Curl Envy
We Women seem to desire the exact opposite of what genetics bestowed us. I have envied curly headed women most of my life, as they used say my hair was a carpenter's dream-straight as a board, a slave to perms that started in high school with an Afro which I rocked, the mass of ringlets my shining glory. For the next 40 years I have gone thru many versions of curls, wavy to curly, long or short and will continue to perm and pamper my hair. Ladies of the Curl, you rock those curls and know that you are the envy of many women. The poems in this book express a coming of age of sorts, learning to love yourself for your beauty without and within.

Leaves a touching message
This collection of poems will brighten anyone's day who has curly, wavy, or kinky hair. So many girls grow up hating their hair and taking drastic measures to change the way it is. This book provides such a positive message that all hair types are beautiful, even though we may have grown up seeing only one hair type as beautiful.
Love it! I highly recommend it to anyone with wild hair.

This is definitely not a book for women with straight hair since it makes you feel plain and that your hair is the "blah" normal. It tells the story that we with straight hair have it easier to care for but our hair is lifeless and without any magic since our hairs flows instead of bounces.
There was also one poem that was in Spanish, which would have been nice to have a translation on the opposite page or even underneath the actual line for those who don't speak Spanish. I think I did a partially decent job in translating it but I am not sure if that was the right translation or not.
As for the book itself there were some poems that were alright and nothing to write home about such as the very first one. And then there were the decent poems. What made the book more interesting to read was the different styles that were used in the poems themselves with some rhyming, one in a curvy shape and others just being normal everyday written poems.
But the best thing that I love about the book is the artwork, which is amazing. The colors are subdued and yet bright while eye-catching. They convey some beautiful women and girls while helping the book to relate to even younger audiences.
So summary if you have curls or know someone that does this will be a beautiful book to add to their collection. Straight-haired girls keep away!

Sooooo Relarable
What an inspirational way to remind yourself to love who you are all the way to the top of your "curly locks" =) I smiled with every poem. I had returned to straight hair & had planned to go back to curly for the summer....this book inspired me to go back 3wks earlier then planned! Thanks =)

A book I wish I had growing up
This book brought tears to my eyes. I'm 24 and starting last year, I have finally started to love my luscious Latina curls. Growing up I hated them and wished and prayed for straight silky hair that was always on t.v. . Now I look in the mirror and smile and thank god my wish never came true.

Acceptable but not what I expected
This was a great but for discovery but not what I expected. Title is unclear as to what appeared in the pages. I expected some words of instruction, my bad!

Do you have curly hair? Does your daughter have curly hair? Do you have a loved one -- whether niece, cousin, or even a beloved non-relative -- with curly hair? If so -- this is the ideal book for you.
I've struggled for a lifetime with my curls. I always felt 'ugly' or odd for being blessed with my father's hair texture. Unlike my father's hair, my mother's hair is baby-fine, perfectly straight and very thin. In comparison to my mother's hair: my hair is very thick, curly, and coarse like my father's. It's coarse enough that people have even proclaimed, "Wow! Your hair is like a wiry piece of yarn," or even acknowledged it to feel like curly horse hair. (Yes, really.)
I've spent many years of my life thinking my hair was "hopeless." It was hopelessly big, hopelessly curly, hopelessly dry... and hopelessly unlike what I saw be marketed as beautiful hair in the magazines. I can't say that I ever hated my hair because I never did. I always loved my curls and valued them over having straight hair... but I never knew how to really care for my hair. I realized that not knowing how to properly care for your hair is a big factor in why people with curly hair get so frustrated easily. Even if they love their curly locks (like I did), they simply do not know how to maintain them and feel so lost (like I also did).
After feeling like there was something that had to be done about my hair, I Googled and found some information online about my hair. This past summer, in fact, is when I found NaturallyCurly.com. It changed my life! My curls are the healthiest, curliest, and prettiest that they have ever been. Not only do they look pretty, but I finally feel pretty for having curly hair.
Why should I hate something that makes me stand out? That reminds me of my family (my father's parents both also had very curly hair) and ancestral land? Why should I hate something that makes me an individual?
The poems in the book are full of ways to love your hair; it says all of the beautiful things about curls that little girls (in particular) need to hear. It's also inclusive of all curls -- whether they be curls, coils, or even waves. I found it be so inclusive and heartwarming. I really wish that were more books like this!
It was one of the sweetest books that I've read in a long time. I loved how the poems were able to capture the poetic essence of curly hair -- including the self-esteem issues from not having 'pretty' hair, to the fun of it, and the care that it needs. One of my biggest stepping stones was realizing that my curls need more love than if they were straight locks.
If I had a little curly girl in my life, I'd definitely gift her this book in particular! If you know a little curly one: this would make a great book for her. I can only imagine that these poems would be so fun to read to a little one! Even if you don't have a little one: you'll love reading these cute little poems to yourself if you have any curly locks.
This book is a sure way to warm a Curly Girl's heart! :)

As far as the poems go, they are rhythmic and fun for girls to read. I loved my curls before this book since I know they'll never leave. I wish I would have know, and a poem I could have wrote. But since I didn't, I thought I'd leave this little note. Take care of your curls, spoil them with coconut butters. Soon after friends, you'll be the envy of every mother. How does she get her curls to spring and smell so good? I must know to help my daughter,whose curls I cover with a hood. If I had such product, she could be happy with her hair. Tell me girl, what do you use that gives your hair that flair? Is it Dove, or Pantene Pro-v? Hair gel or maybe Burt's Bees? No I laugh, those names ain't black! Gotta use Mixed Chicks or some Shea!

This is a fun, short collection of poems encouraging girls of every age to love their curls. I've always loved my curls and I wish all curly girls did too! I support Dove in urging other girls to not feel the need to emulate other hairstyles, but I also want to emphasize on girls embracing their natural hair, curly or not! The poems in this book are simple and great for young girls, and the drawings are lovely!! Definitely targeted towards a younger audience, but the message transcends all ages and ethnics.

I didn't think I was going to like this book. For one thing, I don't have very curly hair, only waves. But reading what some girls go through, like not being able to push their hair behind their ears and their hair taking forever to dry, really made me think about them. I often just wash my hair, complain about it, and then leave the house, often with little effort put into my hair. My hair will lie straight enough. But some girls actually feel bad about the way they look because of their curls. It shouldn't be that way, and I'm so glad this book was written. Be strong curly-haired beauties!

I finally have curls
All my life I wanted curls. As a child, my aunt would give me Toni perms and as an adult I spent thousands of dollars and hours at beauty salons. Like a few others mentioned, at menopause, my very straight hair changed, and with every passing year my hair gets more curls.
Loved the beautiful poems and lovely pictures, But eve more I just love my very own long hair curls.....

Curly hair is beautiful
This book is special to all those girls (young and old) who have curly hair. You know who you are. Growing up with wild and crazy hair is not easy. This book explores the blessings of curly hair so those who are blessed in this way can appreciate what is theirs. There is no need to straighten what God has given you. I loved my curls while I had them!
Curly hair is the greatest hair in the world. My curls are gone now, lost to aging factors, however a poor substitute for my curls is a perm. It's the only way I know how to be the real me. Oh how I miss my curls, but my daughter thankfully carries on the family tradition from grandma Divietro and myself.

Curly Hair
I love this book,it was straight to the point about how we feel about our hair. When I was younger, I wanted straight hair, but now that I am much much older I love my curly hair!!!! And I am going to give this book to my granddaughter. She has such pretty curly hair, but she wants it straight sometimes. Love your curls ladies!!!!!!

So cute!
I already love my curls, but sometimes I just find myself wishing I had straight hair. It would be easier to care for, I could just brush it, I could roll out of bed and go in the mornings, I could grow it out more easily....the list goes on and on. I love this book, and now I have even more incentive to rock my bouncy buoyant beautiful curls!

Must read
This is a must read for girls with curly hair! This is so true for how my daughter felt about her hair. Growing up she did not like her hair at all! She is now a teenager and learning to accept her hair. I had her read this book to let her know she's not alone in her hair struggles.

Love this book!
It's very inspiring to read. When using was younger I wanted to be like all my other friends so I straightened my hair everyday. On day I wore it natural with my crazy curls and I got a lot of remarks so good some bad. But in Hugh school I learned to embrace my curls and got voted best hair! So glad I learned to love my curls!!!

It was an amazing book that teaches girls all over the world that have CURLS should appreciate them. Also, it talks about that usually girls with curly marinate jealous of girls and with straight hair, but really it is the other way around.
I believe this is an amazing book to teach girls to love there CURLS because that is what makes them different and very interesting.

Super curls
I wish I would have had this book when I was a little curly girl and also for my little super curly girl. Since I am 47 and my daughter is 21 we will have it to read to the future curly girls in our family. Thank you. This is a great book to make sure girls feel confident, and strong.

Any woman blessed with curly hair will enjoy this "book", which I read in ten minutes. I expected a Dove shampoo infomercial, but I was wrong. Good book for preteens, who might be sensitive about their curls. How liberating to toss out all my straightening potions and my collection of flat irons. I gained an extra hour every day and no longer dread humidity and rain.

I have curly hair which is hard to tame at times. I often wish my hair were straight and easy like my friend's hair. This book inspired me that even though my wild waves and curly curls are a struggle it's all part of being unique, different, and special! Charming
Society and current fashion trends value straight/end hair; but why, I will never know. My wavy hair has grown more curly with time. This lovely booklet expresses my joy delightfully. But then I have always relished being unique.

I have curly hair
When ideas younger my hair was a combo of straight and wavy. I would get a perm to make it curl. Now in peri--menopause my hair is curly all over, no need for a perm any longer. I love my curls.
