Matt Drake #10

The Lost Kingdom

Rate this book
The Lost Kingdom is the latest in the breathtaking Matt Drake series, packed with enough action to keep you reading long into the night.

In 1945 China's greatest treasure, the ancient fossilised remains of the Peking Man, disappeared, last known location: Singapore. At the same time a US submarine torpedoed and destroyed a Japanese sub, the Awa Maru, even though it was sailing as a hospital ship and carrying billions of dollars of gold and other strategic valuables.

Now, a secret mountain vault and the Smithsonian archives are being raided by a crazy Irish gang known as the 27 Club, working for a powerful global secret enemy. Ancient treasures are stolen, including the indecipherable Niven Tablets, once thought to show the way to a lost kingdom even greater than Atlantis.

Matt Drake and his team are beset on two fronts. Desperate, he races with Torsten Dahl and Alicia Myles to Japan as the deadly Yakuza organisation is hours away from executing Mai Kitano--a heroic, last-ditch rescue attempt their only chance.

With the quest for the Lost Kingdom underway, and the Chinese government being blackmailed for a cutting edge, all-empowering hacking device that could bring the civilised world to its knees, the entire SPEAR team, the Yakuza and the 27 Club finally stand ready to meet on the top floor of a wealthy hotel in Hong Kong in a battle that could bring the world to its knees.

The latest Matt Drake adventure and its overpowering finale guarantees you will lose sleep!

The Lost Kingdom (Matt Drake Book 10) - a review by Rosemary Kenny

*slight spoilers*
Missing artefacts, hidden tombs with supernatural and potentially deadly treasures and a global plot hatched by an evil conglomerate, are just some of the challenges facing Matt Drake and the SPEAR team, in David Leadbeater's
The Lost Kingdom, Book 10 in his excellent Matt Drake series of archaeological treasure-hunting, world-saving adventures.
And if those events don't whet your appetite enough, there's also a Kill Bill-type vendetta storyline, with MMA katana-wielding Japanese Ninja goddess, Mai Kitano, (aka Sprite) versus her former mentors, the deadly death-dealing Yakuza cult, The Clan. They've vowed to turn the SPEAR heroine into human sushi, as punishment for the so-called dishonour they claim she's brought to their gangster 'family.

Surely you won't want to miss the chance to see how events play out in the most thrilling story yet in the Matt Drake series, The Lost Kingdom?

Don't wait to fill your book shelves with these amazing all-action thriller books, by the inimitable David Leadbeater,(currently at 23 in total)...turn off your phone and cancel all your appointments for the next few weeks-they're THAT great, you won't be able to eat, drink, do or think about anything else - I speak from personal experience!

This was an engaging action/adventure story. Once I started, I wanted to read until finished without stopping. I couldn't do that. So, every night before bed, I read until I was too tired to go on. Finished in just a few nights.

I had not read any of the prior books in the series, but that didn't matter. I was engaged in the story from the start.

Romance novel disguised as a military thriller

The series has become paint by numbers. Continues to hit all the same beats. Way too much focus on the romantic lives of the characters.

Saving the World isn't easy.

The SPEAR team are not slackers. They work together so efficiently and have become a family. When they lose a team member, their heart breaks. But they also never lose focus of their ultimate goal.

Fight to the end

For an action filled book this is too notch. Full of suspense and fighting and heart breaking death not always the bad guys.

Matt Drake and the SPEAR team are back for the 10th book, again up against great odds and fighting for there lives! David Leadbeater again delivers a fast paced action story, with no let up for the team. This book starts straight after the events of book 9, with the team trying to track down Mai who has been abducted and trying to stop the next Pythian attempt to rule the world!! Callan Dudley is again on the rampage, this time aided by is brother Malachi and the 27-club. This series keeps getting better and is now available in audio format read by Nigel Patterson.

David does it again, another race against time for the SPEAR team against new and old foes. There is quite a bit of character development with their stories running alongside the main storyline. This time they are searching for a kidnapped team member and a lost civilisation that could be bigger than Atlantis. The first ending in a daring rescue and pitched battle in Japan leading the team on to Hong Kong for another fight to end all fights...maybe some big shocks in store but can't wait for Drake 11

Amazing!!

I chose 5 ***** because it is worth every star as always with David Leadbeater novels it leaves you aghast and that starts from the first page. If you've read Matt Drake and the SPEAR teams adventures from the beginning then it's good to catch up with them all before the true action really starts and then it never stops until the heart stopping moment when you're sat with your jaw fallen open at the shattering conclusion of one of the teams demise! I can't wait to see what happens next, hurry David!!

Wow, another fantastic and epic book!

I have read all of the series so far, and in fact read them several times. I do not know how David Leadbetter can continually write such fun reading books. The characters are so real, that you feel for their looses, and swell with their successes. I would like another of the Matt Drake, but Alicia Miles books are Aldo great. Thanks again for a great book..

Will Mu be revisited?

Drake 10 was very emotionally charged. We definitely got to the heart of some of the characters. Now for my question. Will the Spear team return to Mu? From my own research it sounds like Atlantis. They need something cool to explore. Another great Drake adventure. Can't wait for Drake 11!

Counting to Ten

Another thrill ride with the SPEAR team. They never quit. Maniacs are coming out of the woodwork. There are so many plots once again woven into the 10th book of this series. Looking forward to the next and the one after that.

Can't stop reading

Definitely a thrill a minute, action packed sequel. Possibly the best in the series so far. Surprisingly intelligent for an action piece and the characters will stay with you look great after you finish. Or until you pick up the next...
