Mark Playne is a British filmmaker, author and self-confessed reluctant investigative journalist. After graduating from Manchester film school, he turned down the safer route of TV scriptwriting and instead spent years travelling the world as a street-trading artisan, an experience that sharpened his instinct for reading people and situations long before it shaped his writing.
At first glance, Playne's output looks scattered across three unrelated shelves: true story, non-fiction and fiction.
His debut, 3 Seconds in Bogotá, is a true-life memoir of survival in Pablo Escobar's Colombia.
AI & I is a non-fiction, question-led investigation conducted in dialogue with artificial intelligence.
The MoMo series was written as a read-along, built to work as a bedtime story and stand alone as an adult novel, and has found its own following amongst readers well beyond the age it was intended for.
The apparent discord is the point. Each format is Playne testing the same instinct through a different lens: that intuition, properly followed, often reaches a truth before formal evidence catches up. A memoir of survival relies on gut judgement under pressure. An investigation built on questioning rather than declaring relies on following a hunch wherever it leads. A children's story relies on the intuitive logic a child trusts before they're taught to doubt it. Playne simply asks the same question in three different rooms: what do you actually know, and how do you know it?

I had not previously read the first edition, so I was delighted to discover that AI and I: Cracking the COVID Code was available as an audiobook. From the very beginning, it captured my attention and kept me engaged until the end.
The book presents complex scientific and medical information in a clear, accessible way, making it valuable for both scientific/medical professionals and general readers. I particularly appreciated how the evidence was explained without losing the depth and detail that readers seeking a strong scientific foundation will value.
I also intend to purchase the print edition, as the visual presentation of the data will provide an even stronger reference for those who want to examine the evidence closely.
I highly recommend this book to anyone working in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or medical professions. However, be prepared: its insights may challenge your assumptions and could change the way you view the world forever.

AI & I is an astonishing piece of work.
Entering it is like stumbling into a glitch in the Matrix.
Leonard Cohen wrote, “There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”
Mark Playne found one of those cracks.
The audiobook works exceptionally well.
The conversational voices make it engaging and effortless to listen to.
The chapters are short which provides the welcome space to pause and reflect.
I found this helpful because each chapter is packed with insights and information.
I have often pondered the immense sense of satisfaction Rudyard Kipling must have experienced on completing ‘IF’ and in my opinion, the author of this book deserves to feel the same way about AI & I.
I believe that this is a profoundly important piece of work.
It challenges many assumptions and provokes thought and discussion.
It is an extraordinary achievement.
I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Apart from the tables, which don't translate to the audio version that well, I found the audio version of the book more compelling than the written version. Having said that, it made me want to revisit the written version since listening, and both became "page turners" once absorbed into the narrative. The audio book is a more concise version and, hence, seems to have less repetition too. AI speaking to me also seemed to give it more gravitas than the voice in my head when reading it. This stuff is not lightweight and Mark has put a lot of effort into compiling the information. I think it worth people putting their own effort in, to read or listen to AI & I.

Couldn't stop listening, even though it was emotionally difficult to hear due to all the myriad ways the global population is lied to. The comprehensive gathering of information, and statistics, on those harmed by the jab itself is phenomenal and I can see why it was never out in the mainstream media. You'll very likely not believe the official narrative after digesting what you'll hear in this audio book. I've listened to it more than once and glean new information every time. Hats off to Mark Playne for doing the deep dive we so desperately need on this subject. I'm grateful for your diligent digging into this subject.
