The author bares her soul in this emotional memoir. Her gift of story-telling shines through; I feel as though I know Uma, Amma, and Appa personally now.
One of the most appreciated aspects of this book Uma's taking the time to explain certain aspects of Indian culture that may not be understood by non-Indians and really adds more depth to the story; the example that stands out most for me is the struggle Amma had with losing her hair and finally having it shorn off during the chemo treatments.
This is not just a story of trial and sadness; it is a journey that turns into deeper understanding, growth, and hope that often develops after tragedy strikes.
