put on paper. Taking up a felt tip pen and a loose leaf binder, he found something new, challenging, and exciting. He soon filled multiple binders and his distraction had become a passion. Upon retirement, he began assembling notes and scribbles into novels… the rest is history. One of the unique features of his work is that as a dyslexic child, he was considered either slow or lazy by most of his teachers. To date he has written 7 books, which is 6 more than he was able to read while in school. His only legitimate book report, although 3 months late, was Huckleberry Finn. Lou and his wife Avon live in the Missouri Ozarks, where they enjoy their family, golf, and the great outdoors.
Good story. Old Cain is quite the character. Glad he survived the killing of his horse. I wish I knew for sure that Rita had a hard life as an Indian slave. Dog is a great addition to the story.

Then he and Ben Blue track the i t her kidnappers as they pilliage, rob and murder people in the way to Denver. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Good western Good western, showing the wild west in all its honor and dirt. I must say I prefer the Ben Blue Series. And I even w went back and read Hickory Jack again, just to make sure.
I did like this book -it was a good western with a bit of a surprise ending. The wild west, in all its glory and dirt.
Lou Bradshaw is an excellent writer and has a refreshing angle on Westerns. I especially love his Ben Blue Series in which this book is a companion of. Great stuff!
My first book by this writer. Had a different style than some others I've read. Is a good story teller and Cain makes it a good narrative. Love the Dog. Worth the time it takes to read. Going to get the next book in line. We'll see?
The trouble Cain gets into is enough for most people to last a month , and that's just till noon. Lots of action and adventure await when you read this one.
This was a wonderful story. I look forward to some more too come. Keep them coming, the story had a good plot and story line. And a just ending. I love those thought of her being a slave to the Utes. Thanks phil
As told from a first person perspective, an engaging rescue and vengeful manhunt. Extremely fitting conclusion how a thieving, murdering, mean female meets her just rewards without Cain compromising his western ideals of harming a woman.
