Give me a human FMC that chooses to live in a vampire hive over public execution and suddenly I’m putting my phone on DND because I have plans for the ENTIRE evening.
Reyva, our FMC, begins this story broken by grief, betrayal, and a future that she’s already accepted is over. However, what I LIVED for in her journey was watching her transformation throughout the book. She starts out ready to surrender to her fate, but ends up fiercely fighting for the people she loves, her own choices, and the life she wants. Her character growth was easily the highlight of the story for me.

Rhazien is charming, attentive, thoughtful, and almost suspiciously perfect. Meanwhile, Dommik is the scarred, broken, morally questionable vampire who had me kicking my feet and blushing like a little school girl. The tension between these men, Reyva, and the future of the Hive kept me FANTASTICALLY trapped in the pages.

What I especially appreciated was how grounded the characters felt. Reyva isn’t some invincible heroine. She’s messy, emotional, grieving, hungry, angry, hopeful, and beautifully human. The romance is phenomenally delicious, the spice enhancing rather than overtaking the story, and every slower moment served the character development.

The worldbuilding is dark, immersive, and wonderfully easy to sink into. Between the political intrigue, suspiciously hidden agendas, forbidden attraction, and jaw-dropping betrayals, I was completely invested. More than once I thought I knew where things were headed… and then I learned that was a betrayal of my own making.

Omg, where do I even start with this book?! It has honestly left me speechless, I think it’s because I loved it so much I don’t know what to say. I could not put it down. I stayed up late and woke up early on work days just to read it. And when I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it, so yea I’m a little obsessed. 😂 The characters in this book were perfectly complex and had so much depth. The love triangle was so well done. The tension, the yearning, the betrayals, the spice. 🥵 SO GOOD. That’s about has much thoughts I can muster, you just need to read it for yourself!

3.5 - 4 Stars
First of all, I'm grateful to Gabby for letting me read an advanced copy. (I had already preordered a copy for myself, but it was fun to be a part of the arc team!)
As a debut novel, I was impressed by the world she was able to create. For the most part, it felt really fleshed out, and I enjoyed reading about the original vampires and the ins-and-outs of the Hive. One detail that occasionally took me out of the world was the use of more modern language. Examples: "Yeah." (Could be replaced with "Yes," "Indeed," "Certainly," etc.) "Okay." (Could be replaced with "Very well," "Alright," "As you wish," etc. Those are small details, but as a reader, it pulled me out of the world I was trying to immerse myself into. There were also a few times where a metaphor felt clunky, but other passages were BEAUTIFULLY described, and I thought to myself, "Wow, nicely done, Gabby. I bet she was proud of writing that." (As she should be)
As far as the romance went, I thought that was well done but could have been better. The spice level was good! I didn't mind the "triangle" that bothered some other reviewers, but I wanted to believe in it a bit more. I think this could have been accomplished with a bit more time between Reyva and Love Interest #1 at the beginning of their journey together. It felt a bit like the transition from "All vampires are evil and I can't believe I'm being taken from my home and forced to be with one in order to protect my family..." to "Omg he's so dreamy and maybe I like him?" moved too quickly for me to believe. I just wanted more conversation, more banter, more time to develop tension!
The same could be said for the other "line" in our triangle, Love Interest #2. Her inner dialogue touched on her captivity a bit, but it seemed like she got over her fear and anger too quickly. Crazy to say I wanted more from a 500+ page book, but here we are! For me, a romance is all about the tension, and I needed to feel this between our characters, beyond just them noticing each other in a physical way.
I enjoyed where the book ended, and I will definitely continue on with the rest of the trilogy!

2.5* Really enjoyed the start of this but then it just became an annoying round of indecisive FMC and I got utterly bored. Then we skipped the thing I’d been waiting for the entire book in a paragraph and half a chapter when we’d spent literally 50% on things I didn’t care about. I need better payoff for my slow burn. Started so well but was genuinely almost a DNF by the end which was a bummer

I have mixed feelings about this. The ending was interesting and dramatic and kept me engaged. But FMC is a bit foolish with no sense of self-preservation. A more calculated player would have made this book all the more interesting.

Where is book two? Because i really need it like right neow! This was such an amazing debut novel. From the very first page i was enraptured by the fresh take on vampires featuring a bad ass fmc. This book is just one example of the reason im obsessed with vampires in books. It did a really good job at keeping me on the edge of my seat as i didnt not foresee the plot twist which left me anticipating more. I really enjoyed the banter and yearning that we get between the fmc and mmc's. The world building was just incredible as well and The magic system was also complex enough without being overwhelming. For it being a debut novel im left speechless. If you like vampires i highly recommend this book.

4.5 stars! Vampires have always had a special place in my heart, and this book helped me remember why haha. l was into this book immediately, and stayed up way too late for a few nights. I don’t read love triangles often, but I really enjoyed this one! If you like vampires, magic, dark/moody vibes, and forced proximity… please read, you won’t regret it. I am so ready to find out what happens in book two.

3.5 stars. I am waffling back and forth between 3 and 3.5 stars, but ultimately, I did really like the beginning, so I'm allowing that section to boost to 3.5.
The first 30-40% of this one really had me hooked. I was all in trying to figure out how the love triangle was going to go, and then it all just kind of fizzled out. The plot just didn't quite click in the last 50%. I don't think there were adequate foundations built for either relationship, but particularly for the one that is obviously end game. They go from strangers to love very fast. Also, the stakes felt VERY low. There is talk of war, but we as the reader never feel that tension. The plot is really just in the background trying very hard to survive behind the focus of 2 love interests.

3-3.5 ⭐️ I enjoyed the beginning of the book but it fell flat in the middle and the ending felt rushed. I know there will be another book but I wish the character development and the world was just a bit more built up. Maybe the 2nd book is where it’ll really take off! I’ll be giving it a shot!

I can’t recommend this book enough!
I initially wanted to read this because of the FMC. I love reading about fierce FMCs, but a lot of them are younger, and while my younger self could relate in so many ways, the me I am today wants to find some for her to relate to as well. So I’ve been looking for books with older FMCs. This one did not disappoint!
The FMC in this book has gone through some things in her life, and at the start of the book we find her sitting in a cell waiting for her execution. She’s not just waiting, she’s preparing, as in fitting her head onto the execution block in her spare time to make sure she gets it right. It’s not all “get ready for the chopping block,” though, because she does get some visitors while she’s there, and we meet her sister. We also learn about some things from her past that give us a lot of insight into who Reyva is, and we get an idea of the dynamic between her and her sister. It’s complicated, to say the least.
We find out that Reyva doesn’t have to get executed. She can willingly volunteer to go to the Hive instead. The only problem with the Hive is that it’s filled with vampires who use humans in whatever ways they want, and I do mean whatever ways.
Then when the Traveler shows up, I immediately liked him. He has a flirty sarcasm that had me smiling and biting my lip. Everything about him would’ve had me instantly signing up to go to the Hive. If the ones in the Hive are anything like him, then yes please, and thank you kindly!
Without giving away too much more, this book takes you on a journey into a world that rivals Game of Thrones, filled with the same level of brutality, gore, and deliciously dangerous vampires as True Blood, and a captivating backstory that tells the tale of vampire lore that felt similar, in all the best ways, to The Vampire Diaries.
There’s romance that will have you torn between who you like more. I wasn’t and then I was and then I wasn’t again. It was quite the ride, and it was so darn good that it had me up till 4 a.m. more than once trying to get every moment I could. Also can we talk about the spice?!? OH MY GOODNESS was it hot!!
I loved the ebook so much I bought the paperback before I was even halfway done. I can’t wait to see what Gabby comes up with next.

Welcome to The Hive!
This is the first time I received an ARC and boy I’m happy it was this book.
I was hooked right from the beginning as we wait for our FMC Reyva to meet her death by axe. She’s already made her choice: better dead than living the rest of her life as a slave in the vampire realm. Confident (although sometimes insecure) about her decision, she has some time to kill while waiting for her sentence. Do you know what she’s doing? Well… read the book to find out. I for sure didn’t expect that. What she does and who she meets after that sets the scene for a story about survival, self-discovery, and finding love amidst chaos.
I loved Reyva from the beginning and discovered she is bossy, fun, and sarcastic. Let some of her quotes speak for themselves:
“But I ignored the long-standing, deep-rooted training in how to be a ‘good woman’ for men. No. His feelings were his own to manage.”
“I didn’t know how to fight, it’s not ladylike to wield weaponry. Command a household? Now that, I could do.”
MMC: “May I propose something?”
Reyva: “As long as it’s not marriage,”
But she is far from perfect.
Caught between two love interests she also becomes vain and insecure. Conflicting feelings that some might find annoying, but the author did such a great job portraying Reyva, making her feel real, like any other of us would if we were in the same place.
The plot had me in a chokehold the whole time wanting to know what happens next. I did not expect any of the plot twists and the ending? Sign me up for book 2.
I don’t want to spoil too much the MMCs. I think the reading experience is so much better if you go blind on it and discover them at your own pace.
But I will tell this: there are some spicy scenes in this book that made me question my entire personality. So well done. Like I didn’t know that something I would normally find disgusting could be so hot.

Caught between two love interests she also becomes vain and insecure. Conflicting feelings that some might find annoying, but the author did such a great job portraying Reyva, making her feel real, like any other of us would if we were in the same place.
The plot had me in a chokehold the whole time wanting to know what happens next. I did not expect any of the plot twists and the ending? Sign me up for book 2.
I don’t want to spoil too much the MMCs. I think the reading experience is so much better if you go blind on it and discover them at your own pace.
But I will tell this: there are some spicy scenes in this book that made me question my entire personality. So well done. Like I didn’t know that something I would normally find disgusting could be so hot.

Reyva is a mature and sensible FMC. Refreshingly so. She doesn’t make stupid or rash decisions, and is absolute in her resolve to protect those she loves. It’s incredibly compelling and subsequently…heartbreaking. She will accept an unfulfilling life if it means safety for those she loves.
Something I am very conflicted about—this love triangle. Every bit of it. I wasn’t sure who I was rooting for the most, Dommick or Rhazien. I literally flip-flopped pretty consistently the entire book. (So did Reyva, if I’m being honest.) It was just so real and all of these characters are deeply morally grey. They all make mistakes and they all fight to make things right after the fact. It made it so hard to “pick a side” when it came to the MMCs.
When it comes to the Northern Hive though—picking a side in the imminent vampire war was easy. There was no choice at all. Although, I’m starting to suspect there’s a LOT more happening behind the scenes that we don’t know about.

The chokehold this book had me in! 🥵I devoured this book, and I’m ready for more!

From this opening line, the author, Gabby Grahek, grabbed my attention and held it for the duration of the book. The world-building was both accessible and fascinating with a fresh take on vampires and their society. The politics and hidden agendas of this society added an intriguing plot layer in addition to the romance.
The romance is explored through a well-executed love triangle. Reyva, the FMC, is torn between a guard, Dommik, and the Regent, Rhazien. The complications of this love triangle are believable due to the complex characters Gabby creates. Reyva is one of the best parts of Shadowbound. A heroine in her thirties, Reyva has navigated many difficulties in her life. Accused for a crime she didn’t commit, Reyva considers accepting the axe due to all the times the world has failed her. When she is blackmailed into joining the vampire society to protect her family, she enters it with her eyes wide open. She questions everything and is intent on learning all she can about her new world. This exploration is the foundation for her relationship with both Dommik and Rhazien. The juxtaposition between the easy-going Rhazien vs. the mysterious Dommik provides tension for both Reyva and the reader.
The humor in this book also deserves a special mention as it provided some of the most quotable lines! My favorite moments included using bread as a weapon and the continued focus on prayer. 😉
Shadowbound is easily a top read for me this year and Gabby is a new voice I’m eager to hear more of! If you enjoy vampires, love triangles, and “touch her and die” vibes, this books is for you!

3.8⭐️ I’m honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book considering it’s a love triangle. I found this book completely by accident and had no idea what to expect. Turns out, it was a really good read. The only thing that I was angry about was finding out this isn’t a duology… it’s a trilogy. So now I have to wait forever for the next book. 🥲

This book reminded me exactly why I normally avoid them—I spent the whole book wondering who she actually wanted more and who she’d end up choosing. Then you get attached to one MMC and have to watch her spend another like 300 pages with the other one. 😭
That being said, I actually think it was handled really well here. I caught myself flying through the pages, just waiting for the moment she’d finally realize who she truly wanted.
For a first book in a trilogy, I think this was a really strong start. I liked the characters, the story kept me hooked, the world-building was solid, and the spicy scenes were definitely spicying. 😏 Vampires and magic? Say no more!
My only complaint is that some parts felt a little repetitive, and the ending wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for. It did surprise me, but I wish things had been resolved a little differently between the FMC and the two MMCs. I’m happy with who she chose… just not entirely with how she got there…
Now excuse me while I impatiently wait for book two. 🖤📖

*4.5 stars* I really enjoyed this read, a big thank you to the author for this advanced copy! For a debut book already over 500 pages, I found myself wanting more. Like give me more information on this world we’re in, the characters I’m reading about, the magic system in place, give me more of Reyva using her magic! Because of that desire to learn more about this world, I quickly devoured this.
I also enjoyed the push and pull Reyva was experiencing between our two MMCs, Dommik and Rhazien. I’m glad Rey went down the path I wanted her to in the end, even if I knew that’s where we would go right away😂 This was also my first vampire read and as someone new to this branch of the genre it was super easy to understand the Hive dynamics and some of the more nuanced aspects of the vampire culture.
All of this goes to say I thoroughly enjoyed this read, the storyline was interesting, the spice was perfectly spicy, and it has left me wanting more. The writing style was simple, but not overly so, which made the reading experience quite easy. Congrats on a great debut, Gabby! Kicking off sexy vampire summer the right way!

I stayed up late three nights in a row reading this book, and I'd do it all again in a heartbeat! I haven't been this infatuated with a vampire story since my preteen Twilight era, and wow, this one was on an entirely different level. Higher stakes, epic love stories, and fantastic world-building!
Reyva is awaiting her execution when she receives an unexpected visit from a mysterious Traveler offering her a chance at life. Forced to choose the unknown to save the people she loves, she's thrown into the confusing, alluring, often horrifying, yet strangely magical world of the vampire Hive. Along the way, she's forced to make impossible choices, confront her deepest fears, and navigate jealous lovers.
This dark romantasy has everything you could want: high stakes, a love triangle, bloodthirsty vampires, sorceress powers, plenty of "praying" (you'll understand later, trust me), political intrigue, an obsession with bread (obviously), glamorous courtship, a truly horrifying villain, a man who would burn the world for her, and one of the most unique vampire societies I've read.

This is the type of book with which you fall in love with the Vampire Lore. Hands down the best vampire novel I've read this year. I absolutely inhaled it.
And if you’re like me and your lore started with Angel x Spike,and you’re still looking for that high, Gabby Grahek has got you.

This gave me True Blood vibes with the love triangle (but both choices were better than Bill Compton) but make it more regency. We’ve got a vampire regent, his commander, and a widowed sorceress. Our FMC isn’t necessarily naive, but she’s definitely uniformed. The regent wants her to fulfill a prophecy. And the commander who is a consent king. There’s high stakes, vampire court politics, pretty dresses, and plenty of spice. I thought the magic was interesting and the vampires were plenty bloodthirsty. I’m going to need book two to see where the author takes these characters and what kind of chaos the loose ends from book one create.

4.5 rounded up! Shadowbound was insanely addictive. I had such a hard time putting it down and I stayed up way too late to keep reading one more chapter.
Our two MMCs, Rhazien and Dommik, could not be more different. I’m such a sucker for a love triangle and I really enjoyed this one, even though I had a clear favorite. I’ll pick the broody, tortured MMC every single time. There’s truly nothing hotter than a forbidden romance—the tension was killing me, and I loved every second of it.
The yearning was painful, the tension palpable, and the plot twists were twisting. My jaw was actually on the floor at one point as I audibly gasped.
The ending sent me into a full blown spiral and I desperately need more answers. I have quite a few theories and I can’t wait to see if I’m right.

From the beginning I was sucked into the world where our FMC has been arrested for a crime she didn't commit, accused of being a witch and must choose to either go to the Hive (vampires) or get executed in front of her remaining family.
While I enjoyed the premise and the language she chose to describe the world building, there were times where I struggled with the actual romance developed. I am not a huge love triangle girlie (thanks to RH ruining me!!) and struggled at times with the two love interests.

I was gifted a PR package, started reading on KU, then loved the book so much that halfway through I bought the e-book too.
I would give more than 5 stars if I could. This is like The Vampire Diaries meets The Wolf King with some Trial of the Sun Queen vibes, too.
None of my theories were correct. Nothing that I thought was "for sure to happen" happened. At every turn I thought I knew what was going to happen, and every time I was wrong.
This was so well done and so unexpected, I'm in absolute awe.

I’m normally not a vampire reader but this book made me a convert. This is definitely a romance forward romantasy book - you’re here for the relationship and dynamics between our FMC and MMCs (it’s a love triangle, my favorite). Love triangles can be tricky, but in my opinion, this one was well done. It feels like a standalone so you don’t have to feel like you’re overcommitting to a new series … but there’s clearly so much more story in the pipeline. Can’t wait for more!
