“Screeched” by Stoney M. Setzer is a single shot of smalltown horror that takes place in the fictional county of Sardis, TN. This is short story #10 in the series; and I’ve read most of them as many have already been featured in various anthologies. (Plus, the author often sends me his stories for proofing or feedback!)
We’ve been on this writing journey together for quite some time (I’ve published a number or Stoney’s stories in my magazines), and so I’m honored to be mentioned in the dedication pages of these episodes. Let’s call them spiritual thrillers or supernatural horror stories.
As to the setting, Stoney and I created a portion of this strange universe when we co-wrote “Accidents.” I was to expand the Tremble Town tales and he would continue the Sardis County happenings. Well, I’m glad at least one of us has kept up their end of the bargain!
If you’re looking for short one-offs that channel the Twilight Zone vibe of yesteryear – with a Christian underpinning and clean storytelling – then these Sardis County adventures featuring weird (and slightly campy, but in a good way) monsters along with a cast of likeable, relatable characters, then I think you’ll enjoy Stoney’s offerings.
Although I’m biased as I’m friends with the author, I did buy this e-book from Amazon. They’re each available for 99 cents, quite the bargain for a quick, entertaining read.
