Rosie Maldonne thought she hit it big when she stumbled upon an envelope of cash in Queen of the Trailer Park. But with a nasty flu keeping her laid out, school fees due, and Christmas on the way, she finds herself back in the red. Time to find a real job. After weeks of searching, Rosie is losing hope when the man of her dreams happens to post a new cleaning for an elderly person. Perfect! She lands the job, but the new role brings more than the promise of romance. When orphaned twins appear on her doorstep—desperate and on the run—Rosie agrees to hide them. Harboring illegal immigrants and a diamond necklace stolen from the Mafia a year ago is stressful work. Paranoid and seeing suspicious people everywhere, Rosie contemplates fleeing to Amsterdam or seeking help from her new prince charming.
In this hilarious and suspenseful second investigation, Rosie has no choice but to roll up her sleeves and keep her ever-expanding family from harm.
Well the main character of this book is named Rosie but she wants to be called Cricri because she likes crickets. If you ask me, she should be called "craycray". Ha! Her second day on the job she shows up to work to find her boss dead. She calls the cops, who apparently she knows pretty well from the first book (this is the second book and I haven't read the first one). He tells her not to touch anything. In the thirty minutes it takes for him to get there, she has touched just about everything in the room. She's running around making up excuses why she should do this and that and I'm laughing throughout it all.
Of course, the fun doesn't stop there. It goes on throughout the book as she becomes the number one suspect. The crazy things that she does, you can't help but just shake your head and laugh. In her mind, she really has a good reason for doing what she does. I really laughed a lot during this book and was thoroughly entertained. It's funny, I don't know why, but I didn't think they had trailers in France. Apparently, they do.
Thanks Amazon Crossing for approving my request and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest review. If your in the mood for some fun and laughter, this is a good choice!
This book, "Queen of the Hide Out", by Alice Quinn is the next installment in the Rosie Maldonne French trailer park amateur detective series. In the first book, "Queen of the Trailer Park", the heroine thinks she has hit the bigtime because she finds cash in the trash. She ends up getting embroiled with the mafia and stolen jewels which also make a reappearance in this book.
It takes a bit to get into the swing of Rosie's slang, but once you do it is a fast and quite entertaining romp trying to find a killer and stolen art. In this book, Rosie starts in dire straits in a luxury trailer but not enough money to pay for school fees, Christmas presents or food. She is also struggling with a nasty bout of the flu. She thinks her luck has changed when she meets a handsome man and gets hired by him to watch his elderly father. Rosie quickly develops a fond relationship her charge, a semi-retired art dealer, who is elderly and very fond of a "drinkypoo" and auctioning off his art online.
I don't want to give too much of the story away, but before long Rosie, her four kids and a growing entourage are pursuing killers, thieves and love. A simple but entertaining story.
This book was not as funny as the first and too many things didn't add up and track. I liked the way Rosie bungled along then came up with a smart solution in the end of the first book but in this one she just came off kinda dumb.
Set in France a welfare mom with a huge heart and sense of adventure finds herself mixed up in a murder and trying to solve it. Rosie always lands on her feet like her cat Pasties. Would like to see this in a movie or tv series.
I went into this book hoping it would save a little bit it lost in the previous and I would enjoy it more. Unfortunately, it just was not the case. Not only was the story really just odd, the ending was rushed, anticlimactic, and made me regret reading the second installment. The main character has charisma, that I will not deny. And she makes for some entertainment. But the way the story plays out and the absolutely unbelievable situations that come up are just too much for my personal taste. I like to be able to place myself in the story somehow. Not literally but in a way that allows me to submerge myself. The way the characters behaved, the scenarios they found themselves in, and the actions taken because of that often times didn't make much sense or were so unbelievable it ruined it for me. This may very well be a great read for others and I can see how. There was no lack of craziness, it just wasn't for me.
Well, I was very entertained with Queen of the Trailer Park, so I bought books 2 & 3. I thought I would never finish this second one. Hated it and would have given it zero stars if that was an option. Rosie is lazy, a busybody, and narcissistic to the point of ridiculous. The language in this one was trashy. I won’t be reading the third one.
I'm enchanted by this series. It comes at the perfect time in this rollercoaster of life. I needed these smiles and I feel like Rosie is a new friend. I can't get enough!
What a hoot, what a madcap crazy keystone cop ride. This is no pulitzer prize winner, but a good funny read with hilarious and unbelievable encounters and fantastic witty dialogue.
Entertaining book. Some of the situations are far-fetched, but you can not help cheering for Rosie. This was an Amazon Prime freebie, and I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the first book in this series, an interesting and fun character, but the charm really wore off for me reading this second book, struggled to finish this one.
It was not as good as the previous book, and it seems like it ended in a confusing way, not wrapped up at all. I do like the characters, but the second half of the book could use some editing. So unless the next book is a continuation? I won't be reading it.
I fell in love with Rosie in Queen of the trailer park, So I had to read this follow up. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't as witty as the first book of the series. But it still kept me in suspense and is an easy read. My most favorite character is Pastis her cat. (It reminds me of my cat). Although Rosie is poor in money, she doesn't realize how rich she is because her heart is made oh "Gold"! You have to love her . I am still looking forward to reading Queen of the masquerade.
At times a bit frenetic, this is still a well written, breezy and entertaining read which I finished in an afternoon. I hadn't read the first book in the series but that wasn't a problem (although I suspect I might have missed some jokes.) Thanka to NETGALLEY for the ARC. You'll like this one if you like the more humorous versions of cozys.
I received this book from the publisher as a Goodreads giveaway. I loved it ! In fact, I am going to search out a copy of the first book, Queen of the Trailer Park.
I felt like I had spent my time with Rosie (Cricri), her twinies, Sabrina, and her loyal cat. This is a very light hearted enjoyable read that will leave you with a smile on your face.
I read the first book in this series a short time ago and got busy reading other things. I forgot all about Rosie. She's a hot mess and always seems to get into the trickiest of situations. She's always optimistic despite the things that befall her. I look forward to reading the third book in the series.
Another rollicking Rosie Maldonne's tale. That will keep you Turning ( or swiping) those pages to see what kind of mischief Rosie will find herself in again.
Clever mystery with enough odd characters to be a great sequel to book 1
Rosie is a great character and a refreshing narrator for her crazy life. Looked forward to this and was not disappointed. Interesting translation of some cultural ideas into American parallels. Fun read.
Not as good as the first but just as funny! Again Rose and her misfit group made me laugh hysterically. The story line was more believable this time but still over the top.
