Rate this book
In love with one Prince and advisor to another, a scientist struggles to balance them both.

Sorin, official doctor of the royal Gargoyle court, is approached by a traitor in the Council and asked to sabotage valuable research that could lead to a cure for a degenerative disease culling the ranks of the royal Princes'. He must refuse- the Prince most harshly stricken is the Gargoyle he loves, Mihail.

Mihail, rightful ruler of the Gargoyle throne, is pushed aside when it is clear he has inherited a defective gene. Bred to a warriors stoicism, he accepted his fate, stepped aside, and built a life for himself as a billionaire corporate mogul in the human world. But he was never quite satisfied... especially when the male he loves is also the doctor who treats him and the current ruling Prince- who a faction in the gargoyle court want Mihail to rise up and depose.

Just when the two males begin to open to each other, intrigue begins to sweep them up into a whirlwind of court politics... politics that could tear Sorin and Mihail apart for good. Because no matter how much he loves Mihail, Sorin cannot betray his own kin.

This is a 12K+ MM paranormal shifter steamy romance told in the 3rd POV. It is the first part of a continuing story and ends with a mild cliffhanger.

Let me start by saying Disney's Gargoyles was (and still is) my favorite TV cartoon show of all time. I actually videotaped 99% of the episodes and still have those tapes to this day. That being said, I really loved this book more than I excepted to. I'm not the biggest fan on m/m shifter stories. I'll read them but they are not a favorite of mine. This book was awesome. Specter did a great job of describing the characters, especially Mihail in gargoyle form, and their lineages. As I was reading the description of Mihail, I could actually see him in my mind. I loved the conflict between the brothers and the different counsel people. Lavinia (I know I spelled it wrong) was the perfect antagonist. Sorin made me laugh with his sarcastic self.

First of all--love Specter's work. BIG TIME.

However... I did not like this one. I have no problems with the strange sort of shifter dynamic it had. Gargoyles are fine. But there's too much backstory in this piece, too much telling, and way too many epithets. I'm done with the "younger man", "bigger man" stuff. Please. If third person is too hard, write in first.

Also, I'm super sorry for going all aggro. I try not to do that. But mpreg is sort of my secret shame, and doesn't really follow most of my reviewing rules. That being said, Specter's changing mpreg as we know it. Most of his stuff is great. Solid. If he needs a beta reader... I'm around.

Binge-Reading of an author is never a great idea, but I really enjoyed her books so far. This one was really good, but not the best of the pack. The politics within the story were really confusing sometimes and at the end of the book it remains kind of open. It's not really an open end per se, but it seems the last bits were hastly writting together without elaborating on them. I hope there'll be a second book in the series.

I liked this book. There's some sexual acts. The characters are being defined more towards the end of the book. I'm looking forward to seeing how the relationship grows and the possible down fall of others!

It was a 2.5 star read, it was ok and partially I liked it but it was too drawn out, not enough romance, too much politics and Gargoyles either too weak with a genetic defect or party loving royals, just not how I picture majestic creatures made of stone come to life and rule.

Well written story of political intrigue with lovers caught between dueling faction and running out of time. I enjoyed the story fairly well but felt that, for me, the political maneuvering overshadowed the romance and is not really my kind of thing.

this book was a little confusing. I wish there was a bit more depth to the story and characters to explain things a little better. it was quite short and I think if it had more details and was longer, it would be an amazing story, not just a "pretty gang good" story.

I'm honestly still trying to figure out what I truly thought of this book. While I liked certain parts of it, overall it was just an ehhh.... Not great, not horrible, just there.
