Another one on the list of must reads of the Great War finished last week and found it a worthy one that endures well. In its favour are some good maps, good insights, good quotes and brevity. Some treatments of this admittedly massive sequence of battles could be offputting to some due to their sheer weight and dimensions (no names) unless you have them on the Kindle etc. It also, I feel, falls into the not-a-Haig-fan camp which may suit some but not all in these revisionist days. Personally I still veer on this side than the apologists let alone supporters of this man that shall I fear remain enigmatic not least because of his modified memoirs and diaries. In closing I read this as a cheap off-the-web ancient paperback which was convenient but am not sure it is available in e-form nor on Google Books for shame. I only found it from looking at the biblio in another book or was it WP?
