With the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in this world, it is imperative for every Human being(especially a non-muslim) to read The Quran. This is the only way to understand the basic tenants of Islam.

I completed the book last night.I have not read it in a manner I read other books.I took this book because I wanted to know about Islam. I must tell you, many of my misconceptions have cleared after reading and understanding this book.

Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. That is a more than enough reason for anyone to read the Quran. Yes, there are somethings which people living in 21st century won't approve of,but yeah, there is no harm in reading it.

Every non-muslim should read this book.

A beautiful holy text. I’d encourage anyone to read the English translation of the Qur’an who wants to develop a deeper understanding and knowledge of Islam from their own interpretation. The media has had a strong influence and force in creating prejudice, fear, hate of Muslims. With the rise of faith based hate crimes and the concept of Islamophobia, the translation can help one to understand the context of these stories and remove any biases and internalised prejudices. It provides a deeper sense of awareness and I’d recommend that you take your time to read this to fully appreciate it.

The Qur'an is one of the most influential books of all time and it is often considered to be the greatest masterpiece in Arabic. The book evokes devotion and passion amongst the faithful and many Muslims are able to memorize this text by childhood. Yusuf Ali has done a fantastic job rendering the text into an accurate and readable english translation. The language is in an Elizabethan style with "thees", "thous", and "thys". This may be considered difficult or archaic to read for some people. Yusuf Ali's translation also includes parrallel Arabic text, extensive and insightful footnotes, and excellent commentary.

I read the Old and New Testaments, Qu'ran, and Book of Mormom together to better understand the philosophies and history guiding a large portion of our humanity. As a non-religious person, I felt no strong connection to any of these materials, either before or after. I simply read them out of academic interest. I was highly interested in reading the philosophies of other Authors earlier in my life. By the time I had read the Holy Books my moral guidance had been pretty well set. For this reason I do not feel as though I gained much in the sense of personal growth, but I do believe I have picked up a better understanding and tolerance of the corresponding religions. I encourage everyone to read them regardless of religious beliefs.

My seemingly low score is not meant to provide a political or religious intolerance as many seem to be doing here. Since two stars is considered "OK" in goodreads, that is what I am providing each of the Holy Books.

A long read, even though it's a translation it was surprisingly poetic and elegant. It cleared up quite a few misconceptions about islam. It's good to read something different from my normal atheist literature.

Al-queda type Muslims argue the Qur'an cannot be translated without losing it's beauty.
They're right.

Had to move it to 2 stars because it was less over-rated then the princess bride.
