Steven Winkelstein is an award-winning author and product designer based in Chicago. He began his writing career with books for younger readers, including Elephant, Elephant, Come Alive!, winner of a Book News Award, and Brisko: A True Tale of Holocaust Survival, which received a Kirkus recommendation.

He now writes adult comedic fantasy that blends absurdity, heart, supernatural chaos, queer characters, and humor of questionable morality. His latest novel, The Day God Got Amnesia: A Divine Comedy, follows a gay atheist barista in Boulder who gets pulled into a demonic invasion after God is knocked unconscious and Heaven’s bureaucracy begins to collapse.

When he is not writing, Steven works in product design, travels in search of inspiration and decent coffee, and develops stories about strange people, stranger forces, and the beautifully unhinged experience of being alive.

Witty, hilarious, and downright chaotic. And can we talk about the whimsical chapter header graphics that tie in with each chapter?! This book honestly is my exact brand of humor and I found myself chuckling as I read. It’s so eloquently done with just the right level of quirky in a read-in-one-sitting, bite-sized-story format. I need another installment ASAP!

Be sure to grab a copy when it’s released on October 13, 2026!

Did Not Finish

Unfortunately this one was a miss for me. The humour didn’t land at all, instead feeling quite dated and making me cringe more than laugh. I also didn’t vibe with the omniscient POV style of writing, as it jumped around an awful lot between different characters and settings which made it hard to get into the actual story.

I did like the chapter header illustrations though, they were a nice touch!

Thank you NetGalley and Sarcastic Crow Press for providing me with an advanced review copy.

Bizarre mix of normal and impossible

Who knew heaven has 1st world problems, like the cost of sunglasses! This is the first in series, it’s very funny, with small details randomly thrown in that are gems, like how dishwasher safe a heavenly coffee grinder might be. I was very disappointed with the end, it just stops. I need book 2 stat.

This book had me chuckling constantly. It was fast paced and my kind of humour. i kind find that jumped around a lot with many different povs and I lowkey hated how the ending just stopped. I need to know what happens. I need part two. Can't wait
