Xhanga draws its readers into the adventures that Marcie, a recent Bible school graduate, faces when she follows a calling—a burning passion—to share her witness to Jesus Christ. She discovers accounts of the Xhanga, a mysterious tribe thought to live in the remote reaches of northern Brazil, who are known for hostility to westerners. This discovery beckons her to take action to follow her calling.

R.D. Sadok brings Marcie’s missionary journey to life as she digs into the history of the Xhanga and uncovers an account of their suffering a grave atrocity at the hands of a Portuguese fort captain five hundred years ago. Moved by this legacy of pain, Marcie commits herself to her ministry. Along the way, she discovers the true depth of the Xhangans’ travails and it tests the strength of her faith.

Xhanga sets out to tell a story about a woman and a mission that matters both to her and to the mysterious members of the Xhanga tribe. If you find yourself drawn to accounts of people who live by their convictions, if you enjoy reading how differing cultures interact with one another, and if you desire to be inspired in your Christian faith, then Xhanga will prove itself worthy of your time.

Prior to 2014, my full-time job was as a chemical engineer with a large petroleum refining company. My writing on the job was technical reports, not terribly exciting but it di hone my grammatic skills. At that time, writing faith-based suspense stories with a high-tech bent was my hobby. But now that I am retired from my engineering job, I have taken up writing full time, a second career much more to my liking. To date, I've self-published two novelettes and four novels, with two more novels in progress.

I look forward to getting to know my fellow writers here at Goodreads because the love of good books is something we share in common.

Xhanga is a mysterious tribe that draws a young missionary to the northern Brazil. She is drawn by God to find these people who hate outsiders and spread his message.

Finding out the reason of their hatred of outsiders was due to the actions 500 hundred years ago by a Portuguese fort captain. Marcie finds herself further committed to spread her missionary to these people as she even tests her own faith.

Her initial encounter does not go well as she is shot by darts and ends up hanging naked on a post. She manages to survive two days like that as manages to sing a song of Chloe while most would have end up being dead. Slowly, she manages to gain the trust of a few woman and enlighten them about the world of God.

She manages further suffering as she and some of the women are kidnapped by another tribe. But along the way she does not give up on her beliefs. Along the way, she manages to find love with one of the men of Xhanga. This is an interesting story of life as a missionary and how it is not an easy path.

I received Xhanga for free through Goodreads First Reads and although this book is not typical of my favorite genre, I absolutely loved Marcie and her unshakeable faith. It is refreshing to read about such a strong willed character who knows her faith and beliefs and refuses to doubt them. I love the tolerance and patience that Marcie is able to show, as she even comes to love one of the Xhanga men. This was a great read that will leave you feeling optimistic and inspired.
