It was slow going with her heels sinking into the wet ground on every step. Almost to dry ground, her shoe caught and stayed in the mud sending her hopping forward on one foot. She made a mad grab for anything to keep her vertical.
Her hands unerringly snatched the front of the prince’s suit jacket, simultaneously pulling him toward her and down to the ground. They fell in a tangle of limbs, him turning to hit the ground first and her head smacking into his chest hard enough to make her see stars. When they stopped moving, mortification, like she had never felt before, spread through her like wildfire.
His Royal Highness, the Prince of Ghadrik, lay flat on his back on the White House lawn with her sprawled across him. She was so getting fired.
Abigail Ashley is in way over her head. In the space of a week, she goes from being a nobody to the president's administrative assistant. She is all but invisible to the other members of the staff, but one person seems to have taken a very strong interest in her. The one person she is supposed to avoid. The prince of the Ghadrikan Empire. Among political intrigue, corruption, and war, Abby must fight for her life and a chance at love. One thing is for sure. Things could get very complicated.
Writer of cross genre romance, Devi Mara, grew up in rural Missouri. An avid reader and writer, she found inspiration in the people and places around her. The result, a fluid concept of the romance subgenres.
Devi is a lover of coffee and chocolate and partakes in both daily. She lives in Missouri with her family.
She loves hearing from readers and encourages them to contact her on Facebook and follow her on Twitter.
. It took 50% of the book for the story to get off the ground.
Aliens have contacted Earth through some kinda gateway. There are good aliens and nasty bad aliens. The good aliens are tall and look just like us (but a lot sexier). The bad aliens are creepy and look kinda like lizards.
...anyways, the world building reads more like a D.C. comic than a novel.
Logic and intrigue went on vacation for this story. There is a lot of smirking.
safety is good, but the story does get pretty violent... and ridiculous.
Well written with many editing issues -- enough to be distracting, but not enough to be irritating. This is a standalone book with no cliffhanger.
So, for those of you who, like me, didn't figure this out from the blurb, this is a SciFi Romance. That is not a spoiler -- it's revealed in the first chapter. Not my normal genre, but I am a SyFy nerd who loves Romance books, so this sort of hit a sweet spot for me and was a breath of fresh air.
All the characters are well developed with very specific points of view. I read this in less than a day because it was very suspenseful. I knew there had to be a happy ending, as the story is somewhat Cinderella-ish, but I really had no idea how the author was going to get there, or who were the good guys and who were the bad guys. Which is not to say it was confusing, it wasn't. It was suspenseful with many, many plot twists, 99% of which got tidily wrapped up by the end.
The two main characters of the story have a lot of chemistry -- and there are some very steamy scenes. The courtship is very romantic and sweet, while still a little awkward because what Earth girl can figure out those crazy alien dating rules without a little help? I know it sounds ridiculous, but with the romance, humor, heat and suspense, this was a really fun read.
Highly recommended for fans of sweet Romance and the TV-series "V", this is a no brainer -- you'll love it.
I liked the consept, but sadly, it fell flat. It was so inconsistent and far fetched. I also wanted more diversity between the alien races, they were all so close to the same thing.
I became a fan of Devi Mara after reading her debut book No Light. I loved that original book so much that when I realized she had another book out I had to buy it. And I'm glad I did :)
Abigail Ashley has finally gotten the break she needed. Somehow she has managed to get a job working for the President of the United States as his administrative assistant. What she never expected is that she would have interactions with aliens, and not the south of the border kind. For some reason she can not explain she is instantly drawn to Prince Edric from the moment she sets eyes on him. She doesn't understand why she keeps getting thrown into situations where its her job to entertain him.
Prince Edric, acting as the Ambassador of the Ghadrik, has agreed to meet with the US for one reason and one reason only.... to meet his arammu. His soul-mate. After searching for years he finally has her in his sights and he will do anything he has to to convince her to accept his courtship.
I was intrigued for several reasons. First the actual story line was different. I liked that the alien line were matriarchal. That most of the woman from Prince Edric's planet were warrior woman and could take care of themselves. It added so much depth to the book. I loved that Abby was such a strong character. Even with all the confusion of everything going on around her she still stood up for herself. I fell in love with Edric from the beginning. He was so sweet with Abby. Willing to do anything to prove to her he was a worthy mate.
Even though this is a standalone I'm hoping that we get another book. Maybe one about the next ruler of Raena (hint hint).
I wanted to start off by saying I love this author. So when I saw this book I had to read it. Overall if was just so different and wonderful I didn't want to stop reading. But there were a few points that seemed rushed like they weren't sure how to write it,but it was still alright in those parts. But overall a 4 star book
You defiantly need to read this book! It was a great read. There were little things that I wish got more attention. I don't like how the main character went from a meek to strong so quickly. My only wish is that she would come out with sequel. I need to see what happens next.
While I enjoyed this book, there were a number of hanging threads still unresolved when the story ended. Would have liked a more tightly wrapped story.
Don’t listen to anyone, this book is amazing for an alien book. The world building is incredible, the plot twists!!!!, and the love between the two main characters makes my heart happyyy!!!!
