Devil's Playground

Rate this book
She never believed in monsters- until she became one.

Maeve came to Killgore Falls for a quiet life-college by day, cheap wine with her best friend Cara by night. Simple. Safe. Human.

When one brutal night tears her world apart, something ancient stirs within her. Desire becomes hunger. Fear turns to power. And she discovers what she truly is-a succubus who feeds not just on lust, but on the power she takes from the men who deserve retribution.

But in the shadows, three mysterious figures lurk, drawn to her side, bound by lifetimes of lust and devotion:

Atlas, the sharp-eyed, enigmatic professor who sees her for what she is.

Emory, the debonair owner of The Devil's Playground who tempts her to lose control.

Lennox, the mortal soul who has loved-and died-for her again and again.

Power, however, always demands a price. And Maeve must decide what she's willing to sacrifice-to protect the ones she loves, or to finally embrace the darkness that was always hers.

After a lifetime of abuse, one night changes everything. Following a shocking act of self-preservation, she wakes up transformed, with no understanding of the supernatural world she's been thrust into or the powerful connection she unknowingly shares with three immortal men. As long-buried memories begin resurfacing, she discovers that fate has been bringing them back to each other across multiple lifetimes, and this may finally be their chance to break the cycle for good.

This was my first dive into paranormal romance, and I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. Between the vampire, wolf shifter, genie, reincarnation storyline, and reverse harem dynamics, there was a lot going on, but it all came together surprisingly well. The world-building was easy to follow, and each of the MMCs had their own distinct personality, making it easy to become invested in each relationship rather than feeling like they blurred together.

I also appreciated that the romance wasn't just about instant attraction. Watching her slowly uncover who these men were to her and why they were so fiercely devoted to protecting her added an emotional layer that balanced the darker themes throughout the story. Their loyalty to one another, and to her, was one of my favourite parts of the book.

The spice definitely lives up to the trigger warnings. There are plenty of BDSM elements, blood play, knife play, violence, and some MM content alongside the reverse harem relationship. While MM romance isn't something I usually seek out, I feel it fit naturally within the characters' relationships and is never distracting from the overall plot.

Overall, I flew through this book in a day. The pacing kept me engaged from start to finish, I didn't find myself noticing any major plot holes, and for my first paranormal romance, it was a fantastic introduction to the genre and to this author.

Devils Playground was one of those books I looked forward to picking up every day.

The trigger warnings are there for a reason, and I appreciated that the story never treated those experiences lightly. Maeve’s trauma isn’t simply a plot device; it’s the foundation of her growth, making every step of her healing feel authentic and earned.

While the chemistry is undeniably hot, the emotional heart of the story never gets lost. The BDSM dynamics were built on communication, trust, and consent, which I really appreciated. Not every intimate scene was meant to move the plot forward, but they consistently felt authentic to the characters, their relationships, and the longing that comes with souls finding each other again after lifetimes apart.

Each love interest brought something different to the story, making every relationship feel unique and meaningful. Emory brought personality, humor, and some of my favorite lines in the entire book. Nox’s scenes were consistently some of the hottest in the story, while Atlas was the glue that held everyone together and gave me some of my biggest swoon-worthy moments.

The paranormal world was another highlight for me. I loved learning about the characters’ past lives and the centuries they’d spent finding each other again and again. Every new glimpse into their shared history made their relationships feel even more meaningful, and Atlas recounting that history became one of my favorite moments in the book.

Beautifully written, Devils Playground is filled with love, loss, surrender, found family, emotional healing, and enough steam to leave your Kindle blushing. It’s easy to write a book with great spice. It’s much harder to make me care about the people behind it. Devils Playground managed to do both, and that’s what made it a five-star read for me.

By the final page, I wasn’t ready to leave these characters behind. The ending left me eager to see what comes next.

Thank you, Cheyenne Dragon, for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!

I really enjoyed this one! I loved the storyline, the characters, the spice, and especially the way the relationships evolved throughout the book. The whole idea of their connections coming back again and again in every lifetime was such an interesting part of the story.

One of my favorite dynamics was definitely Maeve and her best friend Cara. I loved how fiercely loyal they were to each other and that they would do absolutely anything for one another. The banter between all of the characters was also fun and added a lot to the story.

🌶️ Spice: 4/5 🌶️
There was definitely plenty of spice, and I enjoyed it!

⚠️ Trigger warnings: Definitely read them before starting this book. I felt like the warnings were accurately described and gave a good idea of what to expect.

My only issue was the pacing toward the end. It felt a little rushed, and there were a few points in the plot where I felt like something was missing or could have been explained more. I think the ending would have benefited from a little more time to let everything play out.

Overall, though, I really enjoyed the story and the characters, and I’d definitely recommend giving it a read if the premise sounds like your kind of book! 🖤

Maeve is a twenty-three-year-old woman trapped in a hellish, violent, and aggressive relationship; she is pushed to her breaking point when something snaps inside her, and she accidentally kills her partner. How? She doesn't know, but it wasn't human. It was something paranormal.

That is how the story of Maeve begins—along with the three men who call her Queen. She is a centuries-old demon who dies over and over again, and she intends to break the curse in this lifetime. The paranormal world depicted in the book is wondrous. It is so dark and sultry; I wish I had that kind of power, too. She has a "ride-or-die" best friend who has always been there for her—helping her through the abuse and serving as a supportive confidante.

Her three men have eyes only for her and are helping in the search for someone who can assist. They cannot do without one another. But, of course, there is a price to pay. Are they willing to pay it?

The mystery in the book is addictive; you want to know everything, yet I feel like there’s still so much left to uncover. I am absolutely on the edge of my seat waiting for the sequel!! The spicy moments are woven in beautifully and are incredibly detailed. I also love the use of multiple POVs—it is seriously hot stuff. 🥵 A well-deserved 4🌶️.

😱 Cliffhanger

I loved the variety of characters the author weaved together. Each one has their own personality and look that is very easy to tell apart. I don't think I had a favorite here for once they all have their moments to shine.

The FMC is shown in the beginning to have trauma and domestic violence. So check trigger warnings. Luckily, Maeve had her friend Cara to help her. So jumping forward we see her friend trying to support and help her understand why she is changing.

The MMCs have so much hurt over missing her and the waiting they endured i could see would be excruciating. They are her men who every life time would wait for her. Nox, Emory, and Atlas are 💯 the fantasy supernatural men you would claim as yours. I will say that there is alot of mystery around that ending.

I am happy I got an ARC and experience this author's writing for the first time.

Big thanks to Cheyenne for choosing me as an ARC reader!

First of all, I would like to say that I really enjoyed different and not as usual species of characters in this book. I don't think I've ever read a book with a djinn MMC succubus FMC so their parts of the book, especially parts where they were using their magic, were exciting for me.

As for the story - it wasn't bad, but it didn't grip me, I didn't fall in love with it. It was very fast-paced to the point it felt a little rushed for me. A bit more yearning and developing a relationship first, establishing the plot a bit more before diving head first is never too bad in my opinion. Of course, this is very subjective to what I, as a reader, prefer, so for someone else this might be exactly what they love.

Just for those who are faint-hearted, this book is really SPICY and it's not regular spice mind you, it's a bit hardcore so if you are not into that, this might be too much for you.

OMG!!!! Spicy and fantastic story!!!

What a whirlwind of emotions and feelings!! From the moment it started to the end. It was a never ending rollercoaster.

Cheyenne is able to write so beautifully that what she writes is easy to envision and see without any effort. Almost as if you are there within the pages themselves!

Flashes of backstory however short and sweet are perfect. Providing enough to see and feel the energy it gives off.
It is great to see how she gets each one of them to play off of each other so well. Providing a balance to each other in so many different ways.

And seriously!!!???? Who knew Atlas was like that??? And here I thought it would be Maeve who was in charge!?

I so want to see what happens next! Cause just reading this you know more is yet to come!!!

Wow!

This booked had me hooked from the get go. It is deliciously spicy, has a great storyline and the characters backstory was well presented.

**please check the trigger warnings**
The trigger warnings are important with this one. If you have any sort of trigger towards domestic violence I would probably suggest skipping this as the first part of the book to set up the FMCs trauma is detailed.

If you are ok with the trigger warnings, AKA the menu, then absolutely proceed and enjoy my fellow dark romance smutters!

I was hanging with my bestie when reading this and the sound I made when getting to the ending had her in hysterics! I can’t wait for the next book now!! 🤭🖤

Oof this was a 🌶🌶🌶🌶 read. If you like your MMCs possessive and territorial of their Queen this book is for you.

The content warnings in the beginning of the book let you know that you are in for an interesting ride, I really enjoyed the world building in this book and the relationships between the main characters were super wholesome considering how kinky they all were.

I really enjoyed the flashbacks throughout the story as well as our FMC Maeve getting her revenge on some of the absolute assholes in her life.

In summary, if you like a why choose style book with lots of supernatural entities, this is the book for you.

I absolutely loved the progression of this book from the depth and variety of characters to the hidden aspect of lost memories. The cliffhanger at the end has me needing book 2 immediately and at any cost. The backstory is not only gripping but also one that would pull on anyone's heartstrings. If you're looking for a paranormal romance that includes a Succubus, Werewolf, Dinji, and Vampire that goes back centuries of lost and found love through death and hardships then this is the read for you. Highly Recommend!

Please check trigger warnings before reading!

I was excited to read this book and then once I started i couldn't stop. The book is amazing the characters and their development was amazing and how they met and came together and always found eachother was perfect. I couldn't get enough of it and the SPICY scenes were soooo hot and steamy. And the characters were funny and shes very freaking lucky, who wouldnt want a reverse harem where the men are devoted to eachother and worship her? I loved the book so much but I need more of them please I'm begging lol

The spice in this book is insane!
Cheyenne Dragon far surpassed my expectations with this one. I knew that there would be a lot of spice with a why-choose story with a succubus as the fmc, but the devotion from her guys was EVERYTHING! Hopefully the second book already in the works, because I would love to read more soon!

Slow start

This book was a bit of a struggle to get into, but around 30% in the story started getting interesting. Once I was hooked, it was hard to put down! There are a few plot holes, but if you can look past that… it’s a good book!
