So why do I keep ending up alone with him after games… hands on my jersey, mouth at my ear, daring me to admit I want more than revenge?

Except it’s starting to mean everything.
Because the more I let him in, the less I can stand the distance. The secrecy. The way I can’t have him unless it’s in the dark.

So this is the fourth installment of the San Jose Coyote series. Honestly, you think they can’t get better, and they do; this one was a little more push/pull between the MMCs. I would say it's more emotional than the last one. We follow Emiliano, who is on the opposing team of Sean and their secret rivals' lovers' rendezvous. There is a lot of emotional turmoil that we go through in this book, and it is bittersweet.
Sweet baby Sean really goes through it with his faith. Not only his faith, but his family and just being accepted by the people he loves. It was hard reading him really fight with himself even to try to be happy. There were plenty of times I just wanted to hug him or pick up the phone for him.
Now our boy Emiliano, aka Mili... he is a legit ray of sexual sunshine lol. There’s no other way to describe him in this book. He really grounds Sean and is so patient with him throughout the book. Then when patience doesn’t work, he gets creative. I admired his drive to get his point across in a totally obsessive but loving way.
You also really see more of the found family between the San Jose players and how they add to their flock, the banter, and this one was funny. The San Jose players are literally like a bunch of annoying brothers, but you can tell they all love each other.
My favorite word of this book was “No.” I think what I’m most grateful for was the story not going in the typical route that sometimes follows books that involve religious guilt. I don’t wanna say too much cause I don’t wanna spoil it. The HEA was well deserved for these two. It’s 5 out of 5 really enjoyed this read. OH before I forget…..the Spice!! Chef's kiss, let's not forget to add in the Spanish dirty talk….whew! 😅
I’m super excited to see what else is in the series, as I am with everything that comes from Izzy, but I love these two; they’re fighting for number one place with Andres and Jackson. I think they're probably equal, given how much I love the pair.

I’m giving this a 4.75 simply for the fact that I wanted MORE at the end! But I really enjoyed reading it from start to finish. Sean and Emiliano’s dynamic gave rivals but it also gave an opposites attract kinda vibe to it as well. Religious guilt and sexual identity were prevalent in the story. It really goes to show that many people may have the same faith or practice the same religion, but it doesn’t mean that all faith & how you practice your faith is the same. Everyone has their own experiences. Family dynamics were also prevalent in this story and seeing the differences of Sean’s family and Emiliano’s family were interesting to see play out. On a lighter note, I loved the banter between Sean & Emiliano! The San Jose Coyotes also brought their A-game (no pun intended lol) with the shenanigans but more importantly the camaraderie.
Izzy has a why in her writing that makes you feel the ache, the fear, the worry within her characters and what they’re going through. But she can also make you feel the joy, happiness, even the heat within those spicy moments as well. Highly recommend this one if you wanna go for an emotional rollercoaster ride!
I’ve also read Disarm (one of my favorites!) and Double Play which is also part of the San Jose Coyotes series! Loved both of these books as well!
Izzy has quickly become a favorite for me!

Sean and Emiliano took “this doesn’t mean anything” and turned it into an entire relationship built on rivalry, jealousy, secret hookups, and feelings neither of them wanted to acknowledge.
I really enjoyed the rivals-with-benefits dynamic and the tension that came from them being competing baseball players who could not seem to stay away from each other. Their banter was entertaining, their chemistry was strong, and I loved watching their arrangement slowly become something neither man could continue pretending was casual.
Beyond the romance, the story also explores religious guilt, internalized shame, anxiety, and the fear that can come with finally accepting what—and who—you truly want. Emiliano and Sean both had personal struggles to work through, which gave their relationship more emotional depth beneath all the hate-to-lust energy.
There is a lot of Spanish woven throughout the story. I personally didn’t mind it and felt that it suited the characters, but readers who prefer every line to be translated on the page may find certain conversations harder to follow.
Although this book contains plenty of sexual tension and explicit moments, it was only a one-chili read for me personally. Overall, this was an emotional MM baseball romance with heated rivalry, possessiveness, found family, and two stubborn men learning that their feelings were never as casual as they claimed.

This one was so freaking sweet.
Emiliano and Sean have this love hate relationship.
Emiliano is the Ace pitcher and the rival team. He loves messing with Sean while he’s at bat. Let’s just say there’s a lot more to that!
Sean who plays for the coyotes always strikes out against Emiliano. Let’s just say things happen in the dugout!!
Sean is dealing with his sexuality and the fear of his family finding out and being disowned.
Emiliano is exactly what Sean needs in his life, his constant never giving up on him and also reassuring him that what his beliefs are that he’s loved unconditionally.
Sean deserved his happiness he loves Emiliano while heartily.
Gosh you have to love the found family with the coyotes!!
I love Izzy’s writing she never disappoints I can’t wait for the next one and more of her beautiful books.

Sean is a good Irish catholic man who is scared of what it would mean if he admits to himself, his family and the world that he is in love with Emiliano,
The religious guilt is a very true representation (I asked my Irish friend about it) it must be hard to not be able to know exactly how your friends and family are going to react, lucky it all works out for the best,
Emiliano is so sure Sean is it for him, he's a strong presence the way he fights for him and shows him love shouldn't come with conditions is beautiful,
There's so much emotion in this book it makes you feel like your heart is coming to bust, I loved the banter and the way their dynamics work as well as all the noise friends who are family

This book while less spicy than the first 3 books in the series was very meaningful…This one shows that family will love you no matter what
Sean struggles with accepting himself, his feelings for Emiliano, the way his family will react and his religion while Emiliano accepts who he is, has the love and acceptance of his family and just truly wants to be there for Sean and love him out loud

This novella series is getting more and more emotional. Sean’s journey with his religious guilt over being bisexual is felt. He tears into himself so hard and he feels that love is earned through suffering. Emiliano is there to teach him that it’s ok to be loved out loud, safely and joyfully. I love how confident and understanding Emiliano is of Sean. He has his own boundaries with his religion and self worth. But there’s a difference from not allowing a relationship to happen because the person is refuses to leave the closet and from someone who just needs some help, courage and support to come out. Love these two.

Another amazing addition to this series by Izzy!!!! I have been hooked since book one and I'll be here til the end. I can't get enough of these short stories that add to the series in ways you wouldn't imagine. It's cool to see through their point of views. And each book is a different couple!
