The busy summer season is drawing to a close in the little mountain town of Big Lake, Arizona and the locals are looking forward to a relaxing interlude before the first snowfall brings carloads of skiers to the high country. That all changes when a nearly nude woman rushes into a convenience store in the middle of the night begging for help. She tells Sheriff Jim Weber that her new husband has been murdered and she was taken captive by the mysterious killer, who seems to have disappeared into the thick forests of the White Mountains, touching off a manhunt for a phantom that cannot be found. One reviewer has referred to the Big Lake mystery series as “Mayberry Meets Twin Peaks." It’s a combination of humor and intrigue that launched author Nick Russell’s first Big Lake book into Amazon’s Top 100 Paid Kindle books for over 78 days, and Big Lake Honeymoon, the seventh book in this popular series, is sure to be a hit, too!
One of the best series around .Mr Russell puts everything in one book, you laugh you cry ,l have read them all and truly enjoyed everyone .can't say enough about this author except read his books, you won't be disappointed, another well done . Thank you for the enjoyment of reading
This is a very good book. Besides all the thrills and mystery this book had some very funny parts. I could not help but laugh. It made this book very enjoyable. I highly recommend this book and series.
Who killed the new husband on his honeymoon? Who was the sicko who gunned down the newlywed and kidnapped his new wife? When a naked woman ran into the convenience store with a zip tie on her wrists what did the young clerk think? The surviving wife was so distraught that she collapsed into her newly deceased husband's twin brother's arms. No matter how hard Jimmie and his hardworking deputies work they can't find a single lead. Hundreds of truck matching the vague description the wife gave them were stopped but nothing came of it. What more can they do? And what's with the so-called K-9 that the Mayor is trying to pawn off on the Sheriff's Department? Can it be a help in this case? Find all the answers in this excellent book. Highly recommended!!
When I first saw the title, I thought it might refer to Jimmy and Robyn. It was not to be. It seems a couple was camping on their honeymoon. The husband is murdered and the wife abducted. She was able to give a description of the guy and his vehicle, but nobody else had seen him. All the clues seem to be there but nothing adds up. The reader catches a glimpse of who the who might be and the why is supplied later in the book. The how was the most puzzling part. As usual, Mayor Wingate provides comic relief by getting a mutt and calling it a trained K-9 dog. Good luck!
This was a complex case for the Sheriff's department, and even though they had a few leads, all of them lead nowhere. While beyond frustrated, as well as hoping for new information about their primary case, life continued moving forward. The mayor decided to pull another of his outrageous stunts, of course it involved the Sheriff and his department, but this one blew up in a way that no one expected! Lol!! It's definitely not a story or series that you'll want to miss. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and author.
I enjoyed this murder mystery set in the White Mountains outside of Tucson, even though I guessed the culprit early on. Russell has a way of bringing the characters to life. The fictional town of Big Lake is full of eccentric people who manage to get themselves into hilarious situations while Sheriff Jim Weber methodically goes about solving crimes and keeping the peace. I've discovered this is one of many in a series so I'll have to read more!
This was not my favorite book in the series. A lot of stuff in this book kept repeating throughout the book. I understand that if this is the first book you have read in the series, it might be good to have things repeated. I have now read 7 of 18, and I find myself skipping over paragraphs now when I realize it was something I just read 2 chapters ago. This book did not have as much excitement throughout the book as some of his others in this series. The ending was a total shock though.
Great story.... Suspenseful ! And OMG some funny stuff 😁 there is a dog named Baxter. The wacky Mayor claims to be a k9 dog, and the police force has GOT to use this dog. What happens with this dog is hysterical ! How the author came up with this is priceless LOL ! The characters are great, the story is great. You gotta read the Big Lake series....
There's not much to say, except the book was great! As always. Never expect anything less, from a Nick Russell book. Humor, friendship and a good mystery to solve, if you can. Thank you Nick for having your books in Kindle Unlimited. I highly recommend all the books in this series.
I really enjoyed this book, as usual! Mr. Russell is an excellent author and has not failed to please in his wonderful career!! I look forward to upcoming novels, that I know will continue to please his fans! I am certainly one of them! Keep on writing, Mr. Russell!!!😃
I knew the ending about halfway through the book. I worked as a Deputy Sheriff for over 7 years but returned to my construction job because of the stresses of the job.. plus I made more money in construction and didn’t have a target on my back every time I went to work…
I figured it out early but was still going to finish it. I can't wait until I read the next one. These books are both thought provoking and funny. Nick Russell is a good, humorous writer.
I enjoyed reading this book, but I had it figured out 3/4 way through the story. The characters are well developed and the side characters are very funny. The problem with the plot is in real life this would rarely happen.
Well written as usual, but I figured out before the sheriff. All the other goings on were still interesting and amusing, I was entertained by the people of Big Lake.
I love this series! I sit here alone and laugh out loud at the humor. There is just the right amount of mystery to make me think. Every character is believable even if exaggerated, lol !
Another winner, with the caveat I figured out the identity of the killer almost immediately. However I still enjoyed the story especially the secondary mystery. I hope Baxter the dog is brought back in the future.
Tears and Laughter. Although the honeymoon wasn't for Jimmy and Robyn, the book continued the Big Lake story with great characters who are always involved in different situations which Sheriff Weber must sort out.
IT'S ALWAYS FUN WHEN VISITING BIG LAKE. ESPECIALLY THIS TIME BECAUSE I FIGURED THIS ONE OUT FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, IT TOOK JIMMY UNTIL 70%. YAY ME! I WAS HOPING I WAS WRONG, BUT I WAS NOT. I WATCH TOO MUCH ID TV. ;D
I live in Minnesota, but travelled quite a bit in Arizona. Nick Russell's writing is such that it makes it easy to picture the places that he writes about. Not all authors have the knack that Russell does in that respect.
Can't get enough of this series! Always anxious for the next book! I love how it's hard to figure out "who did it", and how it's described as to how all was figured out!
These books are so imaginative and interesting I have a hard time putting down. Big Lake might be a small town but they have a very large thinking Sheriff!
