“Get rid of the baby. No one can know about this; let’s not turn it into a scandal.”
It was with these cruel words that the king of the courtroom destroyed his own empire and banished the only woman he ever loved. Henrique was known in Curitiba as a ruthless, cold, and arrogant lawyer who lived for power, control, and his status at the most prestigious law firm in southern Brazil. He had no weaknesses… until he secretly became involved with Aline, the eighteen-year-old daughter of his boss and mentor. But when an unexpected pregnancy threatened to tarnish his impeccable reputation and his ego, Henrique made the most cowardly decision of his life: he threw the girl out onto the street in the middle of the night, demanding that she “take care of the problem.” Raised in a gilded cage and molded to be her father’s perfect puppet, Aline saw her world come crashing down. Cast out, terrified, and determined to protect her baby, she fled in the middle of a storm. Months later, the wall of ice crumbled. Remorse crushed the lawyer when he realized that his reign was nothing but ashes without her. The ruthless lawyer didn’t want to drag Aline back into his world; he was willing to grovel, beg, and spend the rest of his life pleading for her forgiveness just to be near her again. But Aline was no longer the frightened girl from the bus station. She was her own woman, and now, all the power in the game was in her hands.
I went back and forth on my rating. I can tell the book was translated and I thought it was well done. Some parts dragged, but I was still invested in seeing where this went. It is an age gap romance. No OW/OM drama. Virgin heroine, experienced hero, and an oops pregnancy.
(Possible spoilers ahead)
Sadly, I felt this betrayal happens a lot to women.
h is 18. Her dad is super controlling of her life. He wants her to be an attorney like him. He’s awful.
H is 34 and it’s mentioned he’s a bit of a playboy. He’s partners in a law firm with H’s dad. It’s mentioned h’s dad is his BFF. For some reason, which probably has to do with the country this was written in, lawyers are called Dr before their name, like Dr. Henrique (Henrique is the H) 🤷♀️
We know from h’s POV that she has always loved H. From H’s POV, we know he has started to “notice” that h is now a woman. He promptly comforts h one night after her dad said some hurtful things to her…which then led to some petting and kissing.
Naturally, H ends up taking h’s virginity later. They engage in a 4-month secret relationship. He promises her that she is “MINE” and that he will always protect her.
The betrayal. She finds out she’s pregnant. She’s scared. H loses his mind and says some awful things to her. He wants her to get rid of it before it ruins his career. Then he did the thing so many shitty men do and that’s question whether it really is his baby. 🤦♀️ and he basically kicked her out in the middle of a storm.
h goes home and packs. She knows if her dad finds out, he will force her to have an abortion. She’s at the bus station and doesn’t know what to do. She reads an Internet forum that mentions writing to a PO BOX number will get her help. She does. She waits for 4 days. She’s at the end of her rope and she’s almost completely broke. A nice man and woman (I’ll call them OP)show up.
So…the PO BOX is an organization that helps women. It’s a pay-it-forward type of situation.
OP flies h out of the area and takes her to their house. They basically saved her life and are now helping h get back on her feet. ❤️ The organization was the best part of this book and I wish we knew way more details. Anyway, OP is an amazing couple. The man is an architect and h sees what he does and decides that is what she wants to do.
During these months, the hero is ATE up with guilt. Nobody knows where h is. The hero has a PI looking for her. His internal struggle is definitely shown. He finally straight up tells the heroine’s dad everything. The heroine’s dad beats him up and fires him. At this point, H doesn’t care anymore. He just wants to find h. He’s lost his whole career.
Several months go by, and H has moved to the big city and slowly starts to rebuild his career. He gets information that h is in the same city. I think h is around 5 months pregnant now. Their reunion is not happy.
OP (the man) ends up discussing with the hero to find out his motive. I guess they support him after this because they feel he’s being sincere.
The hero tries to redeem himself for months. The h slowly starts to open back up. You could see the hero making huge changes in his life. He’s there for the heroine in every way. It was actually sweet to see because this man became a crying fool. 😂😂
The heroine has the baby; the hero is there. Afterwards, she moves in with him when they are released from the hospital. 2 months later, they have their makeup smex.
The heroine is now an architect. It’s a year after the birth of her daughter, and life is going very well for them. It ends with the heroine getting a call late one night from PO BOX saying a woman is pregnant and her abusive husband beat her up. She needs a safe place. They ask the heroine if she’s ready to pay it forward, and she said yes. She gets off the phone and tells the hero they have work to do. ❤️
I really enjoyed the whole storyline of the PO BOX (that name sucks though), and it could really be something to make a series with. This is book 2. Book 1 looks like it’s the OP’s story. I will check it out. Maybe it has more info about the PO BOX??
I rate this 2.5-3 stars. I would’ve rated it higher if it had less inner dialogue and more information about the PO BOX organization. Plus, the fact that the heroine became an architect so quickly made me 😂😂.
Henrique - proud playboy. Likes bringing women to his penthouse for an intense night over before dawn. No woman will ever get anything emotional from him.
Aline - 18yo. Had a crush on Henrique for a while. In law school for her father.
Henrique has started to notice Aline as a woman recently. A family dinner where her father humiliated her turned into a physical affair. Henrique enjoys the dark thrill of taking the daughter under the father’s nose.
He admires Roberto and is concerned what being found out would mean, but he continues. Four months in Aline realizes she is pregnant. She tells Henrique and thinks he will protect her and their baby.
Henrique sees this as a grenade that will destroy everything he has created for himself. He is cruel in his response even going so far as saying the baby is not his. He watches the hope and illusion crash and Aline’s heart shatter. He says he won’t watch everything he built shatter for one mistake and neither should she.
Aline does not react with tears and begging like he think she will. Her tone and expression goes hollow and drains of emotion. She agrees it was a colossal mistake and she will take care of it on her own.
She packs just her papers and winter clothes and leaves in the middle of the night. Her father is furious and thinks she’s ungrateful. Henrique doesn’t tell him the truth.
Aline finds the Lady of the Letters address at the bus station. Three days later Arthur and Ana from the first book arrive and take her to their home.

Ahh como estou amando está série de livros... A cada história fico mais encantada. Foi bom ver tudo que o Henrique fez para conseguir o amor de Aline de volta.
